The two of them finished lunch in silence.
After Shen Junshan left for work, Han Jiaojiao opened the household money and ration ticket box at home.
Because the original owner of this body had a poor mind and no concept of money or tickets—she always went shopping with Shen Junshan—she had no idea how much these things were worth.
Han Jiaojiao took three yuan and a few ration tickets with her when she went out.
She first strolled along the main road to familiarize herself with the surroundings, gradually walking farther away, then wandered into an alley to loop back to the main road.
But the alley was hard to navigate—not only was it bumpy and potholed, dirty and rundown, but there was also mud and dog shit everywhere.
Han Jiaojiao carefully walked on her tiptoes, afraid she might accidentally step in dog droppings.
Just as she was about to emerge from the alley, she suddenly heard voices coming from not far ahead.
“Qiangzi, hurry up and bring the tricycle over—getting him to the hospital is the priority!”
“Let me grab a blanket to cover him—shouldn’t we keep him warm?”
The man immediately pulled a large piece of woolen fabric from a pile of junk and was about to drape it over the old man.
Han Jiaojiao, in a rush, slapped his hand away: “Are you trying to kill him? He can’t breathe through his mouth right now, and his chest pressure is rising. You want to press a thick wool blanket down on him—are you that eager for him to die?”
“Where the hell did you come from?”
Han Jiaojiao had no time to answer them. She jumped onto the tricycle and tore open the old man’s clothes—one look told her it was an asthma attack.
She quickly looked around and, sure enough, spotted an asthma inhaler on the ground.
It must have been taken out by the patient when the attack started, ready to inhale, but he couldn’t hold onto it and it dropped.
Han Jiaojiao immediately picked it up and sprayed it into his mouth.
Qiangzi saw her spraying something random into the man’s mouth and had no idea what she was doing.
He was terrified the man would die right on his doorstep, so he snatched the inhaler from her hand: “Crazy woman, what the hell are you doing?!”
Han Jiaojiao’s eyes blazed with anger as she shoved him off: “If you’d given him the medicine three minutes ago, he’d have been fine by now. The patient can’t breathe on his own—he needs manual assistance.”
“Manual? You mean… mouth-to-mouth?”
The two young men both covered their mouths with their fingers, looking utterly bewildered…
Han Jiaojiao’s attention was fixed on the middle-aged man. Given his current condition, getting him to the hospital might be too late…
She tore open his clothes, and with a flick of her mind, a marker pen appeared in her hand.
Twisting off the ink cartridge, Han Jiaojiao moved her hand swiftly and precisely—plunging the pen into his throat.
The sound of gasping beside her turned into screams of shock.
“You—you’re killing him…” Dongzi’s legs went weak as he got down.
Han Jiaojiao furrowed her brows and barked: “Bullshit! I stabbed his trachea, not his carotid artery! He can’t breathe, so air has to go in directly through the windpipe. Get him to the hospital now—if we’re late, he’ll really die!”
Dongzi and Qiangzi were already scared out of their wits.
Completely under Han Jiaojiao’s control, the two dragged the tricycle toward the hospital.
Perhaps out of a doctor’s moral conscience, Han Jiaojiao didn’t think too much about it—she sat on the tricycle, supporting the patient’s head and helping him breathe.
It wasn’t until six or seven minutes later that they finally reached the hospital entrance. Just as Han Jiaojiao and the others were about to go in, a nurse came up from the side and blocked their way.
“Jiaojiao? What are you doing here? You two…”
She glanced at Dongzi and Qiangzi, and though she didn’t say anything, her eyes were full of contempt and disgust.
Another name surfaced in Han Jiaojiao’s mind.
County flower, Chen Xiaoying.
Chen Amin’s biological older sister, who got into a health school and, after graduating, had her family pull strings to get her a job as a nurse at the hospital.
Though the salary wasn’t high, it was respectable, and with her good looks, she had a bit of a reputation in Yongchun Xian.
