By the time Suxin arrived at this point in the timeline, the husband and wife were already in a state of open hostility.
Her time rewind had caused a minor side effect, but unexpectedly, it had eased the relationship between the male and female leads considerably.
Another two days passed in the blink of an eye.
“Butler, the Young Master wants to see you.”
Shen Dongjun certainly lived up to his reputation as a workaholic. As soon as the side effects disappeared and he stopped feeling dizzy, he went straight to the study to deal with work.
“Young Master.”
At the sound of that voice, Shen Dongjun’s back tensed involuntarily.
He said nothing, merely scrutinizing Suxin with his sharp gaze.
Suxin looked back at him in confusion.
The two of them stared at each other for quite some time. Suxin did not feel tired, but Shen Dongjun was the first to lose his composure.
He coughed, secretly clenched his fists, and asked coldly, “Who exactly are you?”
Suxin smiled. “Young Master, what are you talking about?”
For once, Shen Dongjun hesitated slightly. He was not certain whether the scene he had seen had truly happened before his eyes or had been a hallucination brought on by those strange dizzy spells over the past dozen or so days.
But he would never show it.
He merely leaned forward and stared fixedly at Suxin. “I saw something appear out of thin air in your hand.”
After that came the strange sense of déjà vu and the bizarre, fantastical world.
It had completely overturned everything he had understood for more than twenty years!
Suxin was surprised. She examined him carefully with an entirely new look in her eyes.
She knew that Shen Dongjun’s soul perception was very high, but she had not expected him to remember the scenes from the time rewind.
After thinking for a moment, she asked, “Do you want me to make up an explanation, or should I erase this part of your memory directly?”
Shen Dongjun: “?”
He wanted to call the police immediately.
Suxin said, “If you call the police, they’ll think you’re insane.”
Shen Dongjun withdrew the hand he had placed over the screen, suppressed the suspicion and alarm in his heart, and stared coldly at her.
“Don’t be nervous.” Suxin spread her hands. “I didn’t deliberately listen to your thoughts. I don’t usually like doing that, either. I have no ill intentions.”
“I come from a wondrous place, and my mission is to serve as the butler of the Shen Residence. Not only will I not harm you, I’ll also protect your safety.” Oh, and your love, too.
Barbara’s mouth had already fallen open in shock. Although it was a newcomer and did not have much experience, it had never heard of a Host from the Quick Transmigration Bureau revealing their identity right at the start.
But—but—
Shen Dongjun did not believe her. “Is that the explanation you came up with?”
“That part wasn’t made up,” Suxin said. “What I just said was the truth.”
She gave him a sincere smile. “You’re the first person I’ve served in this job, and I like you both very much.”
Shen Dongjun said coldly, “I don’t believe you.”
Suxin thought for a second, then took out her shabby little clock.
This time, she did not hide it from him at all. Shen Dongjun’s eyelid twitched violently. “What are you going to do?”
Suxin answered very cooperatively, “Don’t you already know? Since you refuse to cooperate, I can only erase this part of your memory again…”
“No need!”
Shen Dongjun’s face turned livid. For the first time, he experienced such utter helplessness.
Throughout his life, no matter how powerful his opponents were, he had never been afraid or hesitant.
But the woman in front of him had completely surpassed his understanding!
How was he supposed to deal with an opponent who was strange, powerful, beyond his comprehension, and utterly unreasonable?
At the slightest disagreement, she could directly erase his memory. Forget fighting her—he did not even have the opportunity to fight!
He forcefully suppressed the anger in his heart and said in a deep voice, “What do you want? Money, status, power… I can do my best to satisfy you.”
Suxin looked at him strangely. “What would I want those things for?”
Shen Dongjun said, “If you don’t want those things, why did you come to the Shen family? Those are the only things I can give you.”
Suxin replied, “Didn’t I already say so? I came to be your butler!”
The system watched this exchange with its heart in its throat. In the end, it watched as the male lead’s face shifted from green to white while he ordered the Host to leave. Anyone with eyes could see how stifled he was.
It looked at her with reverence and asked cautiously, “Host, it looks like we’ve fallen out with the male lead. What are we going to do?”
Suxin said, “What do you mean, what are we going to do?”
“He knows there’s something wrong with your identity. What if he targets you and makes things difficult for you in the future…” Barbara’s voice grew quieter and quieter, and it realized the problem itself.
That was true. How exactly was the male lead supposed to make things difficult for the Host?
Barbara fell silent. It seemed they did not need to worry too much, after all?
The atmosphere at dinner that evening was very strange.
Shen Dongjun and Han Qingzi sat at the dining table, while Suxin stood not far away, thinking about where to go and have fun after work.
This was perfectly normal. The servants did not dine together with their masters.
Shen Dongjun had long been accustomed to this arrangement, but he appeared somewhat restless.
A mysterious existence that might not even be human had come to his house to work as the butler—and seemed to be enjoying it immensely. Just thinking about it was terrifying.
He kept zoning out, and even Han Qingzi noticed.
Thinking that he was feeling unwell, Han Qingzi hurriedly asked him about it.
Zhu Yin looked over as well.
Shen Dongjun met her gaze, then looked away and said to Han Qingzi, “From now on, stay away from that butler.”
He had said even harsher things before. If that thing truly wanted to do something to him, he had no idea how he could resist. Since that was the case, what was there left to fear?
Han Qingzi disagreed. “You seem to have a deep misunderstanding of Zhu Yin.”
Aunt Xu, standing on the other side, agreed wholeheartedly. What a wonderful girl Butler Zhu Yin was.
For the past half a month, she had watched Zhu Yin take great pains over the Young Master’s illness. If not for the diet she had arranged, the Young Master’s dizziness probably would not have disappeared so quickly.
Shen Dongjun was an exceptionally perceptive person. He sensed that the people around him did not agree with him.
As expected, it was something skilled at bewitching people’s hearts.
He did not argue.
The next day, he secretly went to visit an eminent monk who was very famous in their circle and was said to be highly effective.
The eminent monk welcomed him warmly. After learning why he had come and listening to his detailed account, he gently advised him to believe in science and not work too hard.
Shen Dongjun: “…”
With a very foul expression, he returned home.
When he arrived, he saw the butler racing across the lawn with the family’s golden retriever. The setting sun gilded her figure with a layer of golden light, and she wore a smile that looked none too intelligent.
He could not help wondering: Did someone like this really have some ulterior motive for coming to the Shen family?
He recalled calling his grandfather earlier to inquire about Zhu Yin’s origins. Her identity had revealed not the slightest problem. Fortunately, he had anticipated that, so he was not disappointed.
He decided to watch and wait.
But while he could afford to wait, someone else could not.
Shen Xin asked Zhu Yin to meet him.
When Zhu Yin saw the caller’s name, she thought for a moment, then agreed.
She openly asked Shen Dongjun for leave and went to the meeting on time.
“Shen Xin?” Shen Dongjun did not believe for a moment that there was any connection between them.
Could that idiot really have been able to summon someone like Zhu Yin?
Even so, he sent someone to follow her, wanting to see what Shen Xin was planning.
