After Fang Yi left, Ji You walked through the main gate toward the office building, feeling relaxed and cheerful.

In her previous life she had been forced to change careers and felt lost about what she could do. Later she became an editor at a street stall magazine. After two years she decided it would be better to focus on a field with a higher level of specialization, so she chose financial journalism.

At first she only managed to enter a financial magazine that was on the verge of shutting down. The professional terminology and related knowledge were extremely difficult, so she had to start learning from scratch. There was a lot she could not understand and could not even read clearly. The hardship could easily be imagined. Only after much effort did she finally gain a foothold in the financial news field.Full novel: Reborn in the ’80s: The Supporting Female Character Is Pregnant with the Big Shot’s Child — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

If she could choose, she still preferred to be a broadcaster rather than a financial reporter editor.

Living again felt like an opportunity given by heaven, so she naturally wanted to return to her old profession as a broadcaster.

Before becoming pregnant her work included morning news broadcasts and outside interviews. After pregnancy the interviews were canceled and replaced with recording advertisements and similar tasks. These were very easy for her. By noon when others without work went home or ate at the cafeteria, Ji You had already finished her day’s work. She did not need to work in the afternoon and could go home to rest.

Although she woke early in the morning, she could rest in the afternoon.

When Ji You returned home, Zhang Guilan was already cooking. Seeing her, Zhang Guilan asked, “There is a fish seller on the street. He came from the mountain valley and caught them himself. They look very fresh. Do you want to eat some?”

Ji You felt nauseated the moment she thought about meat. “I don’t want to eat it.”

Zhang Guilan suggested, “You can try a little and force it down. Otherwise the nutrition will not be enough. Look how thin you are. With such loose clothes most people cannot even tell you are pregnant.”

Ji You said, “I really don’t want meat at all.”

Zhang Guilan sighed. “Then forget it. We will eat vegetarian food. I will fry tofu balls for you. You can eat that, right?”

“I should be able to,” Ji You replied.

When Fang Yi returned he brought a bag of cakes. He handed Ji You a piece. “Fresh from the food store. Still warm. Try it.”

Ji You took a bite. Soft and sweet. “It’s delicious.”

Zhang Guilan muttered unhappily, “Lunch is coming and you let her eat cake.”

Fang Yi said casually, “Ji You can eat whatever she wants.”

He lifted the net bag in his hand. “If you get hungry just eat a few bites. Don’t go hungry.”

Ji You nodded. “Okay.”

It was another light meal. After lunch Fang Yi had to go back to work and reminded Ji You, “Rest well at home.”

She nodded again.

After mother and son left, Ji You took a nap. When she woke up she walked downstairs while basking in the sun, then returned home to read.

At night the young couple sat at the table in the outer room, each busy with their own matters.

Ji You was writing letters, preparing to report the black clinic using the information she possessed. Of course in this life she had not investigated it. The information came from her previous life.

She would not let the clinic that caused her infertility and frailty go unpunished. She also wanted to prevent more victims. Besides, as a media worker, even though her radio station rarely conducted public opinion supervision, she felt it was necessary.

She planned to anonymously write to the health department, public security bureau, family planning office, and industry and commerce administration first to see if it would work.

“Why don’t you rest earlier?” Fang Yi suggested.

“It’s only a little past seven. I slept at noon so I’m energetic. Sleeping at nine is fine,” Ji You said.

Fang Yi glanced at the densely written manuscript paper. “You’re writing a letter?”

Ji You was writing quickly with a fountain pen. Hearing the words writing a letter spoken with a slightly heavier tone, she suddenly raised her head and examined Fang Yi’s expression. Their gazes met in midair.

His face carried an indescribable look. Ji You said, “I am writing a letter. What about it?”

“To whom?” Fang Yi asked as casually as possible.

Ji You lifted her delicate brows. “To you?”

Fang Yi fell silent. Facing her stare he looked away and lowered his head, picking up his pen to continue drawing.

Ji You capped her pen and propped her chin on her left hand, still watching him. He held his breath in concentration. His lowered brows and eyes looked calm and deep. Sure enough a man focused on work was attractive.

But Ji You’s brows slowly knit as she suddenly remembered something.

She used to write letters often to her former fiancé who had eloped with her cousin. He ran away at the engagement ceremony and humiliated her. Of course she would not let it go.

She wrote confession letters to him and sowed discord. His relationship with the cousin was not firm and he even entertained the idea of enjoying both women. That made Ji You intensify her teasing, writing to him frequently.

For example, the last letter she wrote before her abortion told him she would return to Binjiang City so they could reconcile.

Naturally she never intended to go back. She only wanted to toy with him.

In Ji You’s view this was not a problem. The problem was that on that Sunday she was off work and handed the letter to Fang Yi to mail for her.

At the time she thought Fang Yi was honest, kind, and slow witted. Mailing a letter was just a small favor.

She had underestimated Fang Yi. A man who could become wealthy could never truly be described as honest in that simple way.

Now Ji You suddenly wondered if Fang Yi had secretly read her letter. That day after work his gaze at her carried hidden meaning, yet she had not noticed.

Besides, at that time she did not care about Fang Yi’s thoughts. Even if he read it she would not have cared.

Once the idea appeared she recalled more clues to support it, strengthening her suspicion.

So if Fang Yi read it, did he think she planned to reconcile with that scumbag fiancé?

Then what image did she have in Fang Yi’s mind? A married woman always thinking of her former fiancé? Planning an abortion to return to him?

Her wife was about to run away and he could still stay emotionally steady?

She needed to find a way to test whether Fang Yi had read her letter.

Ji You was lost in thought but saw Fang Yi focused and asked, “Are you drawing blueprints?”

He nodded. “Yes.”

“Let me see.”

Fang Yi pushed a stack of drawings toward her. “Look.”

Ji You flipped through them page by page and said in surprise, “Is this an agricultural machine design? Can you draw such complex plans?”

Fang Yi leaned on the table, fingers interlocked, and gaze on the drawings. “You think I’m just a repair worker?”

Ji You asked back, “Aren’t you a repair worker? What else?”

His brows darkened and he pulled the corner of his mouth. “You look down on repair workers?”

Ji You raised her chin, expression bright and lively, voice sweet but provocative. “So what if I do?”

Fang Yi took back the drawings, aligned them neatly on the table, and said word by word, “I look up to broadcasters.”

His tone was equally provocative.

Ji You was speechless.

She truly misjudged Fang Yi. This man was not honest, not kind, and not slow.

For now she would not argue with him. She still had letters to write.

She finished one letter and copied three more, sealed them in envelopes, and planned to drop them into the mailbox tomorrow.

This took her the entire evening. Without delaying further she quickly went to bed.

The next afternoon around three a persuader came to the house, overestimating herself and believing she could convince Ji You to return to the right path, have an abortion, divorce, and go back to wherever she came from.

“Ji You are you home? I heard your broadcast this morning,” Xiao Yu said while knocking on the door.
