That evening, Lu Jiansen helped his in-laws clean up and pack supplies for the journey. He had secured two train tickets for the next morning to the Northern Military Region.
Gu Xiaoxi packed her luggage, using her space to discreetly store essential items while packing two sturdy travel bags for the trip.
She also secretly tucked a package containing four sets of new clothes, fabric, and 1,000 yuan in cash into her parents’ bedding, leaving a sweet note expressing her gratitude.
Her parents handed her 600 yuan in savings and official coupons, ensuring she would have plenty of resources upon arriving at the base.
Lu Jiansen held her hand gently as they rested for the night, whispering, “Tomorrow, we head home together.”
