Although there didn’t seem to be anyone inside the supermarket, Lin Ya still carefully checked every corner from top to bottom. Only after confirming that there was no danger did she quickly pull down the rolling shutter.

The rolling shutter made a tremendous amount of noise, but the one the supermarket owner had specially ordered was quite sturdy, and it was more than enough to withstand these Level-One Zombies.

After pulling down the rolling shutter, she also closed the tempered glass door inside.Full novel: Rebirth of the Supporting Female Character: Transmigrating into an Apocalypse Novel and Being Doted On — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Lin Ya then dragged all the heavy objects in the supermarket toward the entrance and firmly blocked the door. Only then did she finally feel a little safer.

Apart from the rolling shutter, the supermarket was surrounded by solid walls without a single window. There was, however, a small back door fitted with a security door, which made it much more convenient for Lin Ya to come and go.

Just as Lin Ya was wolfing down food inside the supermarket, she suddenly heard a tremendous rumbling sound, followed by several loud gunshots outside.

She didn’t need to guess. This commotion had definitely been caused by the male lead, Ling Chuan. Only he had the strength to make such a huge disturbance.

At that moment, Lin Ya was genuinely envious of the female lead. With such a powerful team, every member of which was her admirer, she could live almost exactly as she had before the apocalypse.

There was a passage in the original novel:

All around her was a scene of utter devastation, yet standing in the middle was Ningning, dressed in a spotless white tracksuit. She looked like a flower blooming in the celestial realm, radiating such dazzling brilliance that no one could look away.

The teammates working hard to collect supplies ahead of her would occasionally turn around just to glance at her, making sure their goddess hadn’t been contaminated by the filthy air before turning back to whatever they were doing.

Whenever Lin Ya imagined that scene, she couldn’t help thinking of Beauty and the Beast.

Meanwhile, the original female lead whom Lin Ya was envying on the neighboring street really was doing far better than she was.

She was sitting in the back seat of a Hummer, with Ling Chuan in the driver’s seat. His eyes constantly swept across the surrounding taxis while his fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly. His teammates were scattered throughout the other seats.

Unlike Lin Ya’s cautious and careful approach, they had powerful firepower and sturdy protection. The Hummer was equipped with a reinforced bumper and enormous tires, allowing it to easily smash through roadblocks, roll over abandoned vehicles, and even crush wandering zombies.

The Food Street, which had once been filled with restaurants and snack shops, was now silent and desolate. Their target was any place that might still have food and water stored inside. However, Ling Chuan had another reason for coming here. He was looking for Lin Yu’s younger sister.

He remembered that in his previous life, Lin Yu’s younger sister had eventually turned into a zombie and was discovered somewhere around this area. It was just that she hadn’t been found until three months later.

“Brother Chuan, look! Is there someone in that taxi?”

Li Ningning’s crisp and efficient voice carried a faint hint of sweetness.

Everyone turned toward the taxi she was pointing at. Its doors were closed, but the windows were open. The interior was blurred by the dim lighting.

Ling Chuan’s heartbeat quickened slightly. He remembered this vehicle. It was exactly the same car in which Lin Ya had died in his previous life.

An ominous feeling welled up inside him. He turned to look at Lin Yu, concerned flickering in his eyes.

Lin Yu was his best friend. He was agile and quick to react, and during the apocalypse, he had awakened a powerful fire ability. He noticed Ling Chuan’s gaze and gave a slight nod, indicating that he would proceed carefully.

When everyone approached, they looked through the window and saw the driver slumped stiffly against his seat. His skin was a sickly grayish white, and his eyes had turned a strange milky color, both typical characteristics of a zombie. Dried blood still stained the corner of his mouth, while one arm hung limply beside him at a twisted angle.

In the back seat, a slightly plump middle-aged woman zombie was curled up. Her clothes were torn and ragged, exposing patches of rotting flesh. Her hair was disheveled, and so much flesh had been gnawed from her face that her features were almost unrecognizable. Her fingers continued scratching restlessly, displaying the zombies’ instinctive desire to attack.

Ling Chuan secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Lin Yu immediately stepped forward and fired two shots into their heads. The two zombies inside the car fell completely silent.

