Yu Yan froze for a moment, his mind rapidly sorting through the information before finally figuring out which time Shu Ran meant by “secretly kissing” her.
He rubbed the tip of his nose. “That time… I thought you were already awake.”
He hadn’t expected that Shu Ran had actually been asleep—and sleeping so deeply that even after all that kissing, she still hadn’t woken up.
Shu Ran puffed out her cheeks.
She had actually guessed right!
“No, I’m going to get revenge!”
With that, Shu Ran grabbed Yu Yan by the arm, bit down on the man’s thin lips, and even rubbed them with her teeth.
She successfully left a ring of teeth marks around his lips.
The marks circled the outside of his lips, looking inexplicably hilarious.
【Pfft…】
The System burst out laughing.
Fortunately, it still remembered that the person it was laughing at was none other than the dignified Supreme God, so it quickly forced its laughter back down.
Unfortunately, suppressing it so hard nearly gave it an internal injury.
Shu Ran, however, was extremely pleased with her handiwork. She admired it several times as though she were appreciating a painting, then finally sat back down under Yu Yan’s somewhat dazed gaze.
“Now we’re even.”
Yu Yan raised a hand and touched the spot she had just bitten. It was burning and tingling with numbness, and it was obvious that the teeth marks weren’t shallow.
If he went out in public with them like this, he would definitely be laughed to death.
But when he saw Shu Ran happily humming to herself, he suddenly didn’t want to cover them up.
Forget it. It wasn’t like he would see anyone anyway. Let it be.
As long as she liked it, what was there to be embarrassed about?
……
After several more days of broadcasting throughout the entire city and sending people to launch sneak attacks on Yu Yan’s team without success, Ren Hao could only reluctantly prepare to leave.
However, ever since entering H City, he had kept his men busy collecting large quantities of supplies. So even though they hadn’t managed to get any weapons, they weren’t exactly leaving empty-handed.
Thinking of this, Ren Hao had someone call Qiao Lingling over.
“How much space do you have left?”
Qiao Lingling had deliberately checked before coming over, so she quickly answered, “Less than half.”
Ren Hao narrowed his eyes.
What a pity. He hadn’t managed to fill it completely.
He lit a cigarette and waved toward the outside.
“Go put everything they’ve prepared into your space, including any guns and ammunition they can’t take with them. Then come back and ride with me.”
Qiao Lingling was quite pleased that she could ride in the same vehicle as Ren Hao. She quickly agreed and went outside to collect the supplies.
Seeing the ordinary people outside the vehicle, who could only do manual labor because they had no abilities, Qiao Lingling disdainfully and disgustedly moved to the side.
She carefully avoided touching them as she stored the supplies inside the jade pendant.
Fortunately, she was different from these people. She was a precious space ability user and didn’t have to do this kind of physical labor.
Otherwise, she would have been the one doing all these dirty, exhausting jobs.
Qiao Lingling impatiently stored away the last box of ammunition before turning around and returning to Ren Hao’s RV.
Inside, Ren Hao was studying a map. With nothing else to do, Qiao Lingling decided to secretly take some snacks out of her jade pendant.
But the moment she sent her consciousness inside, she froze completely.
She checked several more times, but the result remained the same. In the end, she collapsed into her seat.
“How is this possible? How could this happen…?”
Why was there not a single thing left inside her jade pendant?!
“There must be some mistake. There has to be!”
Ren Hao was already suppressing a great deal of anger, and with Qiao Lingling muttering nonsense beside him nonstop, he couldn’t help but glance at her and sneer.
“If you’re too idle, get out and go work. Stop bothering me here!”
Qiao Lingling trembled all over, but she didn’t dare say a word.
She wasn’t stupid. There was no way she could let Ren Hao know that something had happened to her space and that all the supplies inside had disappeared.
If those supplies still hadn’t returned by the time they got back to the base, then she…would have to start preparing to run.
……
Meanwhile, after confirming that Ren Hao and his people would be leaving that day, Yu Yan and Shu Ran returned to where their team had camped.
While deciding where to go next, they carefully timed the transfer of the supplies inside the jade pendant.
Once everything had been moved into the master jade pendant, Shu Ran’s fox-like eyes immediately lit up.
So many things! So much food!
There were actually five times as much as everything she had collected before!
Shu Ran drooled as she admired the supplies for quite a while before reluctantly looking toward Yu Yan.
“Everything’s been transferred over.”
As she spoke, she casually pulled a sniper rifle out of the jade pendant.
“It’s just that this gun is a little strange. It seems to be powered by zombie crystal cores.”
With just one glance, Yu Yan recognized where the gun came from. In a rather good mood, he ran a hand over the stock.
