While they waited for the ambulance, Doctor Qiao carefully wrote down some instructions for caring for frostbite and drowning victims, explaining each point to Qin Yuan.

But Qin Yuan could barely listen for more than a few sentences before anxiety drove her outside to check whether the ambulance had arrived.

If no vehicle came, they still had no way to save him. There was no point talking about follow-up care yet.Full novel: Reborn in the 1970s: Refusing to Be a Widow-in-Waiting, She Turns Around and Marries into a Wealthy Family — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

By the tenth time she went outside to look, a clear siren suddenly sounded in the distance, growing louder and louder as it approached.

Qin Yuan’s heart leaped into her throat.

In her previous life, she had spent nearly all her time in the countryside and had rarely heard an ambulance siren. Afraid that the vehicle might not be coming for her savior, she quickly grabbed Doctor Qiao’s arm.

“It’s here, right? That’s the ambulance, isn’t it?”

Doctor Qiao nodded solemnly.

“Yes, yes! That’s definitely the ambulance! Listen, it’s going ‘ow-ow-ow-ow’ like it’s crying out in pain. That’s what ambulances sound like!”

Tears of excitement filled Qin Yuan’s eyes, but Doctor Qiao’s down-to-earth description made her burst out laughing.

A huge snot bubble even popped from her nose.

Embarrassed yet overjoyed, she nearly burst into tears.

Finally!

Her savior could be saved!

On the very first day after waking up in this life, everything was already different!

Seeing her reaction, Doctor Qiao immediately ran outside to guide the ambulance toward the clinic.

A female nurse climbed out of the vehicle and looked toward the clinic, her voice both proud and professional.

“Sun Yulin? Is this the ambulance requested by Sun Yulin’s family? Hurry! His family member needs to come over and sign. Once you’ve signed, we leave immediately!”

Qin Yuan felt as though she were carrying out some sacred mission.

With heavy yet determined steps, she walked over and solemnly wrote the three characters—

“Sun Yulin.”

The nurse glanced at the signature.

Apparently, she had seen plenty of situations like this before and didn’t ask Qin Yuan to write down her own name.

She had passed another hurdle.

Two medical workers carried a stretcher into the clinic and carefully transferred the still-unconscious young man into the ambulance.

The moment he was inside, Qin Yuan was about to climb in after him when several people suddenly hurried down the path leading to the clinic.

They were all wearing the forest farm’s standard work uniforms, with red armbands around their sleeves.

The words “Public Security” stood out prominently.

The man leading them had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. The moment he arrived, he planted his hands on his hips and questioned Doctor Qiao.

“Hey, Old Qiao, what are you doing? Who called this ambulance? Who’s it for? We received a report saying the man our forest farm rescued is a vagrant! We need to detain him for investigation. Don’t tell me you called an ambulance for a vagrant?”

Qin Yuan, who had already reached the front of the ambulance, felt her heart sink.

Of course.

The very thing she had feared had happened!

Someone reported him?

Fan Jianshe had to be behind this.

He was the only person who had mentioned anything about her savior being a “vagrant.” No one else would have even thought of such a thing!

That bastard!

If these people dared stop them, she would fight them with everything she had!

But Doctor Qiao, who could practically be called a genius scriptwriter, truly was her lucky star.

Qin Yuan didn’t even need to say anything.

His performance had already begun.

Doctor Qiao forcefully pushed the security officer’s arm aside and proudly pointed at the ambulance.

“Look carefully, Chang Ming! Open your eyes and look! That’s an ambulance! Has our forest farm ever had an ambulance come here before? You think I have the ability to summon one?

“And you’re calling him a vagrant? Have you lost your mind? If he were a vagrant, how could he possibly get an ambulance sent all the way here? Dream on! Even you, the captain of the security team, couldn’t get one to come!

“And now you’re standing here shouting at me like you’re somebody important!

“Let me tell you something. The man inside is the young master of an important family from the county town! The greatest hardship a rich young master like him has ever suffered is heartbreak. He got into an argument with his girlfriend, ran away from home, came all the way out here, and tried to drown himself over love! Luckily, our forest farm rescued him.

“Then his family made one phone call, and look! The ambulance came immediately!

“If you don’t believe me, ask the medical staff yourself! Ask whether they have authorization and paperwork! You fool, you don’t even know an ambulance requires official approval before it can be dispatched. What did you think it was, one of our forest farm’s handcarts that anyone can drag around whenever they feel like it?”

