At the front desk, the middle-aged woman was engrossed in watching television. Following her gaze, Lin Ya also looked at the screen and vaguely saw a man holding another man in his arms while biting him frantically. She froze for a moment, but when she looked at the television again, the host was already reporting the international news.

When the middle-aged woman noticed her approaching, her eyes filled with disdain, mixed with a faint trace of… envy. Lin Ya was utterly speechless. Forget it. There was no point trying to guess what was going on in the woman’s mind!

“Excuse me, do you have a charger?” Lin Ya tried her best to remain polite. After all, she was staying under someone else’s roof.

“A charger? You’re in this line of work, and you actually went out without bringing a charger?”

Lin Ya ignored the woman’s sarcastic remarks. She knew this wasn’t the time to argue.

“Excuse me, do you have one or not?”

“There’s a whole bunch in that corner over there. Go get one yourself.” The woman casually pointed toward the innermost corner before turning her attention back to the morning news on television.

Lin Ya followed her gaze toward the screen and caught only a glimpse of a woman’s deathly pale face and the blood at the corner of her mouth.

“Things have really gone to hell these days. Why are there rabies patients everywhere?” the middle-aged woman muttered before picking up the remote control and changing the channel again.

Helpless, Lin Ya walked over to the corner where the chargers were kept. She saw an iron rod with numerous chargers tied to it, each one bearing a QR code on its cord. With no other choice, she used her phone, which had only 1% battery remaining, to scan the code and make the payment. Then she took a charger and headed upstairs.

Back in her room, she plugged the charger into the wall socket and connected it to her phone, but the screen remained black, with no sign of charging. After fiddling with it for quite some time, Lin Ya finally noticed a line of tiny writing beneath the socket: Scan the QR code on the back to charge!

“That middle-aged woman really has money signs in her eyes!” Lin Ya muttered through gritted teeth. Her phone had already gone completely black. How the hell was she supposed to scan anything now?

She lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, her heart filled with confusion and helplessness. She didn’t know whether it was because the exhausting, sleepless night had finally caught up with her or because she now had a private space where she could finally feel at ease, but before long, she had fallen asleep.

When she opened her eyes again, sunlight was already slipping through the gap in the curtains, spilling warmly across her face. She let out a huge yawn and stretched, feeling much more refreshed, although her mind was still a little foggy.

She was still wondering what exactly was happening to her. One moment, she had been playing a game at home in a small county town, and the next, she had somehow become a woman in a man’s bed.

Just then, a flood of memories that didn’t belong to her suddenly appeared in her mind.

There was a novel in her memories called The Apocalypse’s Sweet-Pampered Female Lead Is Loved by Everyone. Her recollection was hazy, but she seemed to remember reading it at home and even criticizing the author at the time, saying, “No wonder she’s the female lead’s own mother!” But now, those memories felt as though she had personally experienced everything herself.

Sh-she… had she actually transmigrated into a book?!

Lin Ya’s heart began pounding wildly. She couldn’t believe any of this was real. She stood up and hurried over to the mirror, staring at her reflection. It was still that somewhat familiar face, but her eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty.

She had a pure and innocent beauty with a hint of seductiveness. Her skin was as fair as snow, and her bright, expressive eyes seemed to sparkle, framed by long eyelashes that fluttered gently as though they could speak. Her lips were rosy and full, and the corners of her mouth naturally curved upward in a faint smile that was difficult to notice, making people instinctively want to draw closer to her. Her long, black hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall, adding to her soft and graceful appearance.

Under normal circumstances, if she had seen such a delicate face and perfect figure, even more exquisite than her own, she would undoubtedly have been so delighted that she would have danced with joy. But this was the apocalypse! An apocalypse where people devoured one another! An apocalypse where all moral boundaries had been completely abandoned!

In this world, a viral storm had swept across the entire globe. Some people had been infected by the virus and transformed into monsters that were neither fully human nor entirely something else, commonly known as zombies.

They felt no pain, never grew tired, and were extremely sensitive to sound and smell. Their only food was human flesh and blood. Plants and animals had also undergone mutations, becoming no different from infected humans!