“This is the crystal-core gun developed by A Base, the largest base in Z Country. Its power is tremendous, and it’s extremely difficult to manufacture. When they sell it publicly, the minimum price is 10,000 high-level crystal cores. I didn’t expect Ren Hao to have brought one with him this time.”
Not only had he brought it with him, but he had even put the gun inside Qiao Lingling’s space.
And then Shu Ran had transferred it over along with all the supplies.
Just imagining the expression on Ren Hao’s face when he found out made the corners of Yu Yan’s lips curl upward.
He would probably cough up blood on the spot.
After taking a brief look through their newly acquired supplies, the group of more than 20 people finally arrived at their destination beneath the glow of the setting sun.
A resort hotel built halfway up a mountain.
The hotel covered a huge area, with three main buildings and two rows of detached villas. There were even mountain streams and artificial lakes within the grounds.
Most importantly, it had been renovated shortly before the apocalypse, so the interior was still very well preserved. With a little cleaning and repair, it would basically be ready to live in.
After everyone had discussed and studied their options, they all agreed that this was the best place to establish their base.
It took everyone a full ten days just to clean up one of the buildings.
Although they were somewhat exhausted, the moment they thought about how they were cleaning up territory that belonged to them, all their complaints disappeared.
One day, Old Zhang was working with several team members to repair the walls in preparation for the next wave of zombies.
But on the only asphalt road leading to the resort hotel, a dense mass of figures suddenly appeared.
At first, Old Zhang thought a horde of zombies had arrived. He hurriedly grabbed a weapon, but after raising his rifle, he spotted several normal people through the scope.
If they were normal people, that meant they weren’t zombies.
He immediately sent people over to block the group on the road, then used the walkie-talkie to report the situation to Yu Yan.
After receiving the message, Yu Yan wasn’t surprised in the slightest. He merely glanced outside and raised an eyebrow.
“They got here pretty quickly.”
That’s right. These people had all been brought here by Yu Yan.
Among them were even various technical personnel whom he had lured over with food.
These people had originally lived at Jiaoyang Base, but because the skills they possessed were of little use in the apocalypse, most of them had been thrown into the slums and left to fend for themselves.
Yet the people who were ignored at Jiaoyang Base were scarce and valuable talents to Yu Yan.
He only hoped that more people like them would come.
Yu Yan glanced at Shu Ran, who was still sleeping soundly, then carefully controlled his movements as he left the bedroom.
Only after that did he pick up the walkie-talkie and speak, “These people are new recruits I brought in. Take them to the empty building on the left and check them over. As long as they haven’t been injured by zombies, keep them all.”
“So it was you who brought them here, Boss! I thought zombies were coming just now. I nearly opened fire. So, Boss, next time you’re doing something like this, could you give your brothers a heads-up first…?”
Yu Yan showed not the slightest bit of guilt.
“I didn’t expect them to get here so quickly either. I’ll try to next time.”
Yu Yan soon arrived at the building where the newcomers were being settled.
But the moment he pushed open the door, he heard a woman’s heart-wrenching cries.
“Don’t take my daughter! Please, I’m begging you, don’t take her! She’s only three! She’s only three years old!”
Yu Yan frowned slightly and strode inside.
“What’s going on?”
Old Zhang, who was in the middle of arguing with a couple, immediately looked as though he had seen his savior.
“Boss, you finally came! It’s about a little girl.”
He pointed toward a small girl standing not far away. She was filthy but not thin, and Old Zhang looked away with some reluctance.
“Her hand was grabbed by a zombie.”
Yu Yan followed Old Zhang’s gaze and looked at the little girl as well.
The tiny girl was clutching her father’s pants tightly, staring blankly at everyone in the room. She seemed not to understand what everyone was talking about.
But soon, the girl’s father stepped in front of her, blocking Yu Yan’s view. His expression was filled with pain as he walked forward.
“Young Master Yu, you may not remember me anymore, but I still want to borrow the connection between us.”
“I was one of your mother’s assistants before she passed away. My name is Dong Zizhuo. I brought my wife and child here today because I wanted to seek refuge with you, but…”
Dong Zizhuo lifted his daughter into his arms.
“My child’s life is my life. I’ve decided to leave with her.”
His wife hurried over when she heard this.
“We’ll leave together, all three of us.”
Yu Yan didn’t stop them. He merely looked at the family with some regret.
Anyone who had once been able to work as an assistant by his mother’s side must have been highly capable.
It was just a pity.
Dong Zizhuo and his family hurried toward the door. Just as they were about to open it, however, the tightly closed door was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
Shu Ran appeared behind it, her hair sticking up in every direction as she curiously poked her head inside.
“What happened?”
