“Watch out behind you!” Seeing the Infected getting closer and closer, Sarah disregarded her own condition and hurriedly called out to warn Brian of the danger behind him.

But his reaction was faster than hers.

He spun around abruptly, extended his leg, and kicked hard at the leg of the Infected behind him.Full novel: Reborn in The Last of Us — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The sudden kick caused the Infected to lose its balance instantly and fall to the ground.

Brian immediately stepped on its back, pulled out his dagger, and plunged it into the Infected’s head, ending its life.

“This…” Looking at The Boy before her, who had become incredibly decisive, Sarah suddenly felt he was a complete stranger; she felt as if he had become a different person.

Pulling the dagger out, Brian stared at the fallen Infected.

He had seen the Infected behind him through the car window a long time ago, but now it seemed the individual threat of these monsters wasn’t as terrifying as he had imagined.

Turning his gaze back to Sarah, he noticed that a small patch of her right pant leg had been soaked with blood at some point.

Seeing this, he hurriedly asked: “Sarah, is your leg injured?” “Ah!” Sarah, who hadn’t felt much initially, was suddenly reminded by his words and realized her right leg was injured.

Pain immediately surged like a tide, and she let out an involuntary cry of pain.

Joel, who had just climbed out of the car, felt his heart sink upon hearing the news of his daughter’s leg injury.

Given the current situation, a leg injury was absolutely the most critical predicament.

“Can you still walk?” Quickly moving to Sarah’s side, Joel immediately helped his daughter up and asked if she could continue walking.

When he saw her shake her head, his heavy heart instantly plummeted to rock bottom.

Brian stood silently to the side, hesitating whether he should turn and leave now.

He felt he had already done the absolute most a neighbor and friend could do.

The Infected were getting closer, and their numbers would only increase.

Coupled with Sarah’s leg injury, they had clearly become a liability to the group.

As Sarah’s relative, Joel would certainly not abandon the girl.

Dilly-dallying like this, it was only a matter of time before they were caught by the Infected.

Brian was no saint; he wasn’t noble enough to risk his life for someone he had only known for a month.

Just then, Tommy, who had been missing, appeared from nowhere.

He looked anxious as he spoke to the three people by the car.

“Damn it, the Infected are coming!

We have to run!” It turned out that during the time the three were unconscious, the Infected on the highway had broken into the town.

Those who had originally been fleeing toward the highway had all turned back, bringing with them a large number of Infected.

Knowing the situation was critical, Joel handed the pistol tucked behind his waist to Tommy, then picked up Sarah, who couldn’t walk properly, and said: “Tommy, you cover me.” “Okay.” Tommy also saw his niece’s injured right leg and knew this wasn’t the time to waste.

He took the pistol and said to Brian, who was beside him: “Kid, I remember you have Firearms too, right?

Stay by their side, and I’ll cover the rear!” After a brief hesitation, Brian nodded.

Regardless of what he was thinking, the primary goal now was to get out of this hellhole first.

The four of them followed the swarming crowd as they fled forward.

During this time, people kept scrambling out of the buildings on both sides, screaming in terror, with sporadic Infected closely trailing behind them.

Just as the fleeing crowd was passing an intersection, a car out of control suddenly rushed out from the intersection ahead and plowed straight into the Gas Station at the corner.

“Boom!” The car slammed violently into the fuel tank.

The sparks instantly ignited the gasoline, exploding the entire fuel tank and setting off a raging fire, which also set everyone fleeing near the Gas Station ablaze.

Dozens of people were instantly consumed by the fire, their miserable screams rising one after another.

Some rolled on the ground in agony, trying to extinguish the flames on their bodies to save themselves, while others ran toward the nearest people, hoping for help.

But this act not only failed to get them help but instead set the people they tackled on fire as well.

Such a horrifying scene prevented the crowd behind from advancing.

Coupled with the explosion flames blocking the road ahead, the panicked crowd fled to the left and right like headless flies.

“Go to the right.” Seeing the path ahead blocked, Joel didn’t pause at all.

He told Brian and Tommy to follow him, then whispered to comfort his already trembling daughter, telling her to close her eyes.

Brian followed them unhurriedly.

Ahead was the theater, and once they passed it, it was only a short distance to the highway entrance.

Then, they just needed to find any car to leave quickly.

But reality is often cruel.

Just as they were about to reach the intersection, a burning vehicle suddenly exploded at the intersection, scaring the crowd that had been running forward into immediately turning back.

