Chapter 10: The Law of the Wilderness

Reborn as a Snow Wolf: My Bloodline Ancestor System

Two days passed quietly after Ash’s first successful hunt.

Winter continued tightening its grip over the Frostfang Continent.

The skies remained covered by thick silver clouds, and fresh snow fell almost every day, burying old trails beneath pristine white blankets.

Towering pine forests stood silently beneath layers of frost, while frozen rivers groaned beneath expanding sheets of ice.

The once-gentle mountain breeze had become sharper, carrying with it a biting cold that reached deep into the bones of every creature living within Blackfang Forest.

Ash stood near the entrance of the Crystal Cave, watching snowflakes drift lazily through the air.

He was nineteen days old now.

Compared to the tiny, helpless cub that had first opened his eyes in this world, his body had grown considerably.

His limbs had become stronger, allowing him to run with confidence across uneven terrain.

His hearing had become so refined that he could distinguish the difference between the footsteps of a rabbit and those of a fox from surprising distances.

His nose could separate hundreds of scents carried by the wind, and with Instinct Synchronization quietly guiding him, every movement felt more natural than the day before.

Yet despite those improvements, Ash remained calm.

The system had remained completely silent ever since recognizing his progress.

No new rewards appeared.

No miraculous opportunities descended from the heavens.

Instead, every bit of growth came from repeating the same exercises day after day.

Surprisingly...

Ash preferred it this way.

Real strength should be built through effort.

Only then would it truly belong to him.

As he observed the camp awakening, something gradually caught his attention.

The atmosphere had changed.

The hunters leaving the Crystal Cave no longer joked among themselves through playful growls.

The scouts departed earlier than usual.

Even the guardian wolves watched the surrounding forest with greater vigilance than before.

Conversations had become shorter.

Expressions had become heavier.

Although no one openly spoke about it, an invisible tension lingered over the entire pack.

Ash quietly narrowed his eyes.

"Something is happening..."

His instincts whispered that the peaceful routine of Blackfang Forest was beginning to shift.

He simply didn’t know why.

Just then, a long, deep howl echoed throughout the valley.

Every wolf immediately lifted its head.

The Alpha.

Without hesitation, the cubs gathered near the central clearing beneath the great stone where the Alpha stood overlooking the pack.

Unlike previous lessons conducted by elders or guardians, today’s gathering felt different.

Every adult wolf present lowered their heads respectfully.

Even the elders remained silent.

Ash instinctively understood.

Today’s lesson would come directly from the leader of Blackfang.

The Alpha slowly looked across every young wolf gathered before him.

His piercing sapphire eyes carried neither warmth nor coldness.

Only quiet authority.

He released a series of deep, measured growls.

Thanks to Perfect Beast Language, Ash understood every word as though spoken in his native language.

"A hunter protects the pack."

"A warrior protects the territory."

"A leader protects the future."

The Alpha allowed those words to settle before continuing.

"There are laws older than every wolf standing here."

"They are not written upon stone."

"They are carried within our blood."

Ash listened with complete focus.

The Alpha raised one powerful paw before pressing it firmly against the frozen ground.

"The First Law."

"Never hunt more than the pack needs."

He slowly swept his gaze across the cubs.

"Greed weakens the forest."

"If prey disappears..."

"So do hunters."

Ash felt those words resonate deeply.

Back on Earth, humanity often consumed far beyond necessity.

Here...

Balance itself ensured survival.

The Alpha continued.

"The Second Law."

"Protect the weak."

His eyes briefly rested upon the mothers standing beside the nursery.

"Today’s cub..."

"...is tomorrow’s hunter."

"If the young perish..."

"The pack has no future."

Ash unconsciously glanced toward his younger siblings.

He finally understood why every adult willingly risked their lives to defend the nursery during the Ice Bear attack.

They hadn’t simply been protecting helpless cubs.

They had been protecting Blackfang’s future.

The Alpha’s voice remained calm.

"The Third Law."

"Never abandon a pack member while they still breathe."

Silence spread across the clearing.

Every adult wolf lowered its head slightly.

Ash remembered the memorial held after the battle with the Ice Bear.

No warrior had been forgotten.

No sacrifice had been ignored.

Even death had been honored with dignity.

Now...

He understood why.

The Alpha slowly continued.

"The Fourth Law."

"Respect every life you hunt."

His gaze shifted toward the surrounding forest.

"The rabbit."

"The deer."

"The mountain goat."

"They do not exist for our amusement."

"They surrender their lives..."

"...so ours may continue."

Ash felt his heart grow heavier.

He remembered the snow mouse he had caught only days earlier.

