It had been a week since Qin Yeling fainted last time.
Because he had to handle company matters, Qin Yeling hadn’t been at school all week.
Ling An attended classes obediently, learning the knowledge of this world.
He found the knowledge of this world quite interesting, just a bit simple, nothing challenging.
He hadn’t seen Qin Yeling for a week and wondered if he’d finished being busy.
He had the system locate Qin Yeling’s position to see where he was.
The system interface loaded for a while, then displayed a dynamic map.
The blue marker was his current location, right at the school.
The red marker was the male lead’s position, which at the moment seemed to be on the road, and it was changing rapidly.
Ling An took one look and thought, well, there it is, the trouble that comes with the male lead’s halo has come knocking. He hadn’t expected that even abroad, trouble would still come calling as usual.
But the timing was perfect, he’d been wondering what excuse to use to show his face.
Today, he’d play the hero saving the beauty.
Ignoring the teacher mid-lecture, Ling An rushed straight out the door.
A couple of days ago, he’d found Sword Flight too draining on Spiritual Power, so he had the system order him a motorcycle.
He’d let the system pick whatever after all, with his Spiritual Power boost, whether it was a bicycle or a motorcycle, the speed would be the same.
As for why he bought a motorcycle, it was mainly because it looked cool, for show.
He hopped on the bike, twisted the throttle, and with his Spiritual Power boost, Ling An shot off in an instant.
Leaving behind an afterimage at the spot, along with wave after wave of startled cries.
Following the route provided by the system, Ling An arrived early at a spot on Qin Yeling’s inevitable path and waited quietly.
After waiting about ten minutes, Qin Yeling heard gunshots in the distance.
Gun control in Country M was lax practically everyone had a gun, so Ling An wasn’t particularly surprised that they were armed.
A black car burst out of an alley, its rear tire blown through by the earlier gunfire. Out of control, it slammed into a wall.
Qin Yeling in the driver’s seat was slammed against the wheel, head bleeding.
Blood flowed into his eyes, blurring one of them. Qin Yeling had no time to wipe it away, he pushed open the door and rushed out.
The wrecked, out-of-control car happened to block the alley entrance, buying him a little time to escape.
He pushed open the car door and stumbled out, clutching his abdomen, his delicate little face deathly pale, the blood streaming from his head covering half his face.
Qin Yeling gritted his teeth and pressed on with difficulty.
Even Ling An, watching this scene, couldn’t help but feel a sharp pang of sympathy.
A motorcycle roared toward him, and Qin Yeling’s heart went cold with despair.
It’s over. He hadn’t expected them to have so many people. He’d overestimated family ties. This time, it was his own carelessness.
The motorcycle drove straight at him. Qin Yeling instinctively closed his eyes, he couldn’t escape.
But the pain never came. The screech of brakes brought a gust of hot wind slapping against his face, making him open his eyes.
The moment he opened them, a helmet was pulled straight down over his head.
With just that, what else was there for Qin Yeling not to understand? This person had come to save him.
Before the person could even speak, Qin Yeling endured the pain and got on the bike.
Ling An twisted the throttle and drove off. The next second, the car that had been blocking the alley was rammed and sent flying, landing right where Qin Yeling had just been standing.
Qin Yeling, looking back and seeing this, turned even paler.
It had been that close, he’d almost been crushed to death.
Noticing Qin Yeling’s dazed state, Ling An said gently:
“Don’t hold onto anything, or you’ll fall off. Hold onto me.”
After finishing speaking, Ling An freed one hand, grabbed Qin Yeling’s hand, and placed it on his waist.
Qin Yeling didn’t feel embarrassed at all, this person was stating facts. He had no choice but to hold on; the man was driving really fast.
He didn’t know what brand of motorcycle it was, but it could go this fast, the two cars behind couldn’t even catch up.
The pursuers behind were furious. They had almost succeeded in capturing the target alive, only to have him snatched away by someone else.
“How is that motorcycle going so fast up ahead? Damn it, shoot them!”
A man driving one of the cars roared.
The man in the passenger seat replied with a troubled, hesitant expression: “Boss, if the target dies, we lose half the money. We’ve already lost three men, if the higher-ups ask about it later, it’ll be hard to explain.”
Hearing this, the man flew into a rage: “Are you a pig? Of course I know we lose half, but can’t you see they’re getting away? If they escape, we get nothing. Why aren’t you shooting yet? Are you the boss, or am I?”
“Tell them no need to keep anyone alive just shoot, or we’ll end up with nothing.”
With that, the man beside him no longer hesitated and gave the order into the walkie-talkie.
He leaned out directly and opened fire on Ling An and Qin Yeling ahead.
The people in the other car received the message and shot at them as well.
With the system’s cheat-like targeting callouts, Ling An dodged every shot with precision. But occasionally a stray bullet got through, and Ling An caught them all with Spiritual Power.
But this couldn’t go on his Spiritual Power was depleting too fast. If this continued, both of them would be done for.
The system suddenly spoke up:
Host, 600 meters ahead, turn left and there’s a dead-end alley. The system will hold onto a wisp of Spiritual Energy for you, take the male lead and jump over.
Hearing the system’s prompt, Ling An twisted the throttle and sped up again.
As he approached the alley, a bullet shot straight through Ling An’s rear wheel.
The motorcycle immediately began to wobble.
Ling An decisively grabbed Qin Yeling and jumped off the bike.
Then, with a flick of his hand, he shot a wisp of Spiritual Power into the fuel tank, it would explode the moment they caught up.
Qin Yeling was so startled by Ling An’s jump that he let out a cry.
A madman, this man was a madman. Jumping off a bike at such a high speed. Who on earth sent him?
Seeing Qin Yeling frightened, Ling An pressed his head into his own chest.
Using Spiritual Power to protect Qin Yeling, Ling An had no Spiritual Power left to spare.
Fortunately, his current body had been nourished by Spiritual Power and was much stronger now, he could withstand the minor injuries from jumping off the bike.
The two of them rolled over and over in each other’s arms before finally coming to a stop. Ling An was instantly covered in wounds.
Thankfully, they didn’t affect his mobility.
At the end of the dead-end alley stood a three-meter-high wall. The system released the reserved wisp of Spiritual Energy, and Ling An used it to vault over the wall with Qin Yeling in tow.
Upon landing, Ling An’s Spiritual Power was completely exhausted. Dizzy and lightheaded, he collapsed, and even twisted his ankle.
He and Qin Yeling supported each other as they walked out of the alley.
An explosion sounded from the other side of the alley. Only after confirming those men were dead did Ling An secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
He was still too weak, just a few people had pushed him to this state.
Neither of them spoke the whole way. Qin Yeling made a call from a phone booth by the roadside, and the Qin family arrived quickly. The two of them were helped into the car.
Only after getting in the car did Qin Yeling take off his helmet, letting out a long breath. It took him a long while to find his voice again.
“Thank you for saving me. What do you want?”
A very direct question.
Ling An leaned his head against the car seat, wanting to say “I want you,” but he didn’t have a shred of strength left.
The depletion of Spiritual Power did great damage to this body, and the pain from jumping off the vehicle just now began to surface now that he’d relaxed. It hurt so much he let out a cold grunt.
Hearing the grunt, Qin Yeling assumed he was dissatisfied with the offer.
But Ling An didn’t want to owe too many favors. Besides, this man had appeared at too convenient a moment, he couldn’t help but be suspicious.
“You can make three requests. As long as our Qin family can manage it, I’ll help you with anything.”
The weight of those words would prove considerable once the male lead rose to prominence later on.
But Ling An simply turned his head to the other side, his helmet knocking against the car window with a crisp thud.
