Just then Damien’s phone buzzed on the table and he cleared his throat returning back to his composed self.
“Do not hide things like these from me anymore, I’m more than capable to solve it, understood?”
“In that case …
I guess I’ll just have to trouble you!” I smiled brightly at him, thrilled that he was willing to help me.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, so I’ll say it now.” I looked him straight in the eyes and added with a cheerful laugh, “I’m truly lucky to have been chosen to marry you, husband!”
Danien held his breath when he heard my words, either because he felt shy or because he couldn’t believe what I had just said.
But I truly meant every word.
I felt lucky not just because he had tremendous wealth—though honestly, that was a jackpot, but because he was genuinely kind and gentle.
Most rich men I had seen would probably sneer at their wives for taking on something they considered beneath them, like modeling for a small product campaign.
Sure, Mireille Beauty wasn’t exactly “small,” but compared to his world, the paycheck I received must have looked like pocket change.
Yet not once did he ever say, “You don’t need to work,” or try to stop me from chasing the little things that mattered to me.
Sure, he asked plenty of questions when I told him I had just gotten a job but not once did he belittle me.
Instead, he supported me, getting me a manger, offering his support and even guiding me so I wouldn’t lose my way in that industry.
Maybe I was being dramatic, or maybe it sounded biased, but he really was the first man who ever made me feel safe without stressing me out.
That’s why I liked him so much.
Maybe not romantically, not yet, at least.
I didn’t know what the future would bring, but even as just a friend, he was truly one of the very few people I genuinely liked, at the very least he was better than the bitch who had betrayed me.
“That goes the same way,” he finally said.
Damien turned his face slightly, avoiding my eyes.
“I’m lucky to have you as my wife, instead of…
your sister.”
I didn’t say anything for a while, just gave him a small smile.
‘Of course he was, having my sister as a wife would be equivalent to marrying the devil’s incarnate.’
And just then my wonderful system thought it was the right time to interrupt my thoughts.
[A Random Quest!]
[Reward: 25 Experience Points, 5 system points, 10 charm Points, $10,000]
[Time Limit: 12 hours.]
I stared blankly at the system panel in front of me for a while.
What the fuck was wrong with the system now?
Why was it playing matchmaker?
[He needs to say “you’re beautiful” or “you’re gorgeous,” Host.]
[If you only eat dinner and he doesn’t say it, the quest will count as failed.]
The system once told me that the harder the quest, the bigger the reward would be.
So I couldn’t help but wonder, how difficult could it really be to get Damien to compliment me?
He had called me “stunning” before.
[The word “stunning” doesn’t count.
It has to be “beautiful” or “gorgeous.”]
‘I know!
I know!’ I shouted at the system in my head.
Moments later, I cleared my throat to get Damien’s attention.
“So …
since we’re both feeling lucky, maybe it’s time to celebrate our marriage.” I gave him a small smile.
“If you’re free tonight, would you like to have dinner with me?
I can book a reservation at a good restaurant.”
Damien glanced at me, his eyes widening a little, probably because I suddenly asked him out to dinner.
At last, he nodded.
“Alright.
Tonight, then.
You don’t have to worry about the reservation, I’ll handle it.”
“No, no, no!
“I still haven’t given you a wedding give yet, right?
So just let me handle it so I can pay you back, okay?”
“So I will wait for you at …,” I paused, thinking what time would give me enough time to get ready.
“Seven!
I’ll wait at seven o’clock!” I dashed for the door, before he could even insist on booking the restaurant himself.
“Okay, see you later!
Don’t be late!”
A few moments later, while walking towards my room I spoke to the system again.
“Hey System, can you recommend a restaurant for, let’s say …
a date?”
[Date?] The system’s voice sounded a little confused.
[But didn’t you say you two were just friends, Host?]
My face heated up instantly at her words.
I rushed into my room, shut the door, and quickly replied.
“W-well, it’s for our wedding celebration, okay?
So of course I have to book a place that feels like a proper date.”
Besides, that kind of restaurant had an elegant atmosphere, perfect for someone like Damien.
There was no way I could take him to a place that was too cheap or shabby.
“Ugh just – just recommend a Michelin star restaurant!” I stammered, “I think that’s the right place to bring a young master.”
[Searching for the perfect restaurant ….]
[Ding!
Penny found the most suitable restaurant at Maple Avenue, Sunridge Bay: The Golden Phoenix]
[Estimated cost for Rooftop Fine Dining: $1,800 for 2 people.]
[Would you like to book a reservation, Host?
I can do it for you.]