The quiet gratitude he had offered before eating it.

Without realizing it...

He had already begun following this law.

Finally...

The Alpha looked toward the endless mountains surrounding Blackfang Forest.

"The Fifth Law."

"Pride kills faster than hunger."

A powerful gust of wind swept across the clearing, causing countless snowflakes to dance through the air.

The Alpha remained unmoving.

"A hunter who believes himself invincible..."

"...dies first."

Ash slowly lowered his head.

Every law seemed simple.

Yet together...

They formed the foundation of an entire civilization.

For the first time, he truly understood something.

The Blackfang Pack wasn’t ruled by fear.

The Alpha didn’t command obedience through strength alone.

He led through responsibility.

Every wolf fulfilled its role because every wolf trusted the one standing before them.

That trust...

Was stronger than claws or fangs.

The lesson ended not with cheers or celebration, but with quiet understanding.

The Alpha stepped down from the stone before returning to his usual position overlooking the valley.

No further explanation was necessary.

His actions throughout the past weeks had already demonstrated every law he had spoken.

The guardians soon gathered the cubs once again.

Today’s second lesson would take place beyond the familiar hunting grounds.

Ash followed them eagerly as they moved deeper into Blackfang territory.

The forest gradually changed.

Ancient pine trees became denser.

Towering cliffs rose on either side.

Snowdrifts grew deeper with every passing step.

Eventually, the elder leading the patrol stopped beside an enormous cedar tree.

Its trunk bore four deep claw marks stretching almost from root to branch.

Ash stared at them curiously.

The elder approached the tree before placing his nose against the bark.

"This..."

"...marks Blackfang territory."

He motioned toward the surrounding landscape.

"Every pack."

"Every predator."

"Every clan."

"Has borders."

He led them farther along until they reached a massive boulder marked by the scent of countless wolves.

Ash immediately recognized the smell.

It wasn’t random.

It was deliberate.

The elder nodded approvingly.

"Scent tells strangers."

"’This land already has guardians.’"

Ash slowly looked toward the endless snowy wilderness beyond the marked stone.

For the first time...

He realized the forest wasn’t simply endless land waiting to be explored.

It was divided by invisible boundaries.

Crossing one carelessly...

Could begin a war.

The thought sent a quiet chill through his heart.

Unknown to the young cubs...

Far beyond those unseen borders...

Something had already begun moving.

The elder allowed the cubs to remain near the territory marker for several moments before continuing deeper along the patrol route. The journey itself had become another lesson.

Every fallen tree, every claw mark carved into ancient bark, and every scent left upon the rocks told a story that only experienced hunters could truly understand.

Ash followed closely behind, his sapphire-blue eyes constantly moving from one detail to another, unwilling to overlook even the smallest clue hidden beneath the endless blanket of snow.

The guardian wolves quietly exchanged approving glances.

Unlike the other cubs, who occasionally became distracted by drifting snowflakes or chased one another through the fresh powder, Ash never allowed curiosity to overcome caution.

He observed first, acted second, and spoke only when necessary. His calm nature was unusual for a wolf of his age.

As the patrol reached a frozen stream, the young female guardian slowed her pace until she walked beside Ash.

She noticed that while the other cubs were excitedly jumping across the ice, Ash had stopped to watch the movement of the water flowing beneath the frozen surface.

"You always look so serious," she said through a series of gentle growls that Ash now understood perfectly.

Ash looked at her for a moment before replying honestly.

"I’m just trying to understand this world."

The young guardian laughed softly.

"The world won’t disappear if you stop studying it for a few moments."

Ash blinked.

She nudged him playfully with her shoulder before pointing toward the other cubs tumbling through the snow.

"They’re making memories."

"You keep collecting questions."

Ash couldn’t help smiling.

During his previous life, responsibility had filled nearly every day. Study, work, deadlines, and worries had consumed most of his time. Even after reincarnating, survival had become his only focus.

Perhaps...

He had forgotten what it meant to simply enjoy living.

The young guardian wagged her tail gently.

"If you never play..."

"You’ll miss your childhood."

Her words lingered within Ash’s mind.

After a brief hesitation, he slowly walked toward his siblings.

His energetic brother immediately tackled him into a pile of soft snow.

The impact surprised him so much that he instinctively rolled several times before both cubs tumbled down the gentle slope together.

His sleepy sister watched the scene with amused eyes while the curious cub happily joined them, sending snow flying in every direction.

For the first time since arriving in Aethelgard...

Ash laughed.

Not because of victory.

Not because of strength.

Simply because he was happy.

The young guardian watched from nearby with a satisfied smile.

