“I didn’t mean to push you into the zombie swarm back then. I actually wanted to save you, but someone pushed me from behind, and I accidentally knocked you in.” Su Mu looked at Ling Wei while talking absolute nonsense, completely ignoring Ling Wei’s look of disdain. No matter what, she didn’t want to carry this particular blame.
“Don’t disbelieve me. I had already liked you for a long time then; how could I possibly kill the goddess I’d had a crush on for years? Later, when I saw you return, even though I knew you misunderstood me, I was still very happy.”
“But then you actually fell for that scumbag Jiang Mingkai. Don’t you know he only approached you because he suspected your abnormal power?”
“Seeing you gradually grow fond of him made me incredibly jealous, but I didn’t dare express my love. In the end, I thought, since the one you love isn’t me, then hating me is fine too. So I started targeting you and intentionally got close to Jiang Mingkai, just to let you see his wolfish ambitions.” As she spoke, Su Mu appropriately displayed a bit of disappointment and obsession. Holy crap, she thought, thinking about my wife liking some other trashy brat—even I’m starting to believe it.
“Sometimes I think you’re really stupid. He made it so obvious; why couldn’t you see it?” Su Mu let out a sneer, as if she really were mocking Ling Wei for her poor judgment.
The System stood there “eye-widening-dog-staring” (dumbfounded) at Su Mu’s tall tales. If it didn’t know the truth, it would have almost believed her.
As Su Mu rambled and the System stared, Ling Wei’s heart wasn’t entirely unmoved. Since she was currently at a disadvantage, Su Mu had no reason to coax and deceive her like this. However, listening to these words, Ling Wei looked at Su Mu with complex eyes.
“Ding… Female Lead’s favorability +4. Current: -90.”
As they talked, half an hour passed. Just as the favorability rose, Jiang Mingkai walked in with a slightly dazed expression. This scene was a bit different from the “tearing each other apart” scenario he had imagined.
Su Mu didn’t say anything when Jiang Mingkai entered. She simply stepped forward, picked Ling Wei up, and walked out, not wanting Ling Wei to have any interaction with him—portraying the behavior of a jealous person to the extreme.
Ling Wei didn’t struggle while being carried. Since she planned to run away later anyway, she couldn’t expose herself prematurely, so she suppressed her aura.
Near the door, Su Mu lowered her voice and whispered to Ling Wei: “After I put you in the car, I’ll take care of the driver for you. I believe you can handle the few people in the back.”
Fearing they would be overheard, Su Mu leaned close to Ling Wei’s ear. Like a lover’s whisper, Ling Wei only felt the hot breath hitting her ear, feeling a strange sense of familiarity.
Seeing Ling Wei’s awkward expression, Su Mu chuckled.
Reaching the car, Su Mu set Ling Wei down. Under everyone’s confused gazes, she went to the passenger seat. Once they drove out of the base’s surveillance range, Su Mu drew a dagger from her waist, coated it with a layer of water element, and killed the nearby ability user by surprise. She stopped the car and urged Ling Wei to run quickly.
However, as soon as Ling Wei ran out, a large group of ability users surrounded her and immediately released their powers. Looking at this formation, Ling Wei gave a mocking smile. I’m so stupid, I almost believed that woman again.
Ling Wei looked at these partners she had once lived with day and night, now pointing their blades at her. Her eyes were cold and pained. The people she protected… in the end, they disregarded all affection just because of her zombie status.
Ling Wei closed her eyes, but what she felt was a wave of warmth. Seeing Su Mu blocking the way and hugging her, Ling Wei’s eyes grew complicated. Just as the protective shield Su Mu opened shattered, Su Mu kissed Ling Wei’s lips and smiled softly: “Believe me, I love you.”
“Ding… Female Lead’s favorability +70. Current: -20.”
“Ding… Time reversal was successful.”
“Ding… A one-time protective shield is given as a gift.”
