“Adai, are you just going to hold your big sister?”
“Or… don’t you want to get to know me a little more intimately?”
The man looked at the woman in his arms, confusion written across his face.
Hadn’t I been accidentally killed during a disturbance over medical treatment?
In the next instant, a flood of unfamiliar memories poured into his mind.
After briefly sorting through them, he realized he had been reborn in 1957, taking over the body of a fool named Li Wu.
The original owner of this body might have been a fool, but only because someone had deliberately injured his brain when he was very young.
Fortunately, Li Wu’s mother and younger sister loved him dearly. Three days ago, they had even exchanged the last of the family’s grain to get him a wife.
The trouble was, Li Wu was a fool and knew nothing about what happened on the wedding night.
By contrast, the pretty widow in his arms…
Was an absolute expert.
The pretty widow’s eyes were sultry, and even her voice carried a tempting lilt.
There were several widows in Shuijing Village, but the one in his arms, Ma Guilan, was the prettiest.
“H-how do we get to know each other more intimately?” Li Wu asked instinctively.
His mind was a muddle, and he couldn’t tell whether what was happening was real or not.
Just then, Li Wu remembered something he had once read about history.
It was 1957. Did that mean there was only one year left before the era of the Great Famine?
If he stayed tucked away in these mountain valleys until then, wouldn’t he starve to death?
“Hmph. You’re married, aren’t you, you blockhead? Do I really have to spell it out for you?”
As she spoke, Ma Guilan wrapped both arms around Li Wu’s neck and turned, pinning him beneath her.
Before Li Wu could react, she had already kissed him.
Li Wu stared, at a loss. He never would have expected the widow rumored to be the most virtuous woman for miles around to be such a hypocritical slut…
After a long while, Ma Guilan finally lifted her head and pursed her lips. “Adai, remember what I told you. Don’t go home and blab about this, okay?”
“If anyone finds out what happened today, I won’t keep you company or let you enjoy the pleasures of being a man anymore!”
Ma Guilan couldn’t bear the loneliness, but deep down she was also genuinely afraid that this fool would go around telling everyone about the two of them.
Then again, how many people would believe what a fool said?
Li Wu met her gaze. Ma Guilan’s pretty face was flushed, her little mouth slightly open, as if inviting him to make the next move.
Who could resist a woman making herself so completely available?
He was going to have her. Nothing could stop him—not even Jesus.
“Adai, what’s wrong?” Ma Guilan asked, puzzled. “Did you hear what I said?”
“Mm, I heard you. I definitely won’t tell anyone!” Li Wu nodded, then grinned. “You’re so pretty, Big Sister!”
“Hee-hee, you sure know how to talk, you blockhead!”
Ma Guilan chuckled and reached out to give Li Wu’s nose a playful scrape with her finger.
“Hm?”
Suddenly, Ma Guilan seemed to feel something and stared at him in surprise.
But she soon relaxed. Fool or not, he was still a man. It seemed this sort of thing came naturally to them.
Just as Li Wu was about to make his next move, the birds in the woods suddenly scattered in alarm.
Li Wu stopped what he was doing and pricked up his ears, listening carefully to the sounds around them.
Ma Guilan, meanwhile, tilted her head back, her mouth open as she breathed greedily and rapidly.
She was clearly waiting for Li Wu to make his next move.
“W-what is it?”
“Why did you stop?”
Ma Guilan panted out the questions, burning with impatience.
Li Wu ignored her.
He had just realized his hearing was exceptionally sharp. He could make out the sounds within a hundred meters, more or less.
Hm?
Was that…
Footsteps?
Li Wu suddenly grew alert and looked toward the three o’clock position.
Someone was coming!
The thought made him tense up.
If anyone caught him and Ma Guilan like this, the news would spread throughout Shuijing Village.
Then neither of them would have a moment’s peace.
At once, Li Wu scooped Ma Guilan up in his arms.
She wrapped her legs around his waist and asked nervously, “Blockhead, wh-what are you doing?”
Li Wu frowned. “Sis, we need to go somewhere else!”
“You…”
Ma Guilan started to say something, but Li Wu was already running at full speed with her in his arms.
As they ran, Ma Guilan was astonished by what Li Wu was doing.
Even through their clothes, the friction as he ran stirred waves of sensation within her.
Just as she could hardly wait for Li Wu to put her down and get back to business, she faintly heard a gunshot from behind them.
“S-someone’s here?”
Ma Guilan tensed. She knew that people sometimes went hunting in the hills behind Shuijing Village.
The sound of the gun was probably from someone who had gone hunting and spotted game.
“Don’t worry, Sis. I’m here. I’ll keep you safe!”
Li Wu replied, carrying Ma Guilan as he ran for more than ten minutes until they reached a stream.
A moment later, Li Wu set Ma Guilan down on a large rock, panting hard.
“T-they probably haven’t followed us!”
“Sis, go down the mountain along the stream in a little while. We’ll go our separate ways!”
Ma Guilan’s heart trembled. “Y-you blockhead…”
“If you knew someone was coming, why didn’t you put me down earlier so I could run with you? Carrying me must be exhausting.”
“It’s not!” Li Wu scratched his head and smiled. “I know this place well. There are lots of raised tree roots hidden under the dead leaves. If you ran without watching where you were going, I was afraid you’d trip and hurt yourself.”
Ma Guilan’s heart trembled at his words.
She suddenly wrapped her arms around Li Wu’s head.
“You blockhead!”
Ma Guilan’s voice shook, and tears glimmered in her eyes.
She had become a widow in the second year of her marriage. Many people treated her as a bringer of bad luck, and anyone who was kind to her only wanted her body.
But this fool wasn’t scheming like that. He had only wanted to protect her.
Such thoughtful care was enough to melt her heart.
“Sis, y-you’re smothering me…”
Good grief, Li Wu could barely breathe.
Ma Guilan let go. Meeting Li Wu’s eyes, she kissed him tenderly, without a trace of lust.
Then she cupped his face and said softly, “Blockhead, come find me tonight. I’ll leave the door open for you. From now on, whenever you want, I’ll take good care of you.”
With that, Ma Guilan stood and glanced around. Then she turned back, gave Li Wu a radiant smile, and left along the stream.
