Father Shen gripped a kitchen cleaver in his hand.

Mother Shen stood tightly beside her husband as they listened to the demonic beasts roaring outside and the loud bangs of the iron gate being violently struck.

“The gate won’t hold much longer. We’ve already pushed all the heavy furniture against it, but those things are too strong. At most, it’ll take another hour before they break through and get inside.”Full novel: **Rebirth: Counterattack of the Apocalypse** — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Although holding a cleaver, Father Shen remained relatively calm.

“When those things break in, I’ll hold them off. You use that chance to run outside and head straight for the police station.”

“No.”

Mother Shen’s tears flowed freely.

“These man-eating monsters are everywhere. Where can I possibly run? I’m staying here with you.”

Father Shen sighed and patted her shoulder.

He knew his wife, a weak woman, could never make it to the police station alone. Besides, even if she did, what then? The police station was probably deserted as well.

“It doesn’t matter if we die. I just don’t know how our Qian’er is doing. She’s only twenty years old.”

At the thought of their daughter far away from home, Mother Shen broke down in tears.

“She’ll be fine.”

Even Father Shen lacked confidence in his own words of comfort.

Meanwhile, Shen Biqian had already driven into Y City.

For some reason, her heart felt restless and uneasy.

Wanting to get home as quickly as possible, she drove at top speed the entire way.

Whenever they encountered demonic beasts, Su Jianmo and Li Li—the girl formerly known as Sister Li—would clear the path with their abilities.

“Shen Biqian, stop! There’s a beast tide ahead with at least twenty monsters. Can’t we take another route?”

Seeing no sign of her slowing down, Su Jianmo hurriedly asked.

“No. This is the shortest route.”

Shen Biqian slammed the accelerator to the floor.

“Su Jianmo, Li Li, and you three pretending to be dead in the back—get up! If any beast hits the vehicle, beat it to death!”

Su Jianmo sighed.

Li Li, on the other hand, looked thrilled.

“Now that’s what I call guts! I like your style!”

“Get out of the way!”

A young man named Xia Sisong shouted.

The group fighting the demonic beasts quickly dodged aside as a blue SUV charged toward them like a runaway missile.

The vehicle plowed through several monsters on its way, sending three or four flying.

“Damn! That’s insane!”

Looking through the window at the injured survivors outside, Shen Biqian frowned slightly.

Yet she had no intention of stopping.

Her heart was growing more anxious by the second.

She had a terrible feeling that something had happened to her parents.

Normally she would stop to save people, but right now she simply didn’t have the time.

Watching the SUV continue farther and farther away, Xia Sisong felt as though a bucket of cold water had been dumped over him.

His brief hope vanished.

If those people refused to help them, they would eventually become food for the beasts.

Still unwilling to give up, he gritted his teeth.

“Forget it. Let’s make one last stand. No matter what, we have to fight our way out of this beast tide!”

Shen Biqian tightened her grip on the steering wheel.

Finally, she cursed under her breath.

Then she spun the vehicle around in a sharp turn.

Even if she had her own worries, she simply couldn’t watch five people die when she had the ability to save them.

“Li Li, squeeze together with the others and make room for them!”

“Li Li, you’re responsible for pulling them aboard. The three of you cover her!”

Li Li pouted unhappily.

“Why save them?”

One glance from Shen Biqian immediately shut her up.

“Fine, fine. You’re just too kind. I got it. I’ll pull them aboard.”

Xia Sisong looked at the beast claw descending toward him.

In despair, he closed his eyes.

Then a clear female voice rang out.

“Damn it! Why are you closing your eyes? Move your ass and get up here!”

Overjoyed, Xia Sisong opened his eyes.

Rolling across the ground, he narrowly dodged the beast’s claws.

He grabbed Li Li’s outstretched hand and was hauled into the SUV.

The remaining four survivors copied him and were quickly pulled aboard as well.

The demonic beasts watched their meal get snatched away right before their eyes.

Roaring furiously, more than a dozen monsters took off after the blue SUV.

Li Li’s face lit up with excitement.

“Boss, let me get out and kill them!”

Shen Biqian ignored her.

She rolled down the window and extended an arm outside.

“Wood Binding—go!”

The beast closest to the vehicle was instantly wrapped in wooden vines.

It struggled and roared in fury.

Looking at it through the rearview mirror, Shen Biqian calmly said:

“Wood Binding—tighten!”

Boom!

The monster’s enormous body was crushed apart by the tightening vines.

Its flesh exploded into countless pieces, blood spraying across the road.

The pursuing beasts were stunned.

Roaring uneasily, they no longer dared to continue the chase.

Li Li’s excited face instantly turned pale.

She recognized those vines.

They were the exact same vines that had bound her the day before.

She had never imagined they were powerful enough to literally crush a demonic beast to pieces.

Compared to a monster, her tiny body would have been crushed even more easily.

From that moment on, she behaved herself and no longer dared to act recklessly.

If Shen Biqian had survived a few more years in her first life, she would have known that the man she had rescued today simply because she couldn’t ignore her conscience…

was none other than Xia Sisong, one of the future overlords of the world.

Even if she had not saved him, he would not have died in the jaws of the demonic beasts that day.

However, that single act of kindness would ultimately give her family the greatest source of protection in the apocalypse.

At that moment, Xia Sisong, having narrowly escaped death, was squeezed inside the crowded SUV and still felt as though everything was unreal.

After witnessing Shen Biqian’s display of power, he was completely stunned.

When he finally recovered his senses, he quickly expressed his gratitude.

“Thank you.”

But Shen Biqian had no time to respond.

The sense of unease in her heart was growing stronger and stronger.

She drove at top speed the entire way.

Su Jianmo gently tried to comfort her.

“It’ll be alright. Uncle and Auntie will be fine. Don’t worry.”

Biting her lip, Shen Biqian forced a faint smile.

“Mm. They’ll be fine.”

Bang!

After repeatedly crashing against the gate, the demonic beast finally broke through.

The washing machine and refrigerator that had been blocking the door were instantly smashed to pieces beneath its claws.

Holding a kitchen cleaver, Father Shen slowly retreated.

“Go hide in the bedroom. No matter what happens, don’t come out.”

Mother Shen’s tears streamed down her face.

She knew that staying would only burden her husband and accomplish nothing.

Looking at the demonic beast slowly approaching them with its massive, blood-filled jaws open wide, she gritted her teeth and ran into the bedroom.

“Husband, you have to survive!”

“ROAR!”

The beast looked greedily at the weak humans before it.

It raised a claw and brought it crashing down.

Father Shen’s face was pale, and cold sweat trickled down his temples.

Yet the hand gripping the cleaver remained remarkably steady.

The instant the claw descended, he swung the blade at it.

The cleaver struck home.

Blood splattered all over Father Shen.

The beast roared in pain.

Ignoring the cleaver still embedded in its paw, it swung viciously at Father Shen.

It intended to crush this insignificant human who had dared to wound it.

Father Shen didn’t dare stop to retrieve the cleaver.

He rolled across the floor and narrowly avoided the attack.

The beast attempted to pursue him.

But the moment it placed its injured paw on the ground—

“YOWWWL!”

It let out a painful howl and jerked the paw back up.

The cleaver lodged in its paw had been driven even deeper by its own weight.

The beast felt both furious and confused.

Tilting its large head, it seemed to think for a moment.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, it lifted the injured paw to its mouth and used its teeth to pull out the cleaver.

Clang!

The cleaver fell to the floor.

The beast lifted its head and glared at Father Shen, who was backed against the wall.

With an enraged roar, it charged straight at him.