Su Mu opened her eyes, her consciousness still blurry. She found her wife sleeping next to her, so she simply reached out, pulled her into her arms, and thought about things with her eyes closed.
Originally, Su Mu could have helped Ling Wei avoid the rebirth, but thinking that her wife’s favorability was nearly at a maximum negative value, and fearing that being caught changing the main plot would be troublesome, she let Ling Wei go through the original plot. She also took the opportunity to brush up some favorability so she wouldn’t have to look at Ling Wei’s icy eyes and lose control. Thinking of Ling Wei’s initial eyes full of hate and coldness, a surge of tyranny rose in Su Mu’s heart; she wanted to keep a firm eye on Ling Wei so that Ling Wei only had her around. Su Mu herself didn’t even notice the change in her own state of mind.
It was the System that detected Su Mu’s inner fluctuations. It forcibly knocked Su Mu unconscious and “poured several bottles of chrysanthemum tea” (to calm her down) to stop the inner riot. Seeing Su Mu’s possessiveness toward Ling Wei so strong in just the second world, the System wiped a bead of sweat for the Female Lead’s future.
The next day, Su Mu woke up and saw Ling Wei sleeping in her arms. Her mood was instantly excellent. She stroked Ling Wei’s head, let go, and went out.
Feeling that Su Mu’s presence was gone from the room, Ling Wei’s mood was extremely subtle. Comparing Su Mu’s current attitude to her actions in the previous life, her favorability fluctuated so much the System’s “newly bought watch from last year” almost exploded.
System: As they say, a woman’s heart is a needle at the bottom of the sea; when you touch it, you get pricked.
Over the next few days, Ling Wei acted normally—neither as enthusiastic as before nor as cold as before the rebirth. Su Mu was meticulous toward her, practically pampering her to the heavens and agreeing to everything.
Ling Wei had no complaints about this, but she felt a special torment every night when sleeping. Because Su Mu had the System’s “cheat,” she had awakened her skills early. Every night, under the guise of “protection,” she committed the act of “eating tofu” (groping). Even though she knew Ling Wei was awake, Su Mu would still sneak kisses and hugs, or “accidentally” touch her. Seeing Ling Wei’s conflicted expression, Su Mu felt her mischievous streak couldn’t be stopped.
However, this behavior also made Ling Wei believe Su Mu’s words from the previous life about liking her. Yet, her favorability toward Su Mu never turned positive. As the moment when the original host pushed the Female Lead into the zombies drew closer, Ling Wei’s temperament became unpredictable, fearing the same thing from the previous life would happen again.
Today, the zombies were violent and gradually gathered toward Ling Wei. Su Mu knew this was the World Power trying to drive the plot forward. Su Mu shielded Ling Wei even tighter; she would not let the “Heavenly Dao” have its way.
But even with a hundred precautions, there is one omission. Without Su Mu acting as the villain, the World Power arranged for another person to push Ling Wei to the ground while Su Mu wasn’t paying attention, hoping to use her to buy time to escape.
“System, what use do I have for you?!” Su Mu saw the zombies swarming toward Ling Wei and wanted to use the protective shield from the System to guard her, but this crappy System actually said props are useless on the Center of the World.
In her desperation, Su Mu used the protective shield on herself and lunged onto Ling Wei—hand over hand, leg over leg—completely covering her. The shield opened around Su Mu happened to protect Ling Wei within it.
“Weiwei, believe me, don’t be afraid.” Su Mu calculated the shield’s endurance and found it could hold for a while. Seeing Ling Wei’s pale face, she spoke to comfort her.
After securing Ling Wei, Su Mu directly triggered the shield to self-destruct. The air current blew away the zombies surrounding them. Taking this chance, Su Mu insta-killed them with one move, but due to energy exhaustion, she collapsed unconscious on top of Ling Wei.
Although Ling Wei wasn’t bitten, as the Center of the World, she still gained an ability. Seeing Su Mu collapsed in her arms and thinking of the various things Su Mu might do in the future, lightning gathered in her palm as she slowly approached Su Mu.