"That’s better," she whispered quietly.

The elder allowed the cubs a few more moments before gathering them once again.

"Remember today’s lesson," he growled calmly.

"The wilderness belongs neither to the strongest nor the fastest."

"It belongs to those who understand it."

Ash silently engraved those words within his heart.

As the sun slowly descended behind the Frostfang Mountains, long shadows stretched across Blackfang Forest. The peaceful atmosphere gradually gave way to the quiet stillness that always accompanied the arrival of evening.

Unknown to the cubs...

A meeting had already begun within the deepest chamber of the Crystal Cave.

The Alpha stood before several elders, scouts, and veteran hunters.

No mothers.

No cubs.

Only those responsible for protecting the future of Blackfang.

A scout stepped forward.

"We searched the northern border."

"What did you find?" the Alpha asked calmly.

The scout lowered his head.

"Less prey."

The Alpha’s expression remained unchanged.

"And?"

"There are unfamiliar scents."

Another scout continued.

"Large footprints."

"They disappear before reaching our patrol routes."

"They’re avoiding direct contact."

Silence filled the chamber.

Every experienced wolf immediately understood what those words implied.

Predators wandering carelessly left obvious trails.

Only disciplined hunters concealed their movements.

The Alpha slowly closed his eyes.

"They’ve arrived."

No one needed to ask who.

The Ice Bears.

The death of their warrior had not been forgotten.

The elders exchanged uneasy glances.

One elder finally spoke.

"Should we strike first?"

The Alpha slowly shook his head.

"No."

"They’re watching."

"If we chase shadows..."

"We’ll expose ourselves."

He turned toward the gathered hunters.

"Double every patrol."

The hunters nodded.

"Move the mothers and cubs deeper into the Crystal Cave."

Another nod.

"Gather additional food while prey still remains."

The chamber fell completely silent.

Finally, the Alpha lifted his gaze toward the distant north.

"Prepare for winter."

Everyone understood those words carried another meaning.

Prepare for war.

When the meeting ended, every wolf quietly left to fulfill their duties.

Only the Alpha remained.

He walked alone toward the familiar stone overlooking Blackfang Forest.

The freezing wind blew through his scarred white fur as he gazed toward the northern mountains hidden beneath darkness.

He already knew something the younger wolves did not.

He might not survive the coming battle.

That possibility no longer frightened him.

Every Alpha eventually reached the day when another would take his place.

What truly mattered...

Was ensuring Blackfang endured after he was gone.

Far beyond the mountains...

Crimson eyes stared back toward the forest.

The Ice Bear Chieftain stood upon a frozen cliff overlooking the distant valley.

Several scouts returned before lowering their massive heads.

"The wolves have increased their patrols."

The Chieftain’s deep growl echoed across the frozen plains.

"So..."

"They noticed."

A cruel smile seemed to form upon the enormous predator’s face.

"Good."

"Fear makes prey predictable."

He slowly turned toward the dozens of Ice Bears gathered behind him.

"Wait."

"When winter reaches its coldest..."

"We hunt."

That night, Blackfang Forest appeared peaceful.

Snowflakes drifted gently from the heavens.

The Crystal Cave remained warm.

Families slept peacefully beside one another.

Yet beneath that fragile peace...

Danger steadily approached.

Ash suddenly opened his eyes.

His heart pounded without reason.

No nightmare had awakened him.

No sound echoed through the cave.

Yet every instinct within his body screamed.

Danger.

He quietly stood before carefully walking toward the cave entrance.

The night air felt colder than usual.

The forest stood completely silent.

Then...

A distant roar echoed across the Frostfang Mountains.

It was incredibly faint.

So faint that even most adult wolves failed to react.

Yet Ash heard it clearly.

It wasn’t the roar itself that unsettled him.

It was the hatred carried within it.

Before he could gather his thoughts, the familiar blue screen appeared before his eyes.

Unlike previous notifications...

This one glowed with an unsettling crimson border.

Warning

Host has entered the range of the First Great Crisis.

Countdown Until Crisis: 30 Days

Survive to unlock the Mythic Bloodline Seed.

The screen remained for only a few moments before quietly disappearing into the darkness.

Ash remained frozen.

Thirty days.

Whatever was approaching...

Even the system considered it his first true trial.

He slowly looked toward the endless northern darkness beyond Blackfang Forest.

The mountains remained silent.

The snow continued falling peacefully.

Nothing seemed different.

Yet Ash now understood.

Sometimes...

The greatest danger was the one that could not yet be seen.

A cold wind swept across the mountain, carrying with it the scent of snow, blood... and the distant promise of war.

To be continued....