After discovering that it wasn’t Lin Ya, Ling Chuan returned to his usual expression. He unleashed a lightning ability toward the distance, effortlessly eliminating more than a dozen zombies that were chasing them.

“I wonder how my Xiao Ya is doing now. I wonder if she’ll still be waiting for me by the time I find her.”

Their parents had passed away when they were young, leaving him and Lin Ya to depend on each other as they grew up. He had come here for this mission partly because of Lin Ya, but he hadn’t expected the apocalypse to arrive so suddenly.

Li Ningning, who was beside him, turned her head and glanced at Lin Yu, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

She believed that she was already exceptionally outstanding among all the women around her. She had been the top student in her grade since childhood, and as she grew older, she entered a military academy with outstanding grades. After graduating, she had gone directly into a special forces mercenary team.

Everything had gone smoothly for her. Everyone she encountered had always doted on her, but Lin Yu, this sister-obsessed man, was different. Although he admired her as well, his younger sister had always come first in his heart. This made Li Ningning, who had always been accustomed to getting her way, deeply dislike Lin Ya.

The Hummer continued weaving through the ruins of the apocalypse, its engine roaring like a steel beast charging recklessly down the road.

A group of zombies wandered aimlessly nearby. Their movements were sluggish, but there were far too many of them. Before they could even attack the roaring Hummer, Ling Chuan drove straight through them without the slightest hesitation, sending them flying in all directions. Some were crushed beneath the tires, while others were thrown onto the roadside.

Ling Chuan’s lightning ability was like fireworks exploding across a battlefield, striking everywhere at once. Brilliant electricity gathered in his palm, and with each movement of his hand, bolts of lightning shot out and struck the zombie horde, reducing them to charred remains. Every flash of lightning and crash of thunder was accompanied by the zombies’ roars and shrieks.

Lin Yu was extremely frustrated. He couldn’t use his fire ability to set the city on fire!

Li Ningning, meanwhile, gazed at their captain with shining eyes.

However, when they reached the end of the street, a massive horde of zombies blocked their path. These zombies had clearly been drawn here earlier by Lin Ya, especially since the supermarket’s rolling shutter had made an absurd amount of noise.

On top of that, the voices from upstairs occasionally shouting “Miss!” had attracted even more zombies from the surrounding area. Although the Hummer was powerful, it was still somewhat overwhelmed when faced with such a massive horde.

“Everyone, prepare for battle!”

Ling Chuan slammed on the brakes. The Hummer screeched to a halt, and he quickly pulled his automatic rifle from beneath his seat.

Lin Yu followed immediately, grabbing his shotgun and swiftly checking the chamber and ammunition. Li Ningning silently drew the samurai sword from her waist, her movements smooth and graceful.

The zombies surged out of the darkness like a tidal wave. Their sheer numbers made the three of them tense. Low growls rose from the horde, their eyes gleaming with an intense hunger for living flesh.

They began accelerating, charging toward the Hummer in a frenzy.

Ling Chuan opened fire first. His rifle spat flames as bullets rained down upon the zombie horde.

Lin Yu followed close behind, his shotgun unleashing deafening blasts that knocked down entire groups of zombies with every shot.

Li Ningning swung her samurai sword, her movements as graceful as a dance, yet every strike was precise enough to sever a zombie’s head.

During the battle, Ling Chuan’s lightning ability became the turning point. With a loud shout, he thrust both hands forward, sending a bolt of lightning shooting from his palms directly into the densest part of the zombie horde and causing tremendous destruction.

When a zombie broke through their wall of firepower and lunged toward Li Ningning, Lin Yu stepped in front of her without hesitation. He swung the stock of his shotgun hard into the zombie’s head, knocking it down.

Li Ningning didn’t waste any time. She immediately stepped forward and used her samurai sword to sever the zombie’s head. Her swordsmanship was clean and decisive, with every strike landing exactly where it should.

The battle became increasingly fierce as the zombies continued pouring forward, seemingly without end. The three of them fought while constantly adjusting their positions, making sure that no zombie could break through their defensive line.

Meanwhile, Lin Ya sat quietly inside the supermarket, eating instant noodles while praying that the male lead would kill a few more zombies. That way, there would be fewer dangers for her to face when she went out to gather supplies tomorrow.