After being simultaneously mocked and overwhelmed by Doctor Qiao’s impressive story, Security Captain Chang Ming no longer dared act arrogantly.

He quickly approached the medical worker in charge and politely asked about the situation.

Meanwhile, Doctor Qiao’s flattering words had inflated the medical worker’s pride so much that the man immediately put on an impressive air of authority.

He barely acknowledged Chang Ming’s polite questions.

Rolling his eyes, he casually slapped the approval slip in front of him.

“Read it yourself. Take your time! This was personally approved by Director Ma of the County First People’s Hospital! If you dare delay the patient’s treatment, you can explain yourself to Director Ma!”

Well, would you look at that?

Chang Ming only dared to glance quickly at the name on the approval slip before respectfully returning it with both hands.

He immediately put on an apologetic smile.

“Ah… misunderstanding. It was all a misunderstanding! We only came because someone reported him, so we had to follow procedure. Sorry about that!”

He turned toward his men.

“You lot! Hurry to the main gate and open it wide. Make sure the ambulance gets through without any trouble!”

The ambulance soon started moving.

The medical workers had already told Qin Yuan that, as the patient’s “family member,” she was allowed to ride along, so she had already settled into the front passenger seat.

The ambulance left the forest farm with its siren blaring almost triumphantly.

As they passed through the main gate, Qin Yuan clearly saw Public Security Director Fan Jianshe standing inside the guardhouse, craning his neck to look outside.

So it really was that weasel!

Just wait.

Sooner or later, she would find an opportunity to deal with all of them!

The forest farm was enormous. Nearly ten minutes after the ambulance departed, Chang Ming finally returned to the guardhouse with several members of the security team.

The moment he saw Fan Jianshe, Chang Ming glared at him irritably.

“Hey, Old Fan! You tricked me! What vagrant? The man has a proper name, he’s from the county town, and his family is influential enough to send an ambulance all the way here to pick him up! Where the hell did you hear that the man rescued from the river was some vagrant? You made me waste my time running all the way over there!”

Fan Jianshe had only made the accusation because he wanted to show off his influence by helping Hu Yinglian.

He had merely guessed.

Now that Chang Ming said the rescued man was a properly identified city resident, Fan Jianshe immediately smiled apologetically.

“Oh, come on, I only reported what someone else told me. They went to the forest farm clinic and noticed that the man didn’t even have a padded coat. In the middle of winter! I figured only a vagrant running around in desperation would end up falling into the river like that. Wasn’t that reasonable?”

“Of course not!”

Chang Ming was furious.

“They said he’s some rich young master from the county town. His family is so well-off that the poor fool couldn’t even handle the hardships of romance! He came running out here crying after some trouble with his girlfriend and jumped into the river. Then the moment he woke up, he regretted everything and called his family to send an ambulance for him!

“Damn it! You even got me scolded by the director of the county hospital! Don’t bring me this kind of unverified nonsense again! You think I’m as idle as people in your production team? Ridiculous!”

Chang Ming felt that he had thoroughly embarrassed himself today.

So even though it had actually been a nurse who had scolded him, he upgraded her to the hospital director to make the whole incident sound more impressive.

After casually promoting the nurse several ranks, he no longer had any interest in talking to Fan Jianshe.

He turned around and headed back to his security team.

After being berated like that, Fan Jianshe felt humiliated as well.

He stormed away angrily and hurried straight to Hu Yinglian to report what had happened.

Of course, he wanted to make it sound as though he had not only helped her but had nearly offended someone important in the process, proving just how much effort he had put into the matter.

So when he reached Hu Yinglian, he told her,

“Third Sister, I investigated everything for you. The man rescued by the forest farm is called Sun Yulin. He’s the son of the director of a hospital in the county town! An ambulance has already come and taken him away!”

Today’s Little Theater

Qin Yuan: I said I was going to save someone, and somehow the rumor became that I wanted him.

Then “I wanted him” became “I was desperate for a man.”

Then “I was desperate for a man” became “I was getting married.”

The whole village heard I was getting married, so Doctor Qiao came over to ask who the groom was.

Then Hu Yinglian showed up at my door asking whether my groom was that man from the city.

I was so angry I laughed.

I was just trying to save my savior! How did that turn into me wanting to marry him?!

Little Wangwang was so anxious he practically recovered on the spot:

“Rumors stop with the wise… but surely they can stop once they reach the part where she’s getting married, right?!”
