As soon as Bai Yang returned to the hotel, she immediately slipped into her space.
Seeing that the seeds she had planted only that afternoon had already sprouted and grown considerably, Bai Yang calculated the time. From planting to sprouting, only five hours had passed outside the space.
In an instant, Bai Yang felt as though she had discovered a secret to getting rich. Her eyes remained fixed on the untouched soil in the space, and she suddenly felt as if she had an endless supply of energy.
“I’ve decided. Why should I sleep tonight? I’m going to plant all the seeds I bought!”
Unable to resist the sight of the thriving crops any longer, she picked up the hoe beside her and began turning the soil, digging holes, and burying seeds. She was like a robot born specifically for farming, completely unaware of fatigue.
As time passed inside the space, the number of seeds Bai Yang planted continued to increase, while the ones she had planted earlier had already begun to sprout.
Bai Yang eventually raised her head in a daze, only to be somewhat stunned by the vast stretch of land she had cultivated. Before she realized it, only half of the seeds she had bought remained.
Looking at the soil where the seeds had already been planted, Bai Yang finally felt a sense of satisfaction. She put down the hoe and then slipped out of the space.
After leaving the space, Bai Yang looked through the window at the fully brightened sky outside and finally realized that she had spent the entire night inside the space.
Perhaps it was because she had been in the space, but despite farming all night, Bai Yang did not feel particularly tired. Instead, she felt surprisingly refreshed.
After taking a shower, Bai Yang tidied herself up. The marks on her body had faded considerably after a day, but they were still quite frightening to look at.
With no other choice, Bai Yang once again used concealer to cover the marks little by little.
After leaving the hotel, Bai Yang went to a nearby breakfast shop and had something to eat. Just then, the manager of the clothing factory called her and told her that all the clothes had been delivered to the eastern outskirts.
Bai Yang had already planned to head to the eastern outskirts after breakfast, so the manager’s call had come at exactly the right time.
The eastern outskirts of H City were nothing more than an empty stretch of land. When Bai Yang arrived by taxi, the clothes had just been delivered as well. After the clothing factory manager left with his workers, Bai Yang waved her hand and stored the mountain of clothes into her space.
Thinking that the train ride from H City to Q City would take an entire night, Bai Yang immediately decided to return to the hotel, collect her luggage, and head home.
Spending an entire day on the train was quite torturous for Bai Yang.
After getting off the train, Bai Yang did not go directly home. Instead, using the excuse that she was opening a chain of supermarkets, she rented three large warehouses in a relatively remote area of Q City. She then hired six bodyguards, paid them a month’s wages in advance, and asked them to help count the supplies she would purchase later and guard the warehouses.
After taking care of all this, Bai Yang checked the balance on her phone once more, then took a taxi home with an excited heart.
Dragging her suitcase, Bai Yang stood downstairs from her apartment and spent a long time mentally preparing herself. After losing her family in her previous life, she could not guarantee that she would be able to control her emotions when she saw her father and mother again.
Just as Bai Yang took a deep breath and was about to step forward, a voice suddenly came from behind her, making all the hair on her body stand on end.
“Qingqing? You’re back?”
Bai Yang turned around and saw a man standing beneath the shade of a tree. He was dressed in a white shirt, with a pair of silver framed glasses perched on his high nose, and the corners of his lips were slightly raised.
Perhaps because the man did not smile often, Bai Yang found his smile somewhat stiff. A fleeting hint of amusement appeared in his eyes behind the lenses.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves and fell upon the man, making Bai Yang suddenly feel that perhaps angels really did exist in this world.
Seeing Bai Yang standing there in a daze, Bai Heyu chuckled softly. He had not missed the fleeting look of amazement in her eyes, and the amusement in his own eyes deepened.
“It’s only been two years since we last saw each other. Have you really forgotten who I am already?”
Hearing the teasing in Bai Heyu’s voice, Bai Yang awkwardly came back to her senses.
“Brother, why are you here?”
To Bai Heyu, only two years had passed since they last saw each other, but to Bai Yang, an entire century seemed to separate them.
Bai Heyu walked over and naturally took the suitcase from Bai Yang with his left hand. The fingertips of his right hand, hanging at his side, had turned pale and trembled slightly.
“Come on. I’ll carry your suitcase upstairs. Mom and Dad know you’re coming back, so they’re probably getting impatient waiting for you.”
“Oh, okay.”
Bai Yang followed Bai Heyu into the elevator somewhat dazedly. Looking at his tall, straight figure, she inexplicably recalled the chaotic night two days ago.
Realizing that her face was growing warm, Bai Yang immediately shook her head, trying to throw all those useless thoughts out of her mind.
Seeing Bai Yang keep her head lowered, Bai Heyu pursed his lips and tried to find something to talk about.
“Qingqing, are you still wearing the jade pendant I gave you?”
“The jade pendant!”
When Bai Heyu mentioned the jade pendant, Bai Yang could not help thinking that he really was the world’s best older brother. Of all the things she could be afraid of, this was exactly what she had been dreading.
After remaining silent for a long while, Bai Yang still could not come up with a good explanation for the missing jade pendant. In the end, she forced out an awkward smile.
“Brother, I’m sorry. I accidentally broke the jade pendant you gave me.”
“It broke?”
Hearing that the jade pendant had broken, Bai Heyu’s expression became somewhat unpleasant. He had specifically asked a master at the Jade Buddha Temple to bless the jade pendant he had given Qingqing. It was meant to keep her safe. If the jade pendant broke, it meant that something had happened to its owner.
Seeing Bai Heyu’s expression grow increasingly grim, Bai Yang could not help becoming nervous.
When Bai Heyu caught sight of the cautious, uneasy expression on Bai Yang’s face from the corner of his eye, it felt as though someone had stabbed his heart. Even breathing seemed painful.
“Qingqing, I’m not blaming you. It’s just that the jade pendant was blessed to protect you. If it broke, then what about you? Are you all right?”
“That jade pendant was meant to protect me?”
Bai Yang felt her breathing grow faint for a moment, and tears immediately filled her eyes.
“Brother, are you saying that the jade pendant was meant to protect me?”
Bai Yang’s voice trembled with tears. She seemed to finally understand why she had been reborn after dying, and why the jade pendant had broken and eventually disappeared after she was reborn.
It was because someone had been protecting her through that jade pendant all along.
“Qingqing, don’t cry. I’ll give you another one after the jade pendant breaks.”
Seeing Bai Yang’s eyes turn completely red as tears streamed down her face, Bai Heyu felt as though his heart were breaking from the pain.
“Good girl, don’t cry. It’s only a jade pendant. I still have more here.”
Bai Heyu bent down and reached out, intending to wipe away her tears with his fingertip, but at that moment, the elevator stopped and the doors opened.
Bai Yang’s father was standing outside the elevator, his expression dark.
“What are you two doing?”
The furious shout made Bai Yang flinch, and Bai Heyu’s fingertip trembled as well, his finger accidentally brushing against Bai Yang’s flushed earlobe.
When Bai Yang saw her father standing outside the elevator, her tears began falling even harder. She immediately rushed forward and threw her arms around him.
“Dad!”
Seeing how heartbroken Bai Yang looked, the anger on her father’s face faded somewhat. He gave Bai Heyu, who was still standing dazedly inside the elevator, a warning look, then immediately asked what had happened before taking Bai Yang into the apartment.