Han Jiaojiao remembered her well, not because Chen Xiaoying was famous, but because she was skilled in her methods.
If Chen Amin was the vicious female supporting character, Chen Xiaoying was the sanctimonious white lotus who schemed behind the scenes.
Her methods were far more sophisticated than her younger sister’s.
Han Jiaojiao pushed her away and said coldly, “Ugly freak, get out of my way!”
“Ugly?”
Chen Xiaoying was slightly annoyed and deliberately raised her voice, saying, “Jiaojiao, you can fool around all you want on normal days, but this is Er San Yi Hao Yiyuan!”
The moment Han Jiaojiao heard the hospital number, she knew this place was no ordinary hospital.
But so what? No matter how you spun it, this was still a hospital.
A hospital’s job was to treat the sick and save lives—who were they to rank patients into classes!
She jumped off the vehicle and unceremoniously knocked Chen Xiaoying to the ground, pointing at her nose and cursing, “This is a hospital, not a place to haggle over deals!”
“The patient collapsed right near your hospital—if we don’t bring him here, where else? Send him to the Western Paradise?”
“If he dies because he missed the optimal treatment window, that’s on you! On your hospital! You let someone die by refusing to help!”
Chen Xiaoying was so shaken by Han Jiaojiao’s momentum that she couldn’t get a single word out.
She hadn’t expected anyone to dare cause trouble at Er San Yi Hao Yiyuan, nor had she expected that everything Han Jiaojiao said today would be so reasonable that she couldn’t find a single flaw.
Chen Xiaoying glanced at the person in the vehicle and deliberately shouted, “Jiaojiao, did you do this? How could you kill someone?”
Han Jiaojiao: ??
Chen Xiaoying stomped her foot anxiously: “Jiaojiao, no matter how reckless and stupid you are, you can’t stab someone in the neck with a pen! If he dies, you’ll go to jail!”
Han Jiaojiao almost died laughing.
She had assumed that since Chen Xiaoying graduated from a health school and had worked at the hospital for two years, she’d at least know basic common sense and emergency procedures. But now it was clear—she was nothing but hot air.
Hot air that left a stench behind—she was utterly useless.
Han Jiaojiao sneered, “I was wrong. I was truly wrong. If I’d known the medical staff at Er San Yi Hao Yiyuan were at this level, I should have taken him to the clinic three stops away. Maybe he’d have had a better chance there.”
Chen Xiaoying was someone who cared deeply about face, and being humiliated for the first time—especially by Han Jiaojiao—was more than she could bear.
Her face had turned a deep purple, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Just then, the head nurse heard the commotion and came out to check what was happening. The moment she saw the person in the vehicle, her face went pale.
As she called a few people over to carry the patient inside, she noticed the trachea exposed at his neck and turned back in surprise to ask, “Who did this?”
“Me.”
“You are…”
“Han Jiaojiao.”
After hearing that, the head nurse hurriedly followed the stretcher into the operating room.
Chen Xiaoying gave a cold, faint smile.
She put on an act of concern, grabbing Han Jiaojiao’s hand and saying, “Jiaojiao, don’t be scared. If he really can’t be saved, I’ll definitely put in a good word for you. After all, you’re just a fool—who would hold a grudge against a fool?”
Han Jiaojiao was truly about to be infuriated to death by Chen Xiaoying.
How could anyone be so ignorant, so arrogantly self-assured, and such a white lotus at the same time?
“A fool who kills doesn’t have to take responsibility, but when professionals cause medical malpractice out of bias and stubbornness, someone still has to answer for it, right?”
“Jiaojiao, what do you mean by that?”
Han Jiaojiao sneered, “This isn’t just a medical malpractice, it’s a scandal. Someone definitely has to take responsibility. Chen Xiaoying, you’d better pray the rescue succeeds, or else… heh, someone’s going to be in big trouble.”
