Luther’s POV
“The Echo has released its Phantoms.”
The words escaped my mouth before I even realized it.
James and Ariel immediately turned toward me.
“Phantoms?”
“They’re the creatures born inside an Echo.”
“If we don’t destroy the Echo…”
“They’ll keep pouring out.”
Before anyone could ask another question
KRRRRAAAKKK!!
The earth outside split apart.
A massive crack tore through the street, stretching farther than the eye could see.
A chilling silence followed.
Then…
Hundreds of crimson eyes slowly emerged from the darkness below.
One after another.
Pale gray hands gripped the edges of the fissure.
Then another.
Then dozens.
Soon…
Hundreds of small figures began climbing onto the streets.
James swallowed.
“…How are we supposed to fight that many?”
I stared at the creatures.
“…Goblins.”
“What?”
“They’re Goblins.”
“They’re only dangerous because they hunt in groups.”
“Since this is only a C-Rank Echo…”
“They’re probably low-class Goblins.”
James let out a relieved sigh.
“‘Only’ Goblins? There are hundreds of them!”
I ignored him.
“If the system works the same way it did in the game…”
I looked at both of them.
“Check your Status.”
“You should’ve awakened a power.”
Both of them immediately focused on the floating blue window.
Ariel gasped first.
“I have one!”
“What is it?”
She smiled.
“It’s called…”
Sky Sovereign
“A bird-type ability?”
I asked.
She nodded excitedly.
“It says I can manipulate wind, create spectral wings, and my vision is greatly enhanced.”
James laughed.
“That’s actually awesome.”
He looked back at his own Status Window.
“…Mine says…”
Titan
“Your body’s strength, durability, and size increase with every battle.”
James grinned.
He clenched his fist.
“I get to punch things?”
I smiled.
“Looks like it.”
James cracked his knuckles.
“Perfect.”
Then…
They both looked at me.
“So…”
“What did you get?”
My smile disappeared.
Slowly…
I looked at my own Status Window once more.
STATUS÷
[Name: Luther Lark]
[Rank: D]
[Power: None]
[Title: None Obtained]
“…Nothing.”
The room fell silent.
Outside…
The Goblins continued crawling from the fissure.
And for the first time…
I realized something terrifying.
The person who understood Genesis better than anyone…
Was the only one without a power.
