After clearing the way ahead, Han Yue immediately shouted, “Jill, get over here—quick!”
As he yelled, he pulled out the grenade launcher.
When it came to things like this, Han Yue felt that if he didn’t kill them, he’d have nightmares tonight.
It was kind of like trypophobia.
When you saw something densely packed and writhing, even if it terrified you, there was also this overwhelming urge to crush every last one of them.
Spiders were the same.
Something this disgusting—if he didn’t kill it, he wouldn’t be able to get it out of his system.
Hearing Han Yue’s shout, Jill didn’t try to prolong the fight.
After dodging another spray of venom from the giant spider, she turned and sprinted toward him.
Seeing she was close enough, Han Yue shouted, “Get down!”
The instant the words left his mouth, he pulled the trigger.
The grenade exploded squarely against the spider’s head.
The violent blast made the whole tunnel tremble slightly.
The spider let out a shriek of pain.
When one shot failed to kill it, Han Yue fired again.
This time, he took the smaller spiders around it with the blast as well.
Looking back at the wrecked room behind them, Jill glared at Han Yue and, unable to hold it in any longer, kicked him.
“So this is how you left me there and ran off?!”
Han Yue didn’t dodge, though the kick didn’t hurt much anyway.
He chuckled and argued back, “What do you mean ‘ran off’?
I just thought the room was too small.
If I’d fired a grenade in there, I might’ve blown you up too.”
Jill gritted her teeth.
“Fine.
I’ll let that excuse slide.”
Since Han Yue hadn’t actually abandoned her and fled for real, Jill didn’t keep pressing the matter.
The two continued deeper inside.
Ahead of them was still another seemingly endless tunnel.
Crooked and winding, twisting in every direction.
There were also rooms along the way, all packed with mechanisms and traps.
Which made Han Yue curse Spencer a few more times in his heart.
What a complete idiot.
Didn’t that old bastard ever get sick of living in a place where he had to solve mechanisms every single day just to move around?
At last, the two reached the end.
Ahead was no longer a tunnel, but an elevator. This chapter is updated first at g.com.
They stepped onto it and were still figuring out how to activate it when footsteps suddenly sounded from behind.
“Jill!”
“Barry!?
Thank God you’re okay.”
Seeing the familiar figure, Jill’s face lit up with relief.
“Good thing you’re alright too.
I heard noises, so I came down here to check, but…
I didn’t expect a place like this.”
As he spoke, Barry stepped onto the elevator and glanced down at the seemingly bottomless darkness below.
“Do you know what’s down there?”
Jill shook her head.
“Only one way to find out—go down and look.”
“Then let’s go.”
With that, Barry pressed the elevator button.
The lift slowly descended.
When it finally reached the bottom, a strange sound faintly drifted in from somewhere ahead.
Barry’s expression tightened.
“What was that?”
“No idea.
Let’s go check.”
At that moment, Barry looked toward Han Yue beside Jill, and suspicion had already returned to his eyes.
He suddenly asked, “Jill, this guy didn’t do anything to you, did he?”
“No.
He’s saved me several times already.
Without him, you might not even be seeing me right now.”
“Is that so?
Then thank you.” Barry said this while reaching out to shake Han Yue’s hand.
Han Yue smiled.
“No big deal.”
“Jill, you two go check it out.
Too much has already happened today. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.
Just in case, I’ll stay here and guard this spot.
That way, we won’t end up with no route of retreat.”
“Mm.”
Jill nodded, then took Han Yue with her and headed farther in.
After turning a corner, Han Yue suddenly lowered his voice and said, “Be careful.
That sound just now was probably Lisa.”
Lisa, of course, was the shackled monster.
The moment she heard that, Jill immediately became alert.
Sure enough.
They hadn’t gone much farther before Lisa’s figure appeared in the cave ahead.
Han Yue blasted her back with a single shotgun shot, then grabbed Jill and ran the other way.
Fortunately, the monster wasn’t especially fast, and whenever she moved, the shackles dragged against the ground with a scraping sound that was impossible to miss.
The two quickly shook her off, then pushed open an iron door and escaped the attack for the time being.
After doing a quick search of the surrounding area, they were just about to head back.
However, at that exact moment, Barry—who had just said he would stay and guard the exit—simply took the elevator back up.
Jill shouted after him, but it was useless.
In the end, she could only sigh.
“Hey, stop looking so down.
Maybe Wesker didn’t actually kidnap them.
Maybe he just took advantage of the fact that nobody can contact the outside world right now, knew Barry cared about his family, and used that to threaten him.”
“Maybe…”
Clearly, seeing a teammate act like this made Jill feel awful.
From behind them came the sound of chains scraping across the ground again.
The two turned and saw Lisa chasing after them once more.
Han Yue knew they couldn’t stay there any longer.
He grabbed Jill’s hand and ran off to the side.
Even while fleeing, he kept searching the surroundings as they moved.
Continuing deeper through the cave, the two found a room.
It was piled full of miscellaneous clutter, all of it covered in dust.
Clearly, no one had lived there for a very long time.
After pushing open the next door, they found a bedroom.
And on the coffee table, there was even a photograph.
In the photo, a family of three wore bright, happy smiles.
It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
