With his strength and speed, Kata easily cleared the garden, ridding it of all the weeds and trimming the trees and the hedges.
He had the speed to complete all this much faster, but he did not do that in order to avoid too much suspicion falling on him.
It took him seven hours, and this was when the slaves were called for meals.
By working in the mansion, the Wena got to eat better than their brethren who were sweating in the mines.
The food was still a sort of paste, but this time, it was white and it did not have any soil in it.
Kata enjoyed the food.
It was nowhere near the quality he wanted and believed he deserved, but it was better than cockroaches and roots.
After eating their food, the stewards sent them back to their work while saying that they would rest after their deaths and that was more than enough.
Kata was not surprised by this.
The few days he had been in this world had more than allowed him to adapt to his new situation.
This was a world where he was nothing but property.
Back in the garden, the steward was shaken when he saw that the garden was already worked on and, on top of this, everything was more than perfect.
Far better than in the past.
In fact, it looked like an entirely new garden.
“Did you do this?” the steward asked.
Kata responded with all due respect.
The steward was shaken by Kata’s speed and work quality, but he was not about to show any of this on his face.
“Come with me,” the steward said with a calm that made Kata realize that this man’s loathing for the Wena was far greater than he had anticipated.
The steward led Kata through the mansion, moving through one hall after another.
Finally, they reached a medium-sized pavilion.
“This is my home.
You need to clean everything in this place, including the latrine in the back.
When I come back, I better not find anything out of order.” After saying this in the most arrogant manner meant to put Kata in his place, the steward walked away.
It was in this moment that Kata decided to get rid of this steward.
He had just showed that he would be an obstacle for Kata, and this made Kata’s decision very easy and clear.
He entered the pavilion.
It was medium-sized only when compared to the other structures in the mansion.
The pavilion had seven rooms, and they all had to be cleaned.
Kata picked up the new tools and began cleaning.
He had never done anything like this in his life, but the lack of experience did not matter.
He used his strength and speed to clean the place in complete silence.
He made sure not to break anything.
All the Wena had been warned against this.
Breaking a single thing in the mansion was a crime worthy of death.
Seeing how the steward was not too happy with him, Kata had to be extra careful.
The pavilion was cleaned within a few hours, with the floors becoming so shiny that one could see their reflection.
After this, Kata went to the back of the pavilion, and before he saw it, he smelled it.
The latrine was where the steward had said it was.
It was a truly filthy place that allowed Kata to evaluate that in this world, technology was truly behind.
They did not even have running water, and so they had to use pit latrines.
The small structure was filled with flies, and brown stains could be seen in a few places including the walls.
The floor was cracking due to the urine, and the hole in the floor was dark and uncomfortable to look at.
Kata took in a deep breath before he entered the latrine.
He cleaned while holding his breath, and this time around, he did not care to waste any time in order to avoid suspicion.
He worked quickly, and within twenty minutes, the latrine was cleaner than some plates out there.
“This is where you will die,” he said before walking away.
As he waited for the steward to return, Kata looked around the pavilion.
There were no books, let alone a single pen.
Kata had hoped to gather some information, but there was nothing.
When he found the study, a small room hidden in the back, he was happy to see paper.
“At least they have reached this level.
It would truly be sad if I had to use bamboo sticks to write.”
Kata did not waste any time.
He sat down, picked up the quill by the side, and ground the ink.
He was disappointed by the lack of pens but not surprised.
With immortal powers, he doubted that any of the humans in this world spent much time on thinking of solving their problems without using their powers.
Kata wrote as much as he could, explaining his idea in a manner that could be understood even by the dumbest of people.
After writing everything down, he realized that this was a new world.
Even though these people appeared to be humans, they spoke a language he had never heard of.
It was very clear that the person who would receive the letter he was writing would not understand a single thing.
Kata shook his head at this oversight.
He was about to mess up his plan with this one mistake.
Kata ripped the paper into pieces before lighting it on fire with his hands.
He then began working on a new message.
This time, he used pictures to explain what he meant without including a single word.
When he was done, he properly folded the letter and used the steward’s seal to close it.
With the letter in hand, Kata walked out of the study and returned to the back of the house.
He estimated that he still had about two hours before the steward would return to check on him.
“It should be more than enough time to deal with this problem.”
Kata sat down and began thinking about his next step.
He wanted to kill the steward and he was not willing to wait for too long.
He wanted him dead, and it had to be now.