Fortunately, the food chain was always fair. Along with zombies and mutated plants and animals, there were also people who awakened supernatural abilities, as well as mutated plants and animals. These three special kinds of existences gave humanity a tiny chance to catch its breath.

However, Lin Ya’s appearance would certainly bring her no advantages in the apocalypse. It would only invite endless trouble. To make matters worse, in this novel, she was a supporting female character who appeared only briefly, handed the male lead his golden finger, and then died.

In the original novel, the male lead, Ling Chuan, had been the leader of a secret mercenary corps belonging to the state before the apocalypse. He awakened powerful lightning and wind abilities. Moreover, thanks to a jade pendant belonging to the original owner, he acquired a spatial dimension, becoming the first person in the apocalypse to possess three types of supernatural abilities.

The original female lead had been a member of the male lead’s mercenary team before the apocalypse. She had secretly loved him for a long time and accompanied him throughout his journey, fighting zombies and leveling up. In the end, she successfully won his heart.

She was a powerhouse in combat, capable of taking down zombies with her overwhelming strength. She also possessed water and light abilities, allowing her to support her teammates. She was practically the beloved darling of the entire mercenary team, and even the whole country!

As for Lin Ya’s older brother, Lin Yu, he was one of the unfortunate supporting male characters. He fell in love with the original female lead and, through a series of misunderstandings, ended up sleeping with her. In the end, he even sacrificed his life to lure away a high-level zombie so that the male and female leads could escape.

As for Lin Ya, she was the supporting female character in the original novel who died as soon as the apocalypse began. Her story with the male lead was an old and clichéd one. She had gotten drunk at a class reunion, and one of her classmates had taken her to a hotel. When they left, they hadn’t closed the door properly, allowing the drugged male lead to stumble inside.

However, in the original novel, the male lead belonged to the female lead, so nothing actually happened between him and Lin Ya. The following morning, though, the original owner had been so frightened that just as the male lead was about to wake up, she had knocked him unconscious with a bedside lamp.

She then hurried out of the hotel, hoping to hide at home. Who could have expected that the driver would suddenly pass out on the way? Before she could even call for help, the driver, who had turned into a zombie, bit her.

In the end, three months later, her older brother, enduring his grief and sorrow, brought Lin Ya’s life to an end. The crystal core inside her head became the only proof that she had ever existed.

This left Lin Ya feeling deeply aggrieved. In the novel, nothing had happened between the male lead and the supporting female character, yet when it came to her, she had actually been slept with by someone else. But then again, when she thought about it in reverse, the male lead’s figure and appearance were exactly to her taste. Perhaps she hadn’t really lost out that much after all.

Besides, when she had first transmigrated, she had lost all her memories, let alone knowing how to get home. At the time, she hadn’t even known where her home was, so she could only find the nearest small inn. That was why she hadn’t taken a taxi and hadn’t been bitten by a zombified taxi driver on the way. By sheer luck, she had also escaped the fate of dying immediately after arriving.

Lin Ya’s timing couldn’t have been worse. While she had been sleeping in the small inn the previous night, the apocalypse had actually already begun!

Her situation made her want to lie down and give up altogether. Other people who transmigrated into books got spatial dimensions, supplies, powerful teammates, and even formidable parents.

But in Lin Ya’s case, although she did have a spatial jade pendant, she had left it at the hotel two days ago when she had slept with the male lead. For all she knew, it might already have recognized him as its master.

She clearly remembered how the original novel had described it:

Ling Chuan had been injured and drugged, so he hadn’t regained consciousness in time that morning. When he hurriedly got up, the wounds that had already split open on his body began bleeding again, and the blood happened to drip onto the jade pendant Lin Ya had hastily left behind that morning.

Then, after a sudden wave of dizziness, the wounds on his body miraculously healed at an astonishing speed, and an empty space appeared in his mind.

Even Ling Chuan, who had never believed in ghosts or gods, was so startled by this extraordinary event that he began looking around in every direction.

Thinking about this, Lin Ya felt utterly miserable. Given her current situation, she could forget about getting the spatial dimension. For all she knew, the male lead might have already filled it with a huge pile of supplies.