However, the road behind had already been occupied by the arriving Infected.

When those running in the front realized something was wrong and intended to turn back, the unknowing crowd behind them pushed desperately forward, sending them straight into the mouths of the Infected.

With the road ahead blocked and Infected closing in from behind, brian’s group was suddenly in a dilemma.

“This way, there’s an alley here!” Just as the situation became increasingly critical, Tommy saw an alley between two buildings blocked by an iron fence and hurriedly signaled the others to come over.

Fortunately, the gate wasn’t locked.

The group filed in.

After seeing everyone was inside, Tommy hurriedly found a stick to seal the gate shut, simultaneously blocking two unlucky souls who also wanted to get in.

On the other side, Joel, who was walking in front, was almost attacked by an Infected that suddenly pounced from a trash can at the corner.

Brian was startled and instinctively fired a shot, accidentally blowing the Infected’s head off.

Continuing to rush deep into the alley, just when everyone thought they could shake off the monsters behind them, the Infected, like maggots on a bone, climbed over the fences and walls, closely following behind them.

After all, Joel was carrying Sarah in his arms, which greatly affected the group’s speed.

Seeing the Infected getting closer and closer, they hurriedly entered the nearest Bar, hoping to use the door to block the monsters’ progress.

But when everyone entered the Bar and turned to close the door, an Infected’s hand reached into the gap, jamming the door that was about to close.

Seeing Tommy desperately holding the door, Brian hurriedly rushed forward and fired several shots through the door gap, directly forcing the Infected back, and only then did they manage to close the door.

After closing the door, everyone didn’t stop, leaving through the other end of the Bar, while the Infected blocked behind the door continued to bang on the door, hoping to break in.

Rushing out of the Bar, they casually took out a lone Infected, saved a person who was about to be killed, and entered the mountain road next to the highway through a gap in a broken wall outside the Bar.

Continuously firing to deal with the scattered Infected along the way, the group quickly approached the highway.

But before they had gone far, blinding lights appeared on the hillside ahead, and a fully armed Soldier blocked their path.

“Stop, don’t move, put your hands up!” Even though they had long known the highway was guarded by the Military, it was still a considerable distance from the highway, and encountering a Soldier here was clearly unexpected for everyone.

Tommy, holding Firearms, decisively dropped the pistol and raised both hands high, afraid that the other party would open fire.

Fortunately, seeing the person holding a weapon disarm, and with another man holding a child, the Soldier relaxed his vigilance slightly and didn’t pay much attention to the other child standing nearby.

Looking at the Soldier standing on the slope and the assault rifle in his hand, Brian moved stealthily to the right, hiding half his body behind a rock formation on the right, secretly thinking that scenes like this were common in doomsday movies.

First, the escaping Survivors encounter a Soldier, then the Soldier asks his superiors how to handle it, and finally, the superiors cold-bloodedly order the civilians to be shot.

Although the situations in movies aren’t necessarily true, it’s always right to be cautious.

“Officer, please save me.” Just as Brian and the others stopped due to the warning, and the Soldier was intending to request instructions from his superiors via radio, a figure suddenly rushed out from the shadows.

Brian was stunned at first, then realized that figure was exactly the Survivor they had saved at the entrance of the Bar; it turned out he had been sneaking behind them the whole time.

“Stay where you are, or I’ll open fire.” The Soldier hadn’t expected someone else to suddenly run out from behind these people.

He didn’t even bother contacting his superiors, raised his assault rifle, and warned the other party not to continue approaching.

But this Survivor seemed unable to listen at all; he continued to run forward like a madman, muttering “Help me” the whole time, as if he were possessed.

Seeing that the other party had no intention of stopping, the Soldier didn’t hesitate in the slightest, aimed the assault rifle at this Survivor, and pulled the trigger.

Bullets sprayed from the muzzle, and a series of blood mists instantly appeared on the Survivor’s body, and he was instantly riddled with bullets.

The scene suddenly went quiet for a moment.

Although the Survivor’s death had its own causes, the Soldier’s unhesitating execution still made everyone present feel a shudder.

Joel looked at the Survivor still twitching on the ground, knowing things might not be looking good.

Suddenly, he caught sight of Brian, who had been beside him, already hiding behind a rock formation nearby.

His mind stirred, and he began to ponder.

Sarah was now in his arms.

If the Soldier opposite also opened fire on them, wouldn’t his daughter become his human shield!

At this thought, he began to move slowly and quietly toward Brian’s direction.
