In one breath, seeing his Photography Attribute Points rise from the original 30.7 to 33, Chen Cheng was overjoyed.
He had never expected it.
Just carrying the camera and filming one scene had increased his Photography Attribute by so much.
“Looks like I need to get more practical experience.”
Because of this,
whenever Chen Cheng had free time afterward, he would chat idly with the Cinematographer.
The purpose of his idle chatter was to give the Cinematographer a chance to let him use the camera for a while.
Unfortunately,
the film crew had rather strict rules.
Chen Cheng was only a script supervisor. Although he often wanted to take the camera and film, the Director would not allow it.
It was not only the Director who refused.
The Cinematographer would not allow it either.
Cinematography was his job in the first place. What would it mean for someone else to do the filming?
Wouldn't that be ruining his own livelihood?
Besides, Chen Cheng already had his script supervisor duties, so he had no time to film either.
There was nothing he could do.
Chen Cheng could only choose to wait until the film crew finished work.
But that was troublesome as well.
After work, all the actors would be resting, and none of them would cooperate with Chen Cheng's filming.
Just as Chen Cheng was feeling utterly conflicted,
Yang Mi came over. “Chen Cheng, the film crew has finished work. Why are you still holding the camera?”
“Well, I want to learn a little about filming techniques.”
“I really have to hand it to you. You majored in acting, but instead of acting properly, you came here to be a Stagehand. You said you just wanted to experience being a Stagehand, and that would have been fine, but then you became a script supervisor too. Don't tell me you don't want to be an actor anymore.”
“I really don't particularly want to be an actor anymore.”
“Hah, you make it sound as though you've already grown tired of being an actor.”
Yang Mi rolled her eyes at Chen Cheng, then continued, “So, how is your studying going?”
“You can see for yourself.”
Chen Cheng spread his hands. “No one is letting me film them. I'm a Hero with nowhere to use my abilities.”
“Of course. The film crew is here to make a movie. Who would be willing to act as your practice partner every day?”
“That is true.”
Chen Cheng was helpless.
Just then,
the System suddenly displayed a mission.
【System: Photography mission: Film a female actress. The higher the shot quality, the more Photography Attribute Points will be awarded.】
Once this mission appeared,
Chen Cheng was delighted inside.
However, he did not quite understand what it meant by the better the footage.
What did “the higher the shot quality” mean?
Did it mean genuine shot quality, or something else?
Was this System a little too evil?
He would never do that sort of thing.
However, although Chen Cheng would not do such a thing, now that the System had issued the mission, he certainly would not give up.
After thinking for a moment, Chen Cheng said, “Yang Mi, how about I film you?”
“Film me?”
“Yes.”
Chen Cheng nodded, then said, “I looked over the Screenplay. Your scenes are quite demanding these days. Director Li is also rather strict. Look at how he keeps scolding people these past few days. If anything about your performance is bad, you'll definitely get scolded too. Rather than that, why don't we do an audition rehearsal first? You can perform, and I'll film you. That way, your acting skill can improve, and I can learn some filming techniques too.”
“This idea... You want me to be your free model, don't you?”
“If that's how you want to think of it, there's nothing I can do.”
“Fine, I'll let you benefit from it. But don't do anything improper.”
Yang Mi warned Chen Cheng.
“What do you mean, improper... It's just filming.”
Chen Cheng was speechless. He really could not understand what the young woman was thinking.
Had she discovered the evil thoughts in his heart?
This was so embarrassing that he did not even dare continue thinking about it.
..
“No, that posture isn't right.”
“Straighten your waist a little, Yang Mi. You already have such a good figure, so what are you worried about?”
“Yes, exactly like that. The character you're playing isn't the petite and gentle type, but a beautiful, poised woman. You should perform with confidence too.”
That afternoon,
after the film crew finished work, Chen Cheng carried the camera and filmed Yang Mi.
Although Chen Cheng did not particularly understand what “the higher the shot quality” meant,
with Yang Mi serving as his model,
he discovered that his Photography Attribute was increasing continuously, almost like a screen constantly refreshing.
The rate of increase was even more terrifying than when Chen Cheng had previously carried the camera while running and jumping around.
