I swiped my finger across the screen, scanning the brief catalog.

“Is this really all you have?”

”Fair enough,” I said tapping the top entry.

“I’ll take the skincare set.”

I gave a small nod and swung my legs over the edge of bed standing up, the floor felt cold against my bare feet as I walked around the room opening empty drawers and looking through the closet, but found absolutely nothing.

I sighed and turned towards the door, intending on leaving wearing my hospital gown just as a young nurse slipped inside, holding a garment bag.

She offered a polite nod, crossing the room to place the bag on the hospital bed.

”Mr.

Blackwood requested that you change into this,” she said softly.

”Oh…

I see.

Thank you.”

She nodded once more and stepped out, pulling the door shut behind her.

”Wow,” I murmured, stepping closer to inspect the gown, it was a gorgeous, off-white off-the-shoulder gown made with light, flowing fabric.

It had thin shoulder straps framed by a ruffled trim, leading into a fitted, corset-style waist laced with a soft light blue ribbon that hanged gracefully down the front.

I held the dress up to the light.

“He really is something else.”

[He certainly has good taste!]

“You think so too, right?” I said unfastening the hospital gown, I let the thin fabric pool around my ankles and stepped into the off-white dress, pulling the blue ribbon snug around my waist and tying it into a neat bow, and slipped on my flat shoes.

“System, can I take the health restoration pill, now?”

[Yes, Host!]

A faint blue light flickered above my open palm and a small pill materialized out of nowhere and dropped onto my hand.

I didn’t bother wasting time and just popped it in my mouth, swallowing it dry.

I popped the pill onto my tongue and swallowed it without water.

The dry tablet scratched slightly against my throat as it went down, but within seconds, a sudden wave of warmth radiated from my chest, easing the lingering ache in my limbs.

I turned to the full-length mirror on the wall, adjusting the blue ribbon at my waist.

Satisfied with my reflection, I turned and walked out of the room into the hallway.

Damien was outside the hospital room, waiting patiently with his driver who seemed to have arrived not long ago.

I hurried over, my shoes clicking softly on the floor.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting.”

He looked up at me, his eyes slowly scanning my frame, before giving me a small nod.

“It looks good on you.”

“Sorry?”

“Nothing,” He clicked his tongue once, signaling the man behind him.

“Let’s go.”

I followed behind them, as his driver pushed his wheelchair out of the hospital towards the car park, where the van was parked.

The driver pressed a button, opening the van door and lowering a mechanical ramp.

Damien guided his wheelchair up the ramp into the van, the wide interior giving him plenty of room.

“What are you waiting for, get in.”

“Oh, right” I said, entering the van and pulling the door shut behind me.

I glanced at Damien from the corner of my eye watching as he pulled out his tablet from the car compartment and went straight to working, as the van simultaneously pulled out of the parking lot.

“Uhh…where are we going?” I asked, leaning forward slightly.

He looked up from his tablet at me with a matter of fact expression.

“Marriage registration center, where else?”

Wow!

I really do get to marry this fine man!

[All thanks to me, Host!]

Yeah, sure whatever.

Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the marriage bureau, the whole process was surprisingly quick and easy.

Since we were both locals, all we had to do was hand over our ID cards, birth certificates and fill out a few forms at the counter.

It was my first time getting married, both as Elena and Eliana, but I didn’t expext it to feel so…bland.

As we waited for our marriage certificate, I I looked around the grand, empty hall.

“There’s literally nobody else here, it’s kinda creepy.”

“Well, that’s because I asked for the place to be cleared out.” Damien replied, not even looking up from his phone.

“Awww….but why?”

“I enjoy my privacy.”

A heavy silence settled over the place.

I drummed my fingers against my knees, shifting my weight back and forth as the minutes dragged on.

Finally, I leaned over, stretching my arm out to press a index finger firmly against his arm.

He didn’t even budge.

“Are you busy?”

”Yes.”

”How busy?”

”Very busy.”

”On a scale of one to ten?”

Damien’s thumb froze on the screen.

He slowly turned his head, a single eyebrow rising high as he stared down at my hand still resting on his arm.

“Ten.

Why?”

”I’m so bored~”

For a split second, the cold composure slipped right off his face.

His mouth parted slightly, his eyes widening as if I had just spoken to him in a completely foreign language.

He snapped out of it just as quickly, his jaw tightening into a hard line.

He turned toward a nervous-looking man in a tailored suit waiting near the counter.

“How much longer will this take?”

The lawyer flinched, clutching a set of stamped documents as he rushed over.

“It’s done!

You just need to sign here…

and here,” he stammered, placing a fountain pen on the cclipboards.

We both signed the documents and I handed the pen back over to him.

”Congratulations on your marriage, Mr.

and Mrs.

Blackwood,” the lawyer said, bowing slightly.

I clapped my hands together, a wide grin breaking across my face.

“Thank you!”

If I get to wake up to a face like that every morning I could even die without regrets!

”Eliana.”

His voice cut through my thoughts.

I snapped my head toward the glass doors, where Damien was already maneuvering his wheelchair toward the exit.

”Hurry up,” he called over his shoulder, not bothering to slow down.

“I don’t have all day.”

”Right behind you!” I jogged across the hall, slipping around behind the chair to grab the rubber handgrips.

He didn’t protest, though his shoulders set into a stiff line as I took over pushing.

”Where are we going now?” I asked, leaning down slightly as we rolled through the sliding doors into the cool afternoon air.

”Home.”
