“Comrade officer, you’ve got the wrong person. It wasn’t me, really not me!” Qiao Shanshan still tried to argue.

“Whether it was you or not, come with us to the station first.”

Qiao Shanshan was restrained and taken outside.Full novel: Reborn in the ’70s: I Refused the Professor and Married the Officer — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Yang Huaiyuan was tossed out like a chick, completely unable to resist.

There was no denying that Yang Huaiyuan was good-looking. Aside from that face, he had nothing remarkable—cowardly by nature, bad-tempered, and quick to beat his wife. To outsiders, he appeared gentle and refined.

Only Qiao Wanyue knew what kind of demon hid behind that pretty face.

By day, he bowed and scraped to everyone; by night, he exerted his authority over her.

Now that Qiao Shanshan had taken him, Qiao Wanyue was actually pleased.

In her previous life, if Qiao Shanshan had openly said she wanted to marry Yang Huaiyuan, Qiao Wanyue would have set off firecrackers to celebrate—and even given her part of the family property, just to celebrate escaping that hell.

An adulterous pair.

May they stay bound together forever in this life.

Qiao Wanyue stepped forward, covering her mouth in feigned shock. “Shanshan, what’s going on?”

Seeing her was like seeing a savior. Qiao Shanshan dropped to the ground and clutched Qiao Wanyue’s leg. “Sister, explain it to them! You gave me the job—I didn’t take Director Li’s daughter’s job, I didn’t!”

Qiao Wanyue widened her eyes. “What job? Shanshan, are you confused? I never gave you any job.”

Qiao Shanshan wanted nothing more than to slap her, but now wasn’t the time. She forced herself to speak patiently, “Sister, tell them clearly—you gave me the job. I didn’t take Director Li’s daughter’s position.”

She glared at Qiao Wanyue and lowered her voice so only the two of them could hear. “If you don’t help me, Mom and Dad will beat you to death when we get back.”

Qiao Wanyue curled her lips.

Bang—

She lifted her foot and kicked Qiao Shanshan hard in the head.

Then she hurriedly hid behind the police. “Officer, she said if I don’t help her, she’ll have our parents beat me to death.”

“I’m so scared.”

Qiao Wanyue shrank behind them. Among the officers was a middle-aged woman who, seeing Qiao Shanshan openly bullying her, grew furious. “You tricked your sister into signing documents and now you’re accusing her? A bad element like you slipping through the cracks—unbelievable.”

“Don’t be afraid, we’ll protect you,” the policewoman said, shielding her like a chick.

“You’re all in this together! That job is mine—why won’t you give it to me?” Qiao Shanshan shouted.

Qiao Wanyue looked confused. “What job?”

The officer explained kindly, “A technician position at the textile factory. This young woman insists the job belongs to her, but Director Li’s daughter is starting work tomorrow. She made a scene at the factory, accusing Director Li of favoritism, which alerted the security department.

Director Li was taken in for investigation, and it turned out she was making baseless accusations. She still refused to stop and wanted to report him, so he had no choice but to call us.”

Director Li was Li Shan.

Originally the deputy director, he became a strong candidate for the director position after the former director stepped down.

Qiao Wanyue widened her eyes. “But I sold that job to Xiuxiu.”

The moment she said this, everyone froze.

Especially Yang Aijiao.

“What did you say?!”

She lunged at Qiao Wanyue like a madwoman.

She had caused such a huge scene—even dragged in the political department director—just to bring Li Shan down.

And now this—

Qiao Wanyue blinked innocently. “I sold the job to Director Li. The paperwork is already signed. Xiuxiu can start work this afternoon.”

Qiao Wanyue had obtained the job through public recruitment with a fixed start date. Because of her upcoming wedding, she had taken a few days off, but since she sold the job, Li Xiuxiu could begin immediately.

Director Li, fearing complications, had transferred his daughter’s employment records into the factory right after signing.

“Qiao Wanyue, what are you saying?” Qiao Shanshan stared at her in disbelief.

Qiao Wanyue shrugged. “I told you—I’d sell it to you for five thousand, but you didn’t want it. So I found someone else. By the way, what was that document you had me sign this morning? I forgot. I’m not even a formal employee—I probably couldn’t guarantee anything.”

“It didn’t delay your plans, did it, dear sister?”

She emphasized the words “dear sister.”

Qiao Shanshan’s vision went black.

She did it on purpose.

She deliberately let her go to the factory and make a fool of herself.

This was revenge.

“Qiao Wanyue, Mom and Dad won’t let you off!”

Qiao Wanyue asked calmly, “What was that document you had me sign this morning?”

Qiao Shanshan turned her head away, refusing to answer.

The officer said, “A job transfer agreement. You’re also involved in a double transfer attempt, but Director Li chose not to pursue it since you’re illiterate. However, Qiao Shanshan caused a disturbance at the textile factory and will be punished.”

Qiao Wanyue crouched in front of Qiao Shanshan.

With a mocking tone, she said, “Dear sister?”

Spit—

She spat directly onto Qiao Shanshan’s face.

“Are you worthy?”

Qiao Shanshan lunged at her like a madwoman, but the officers restrained her tightly.

“Comrade Yang, come with us as well,” the police said, taking Yang Huaiyuan in for questioning.

Yang Huaiyuan immediately said, “Comrade, this has nothing to do with me.”

Qiao Shanshan froze.

She stared at him in shock.

She hadn’t expected much affection from him, but everything she did was for the Yang family.

And now he was distancing himself completely?

Yang Huaiyuan bit his lip. “Shanshan, I’m sorry.”

Yang Aijiao rushed forward. “It’s all her fault! Why are you apologizing? It’s all this woman!”

She had even lost her job because of this.

She wanted to strangle her.

The officers rubbed their aching temples.

“Take them all away.”

Yang Huaiyuan, Yang Aijiao, and Qiao Shanshan were all taken away.

Zhou Wenwen stood nearby, terrified out of her wits.

She had no idea how things had ended up like this again.

Where had it all gone wrong?

After they were taken away, Li Xiuxiu came out from the residential compound and went straight to the Li family home.

Only then did Qiao Wanyue notice that both Li Shan and Wang Qi were present.

“Congratulations, Uncle Li,” Qiao Wanyue said. “I came in a hurry and didn’t bring a gift. I’ll make it up next time.”

Li Shan spoke with barely concealed excitement, “No need for gifts. Come visit when you have time.”

His joy was obvious.

He had endured twenty years in the deputy position, finally outlasting the former director—only for a political department head to be parachuted in as a successor.

How could he accept that?

The two factions had been fighting fiercely.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so cautious even about arranging a position for his daughter.