Chen Cheng had no idea what exactly was behind it.
But how could he possibly be unwilling to accept something like this?
【System: Host's Photography Attribute increased by 1 point.】
【System: Host's Photography Attribute increased by 1.5 points.】
【System: Host's Photography Attribute increased by 1.6 points.】
Previously, all of Chen Cheng's attribute increases had been fractions of a point.
He had never expected it.
This time, filming Yang Mi had caused Chen Cheng's Attribute Points to surge more than ever before.
And that was not all.
He had only filmed her once,
yet Chen Cheng's Photography Attribute had already risen to 50 points.
That was still not all.
As Chen Cheng's Photography Attribute rose dramatically, the corresponding change in reality was a terrifying improvement in his filming techniques.
Originally, the footage Chen Cheng shot could only be called ordinary. It was not bad, but it had no particular highlights either.
However,
when Chen Cheng filmed Yang Mi,
her many unique strengths were continuously captured by the camera.
“Chen Cheng, what level are you at? You made me look far too beautiful!”
When Chen Cheng exported the footage and saw the dignified, beautiful, and poised character onscreen, Yang Mi was utterly astonished.
One had to know that
Chen Cheng's filming was even better than that of the film crew's professional Cinematographer.
“That can only mean you're beautiful to begin with, which is why the footage turned out so good.”
Chen Cheng was also somewhat shocked.
He had never expected it.
With a professional model to film, his filming techniques had actually improved so much.
“Keep spinning that story. Oh? How did I never realize you were so smooth-tongued before?”
“I'm being sincere. If I'm lying, may heaven strike me with five thunderbolts.”
“Go away, go away, go away. Don't make it sound like some eternal oath. Still, thank you for today. After performing just now, I found quite a few insights as well. I believe I won't be scolded by the Director during tomorrow's scenes.”
This filming session lasted until nine that evening, and only then did Chen Cheng and Yang Mi finish work.
..
The next day,
because of the previous rehearsal shoot, when it was time for Yang Mi's scenes, she performed exceptionally well.
This also surprised Director Li somewhat.
One had to know that
although Yang Mi had started out as a child star, that did not mean child stars necessarily had good acting skill.
In reality, Yang Mi's acting skill could not be called bad, but it could only be described as average.
Not to mention that
in his previous life, countless people had complained that Yang Mi's acting skill was not very good.
Yang Mi's performance today had clearly exceeded the Director's expectations.
“Yang Mi, your performance was excellent today. Keep it up.”
Rarely, Director Li praised Yang Mi.
This excited Yang Mi, and after work that afternoon, she took the initiative to find Chen Cheng and said she would be his model again.
Chen Cheng could not have asked for anything better.
He picked up the camera and filmed Yang Mi from every angle once again.
At first,
Yang Mi performed according to the scenes in the Screenplay.
Chen Cheng also became the Director, instructing Yang Mi during the shoot.
Later on,
Chen Cheng would first envision the shot before filming.
Thus,
under this approach, the footage Chen Cheng produced became increasingly sophisticated and artistic.
In fact,
under Chen Cheng's direction,
sometimes he filmed only a few shots without any dialogue.
Yet
through those shots alone, one could understand with absolute clarity what Chen Cheng intended to express.
Of course,
as Chen Cheng continued filming, his Photography Attribute kept increasing as well. By the end of that day's shoot, Chen Cheng had gained 3 points of Photography Attribute.
That was not all.
Chen Cheng also discovered that under this kind of filming, his director attribute increased as well.
As for the reason,
directing was, in essence, the art of the shot.
Improving his filming techniques would naturally drive an increase in his director attribute as well.
Chen Cheng's current attributes were as follows:
Host: Chen Cheng.
Physique: 77
Writing: 70
Art Department: 40
Photography: 53
Acting skill: 66
Director: 40
His physique, writing, and Art Department attributes had not changed much.
His acting skill had increased only slightly. Some days it rose by 0.1 points, while on other days it did not increase at all.
But after staying with the film crew for so long, it had still increased by 1 attribute point.
Photography had changed the most, rising from 30 to 53.
His director attribute had also risen from around 35 to 40.
