Seeing that her mother still did not approve of her going to the countryside, Lu Qingqing could only say again:

“Whatever you say now is too late. I’ve already signed up.”

“In ten days I’ll be heading down to the countryside. You all know that once registration is done, it can’t be changed.”Full novel: Rebirth in the ’70s: My Info System Refreshes Every Day — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After hearing this, Lu’s mother said nothing and could only silently cry, heartbroken for her youngest daughter.

“You… sigh.” Old Master Lu and Lu’s father exchanged a look. After this incident, Qingqing had become even more determined.

Trying to persuade her to stay was probably impossible.

Forget it. Then the whole family would go together to Majiatun.

Since they had to leave tomorrow morning, there wasn’t much time left for packing, so they immediately got to work.

Following Lu Qingqing’s suggestion, each person packed two sets of clothes, a cotton quilt, two or three days’ dry rations, and a few essential daily necessities.

They also placed extra money in their luggage—this money was meant for the Revolutionary Committee inspectors.

If their luggage was searched and nothing valuable was found, those people might get unhappy and make things difficult for them.

Since they were leaving anyway, there was no need to suffer over a bit of money.

While they were talking, the courtyard gate was suddenly knocked on.

Lu Qingqing stood up and said, “Grandpa, Dad, Mom, you all rest. I’ll see who it is.”

“Qingqing! Lu Qingqing! I know you’re home! Open the door! I’ve got something important!”

Ye Lingxi was banging on the gate anxiously.

“Lu Qingqing, open the door! I know you’re inside!”

“Open the door! Hurry up!”

“You think you know anything,” Lu Qingqing muttered with a headache. “This woman is insane.”

In her previous life, Ye Lingxi had been a thorn between her and Wei Guangming. Even after marriage, she never fully cut ties with him.

The two of them kept entangling endlessly, while Ye Lingxi always pretended to be an innocent white lotus, insisting they were “pure and innocent.”

Disgusting.

“Ye Lingxi, are you sick? If you’re sick, go to the veterinary station. I don’t have medicine for animals here.”

“Qingqing… y-you… why are you talking like that?” Ye Lingxi immediately put on a wronged expression.

Tears welled in her eyes. If any man were here, he would probably be completely charmed and want to protect her.

“Tsk. Cut the act,” Lu Qingqing said coldly. “Your plain face doesn’t inspire any interest in me no matter how you pretend.”

“If you want sympathy, go be reborn. At the very least, fix your uneven front and back before acting up again.”

Lu Qingqing’s gaze moved from Ye Lingxi’s face down to her chest with undisguised disdain.

That look was truly devastating. Ye Lingxi’s tears weren’t fake anymore—they were real.

“Lu Qingqing, you… you’re going too far! Aren’t we best friends?” she stomped her foot.

“Best friends? Since when?” Lu Qingqing exaggerated. “You, a woman holding a hoe ready to dig up my corner anytime, want to be my friend?”

“Don’t joke. And don’t show off your intelligence in front of me—your IQ is lower than a zombie’s.”

“You you you…” Ye Lingxi was furious, crying uncontrollably. She never expected Lu Qingqing’s mouth to be this vicious.

What was wrong with her today? Had she drunk poison?

But she couldn’t leave. She kept telling herself it was all for Brother Guangming.

As long as she could save him, she was willing to endure anything.

She wiped her tears and finally got to the point.

“Lu Qingqing, I know you have abilities. Brother Guangming treated you so well before he got into trouble—you must save him.”

“What?” Lu Qingqing looked at her like she had heard nonsense.

“Help him? Since when did he treat me well?”

That scumbag.

Lu Qingqing even raised her hand to slap her—but then thought better of it.

A scumbag man and a delusional woman were a perfect match anyway. If she wasn’t mistaken, Wei Chunsheng would probably take all the blame.

And Wei Guangming—now a eunuch—would come out later…

Heh.

She wondered how a eunuch would “consummate a marriage” after getting a wife.

Those two who had been entangled for a lifetime in her previous life—better stay locked together in this one too.

“Ye Lingxi, if you want to save him so badly, fine—bring money.”

“Hiring people costs money. Don’t just talk with your mouth.”

“As long as you pay, I can find someone to save Wei Guangming.”

“So tell me—how much are you willing to pay?”

Seeing Lu Qingqing’s outstretched hand, Ye Lingxi widened her eyes in disbelief.

“You’re asking me for money?”

“What, do you think things run on air?” Lu Qingqing sneered.

“Ye Lingxi, your face isn’t that big. Why are you walking around like the world owes you everything?”

“You want to save someone but don’t want to pay? What, you think just moving your lips solves everything?”

“Then go on, impress us—use your magical lips and shout ‘Japan will be destroyed, the Eagle will fall!’”

“Set the time to the next second. Go on, show us a miracle.”

Ye Lingxi’s face turned red with anger, but she forced it down.

“I… I don’t have money,” she gritted out.

“Oh wow, you even know you don’t have money?” Lu Qingqing snapped. “No money and you’re still barking here? Who taught you that logic?”

She waved her fist.

“I don’t have a rule against hitting dogs. Keep barking and I’ll hit you.”

“You you you… you’re unreasonable!” Ye Lingxi stamped her foot in rage.

She finally understood—Lu Qingqing never intended to save anyone.

She was just playing with her.

Just as well. When Brother Guangming came out, she would definitely tell him everything.

But then Lu Qingqing’s next words made her freeze.

“Unreasonable? You’re the one being unreasonable,” Lu Qingqing said with a cold laugh.

“Your mother climbed into your uncle’s bed for ‘reasonableness.’ Does your aunt know about that?”

Ye Lingxi’s eyes widened in terror.

How did she know?!

She couldn’t understand it—but she didn’t dare provoke her anymore.

If this got out, her mother and uncle would be finished. Even if they didn’t die, they’d be sent to labor camps.

“Lu Qingqing… you’re ruthless.”

She stomped her foot and ran away in panic, too afraid to hear another word.
