Rebecca pointed off to the side.

“John, there’s a door over there.”

Stay behind me and be careful.”

Han Yue motioned for Rebecca to remain at his back.

The moment the iron door swung open, a foul stench rushed straight at them.

Han Yue immediately covered his nose.

Ahead of them was a sewer.

Murky water had pooled inside it, and the stagnant filth gave off a nauseating smell.

Rebecca bit her lower lip, forced herself to suppress the sickness rising in her throat, and slowly walked down.

“I wonder where this sewer leads.” She looked ahead into the deep, shadowy tunnel, her voice low.

Han Yue kept his nose covered and shook his head.

“No idea.

I just hope there aren’t any more of those monsters down here.”

Fortunately, the sewer was not very long.

They had barely gone far before reaching a bend, where a ladder could be seen overhead.

After climbing up, they arrived in a hall.

The bright lights overhead and the tightly shut doors around them gave both of them a slight sense of safety.

The enormous Umbrella logo emblazoned across the floor silently declared the owner of this building.

At the center of the hall hung a portrait.

And the man in that portrait was exactly the elderly gentleman Rebecca had seen in the dining car earlier.

The text beneath the painting confirmed his identity:

Dr.

Marcus, the first—and last—director of the Executive Training School.

“Why is there an Umbrella logo here?” Rebecca turned to Han Yue, confusion clear in her eyes.

Han Yue thought for a moment before answering, “If I’m not mistaken, this should be the Executive Training School.

But it should’ve been abandoned for years.”

“Executive Training School?

What’s that?”

“It should be some kind of research facility that once belonged to Umbrella.

I don’t know the details either.

I was only transferred over from the Chicago branch a few days ago as a graduate researcher.”

That way, if Umbrella’s crimes were fully exposed later, protagonists like Rebecca would not immediately direct all their hostility at him.

“Dr.

Marcus—one of Umbrella’s three founders—but he’s supposedly been dead for ten years already.” Han Yue stepped forward as he spoke, explaining what little he “knew.”

But Rebecca kept staring at the portrait in silence, her expression slowly changing.

Because she had definitely seen this man just now.

Inside that train car.

……..

At the same time, everything happening in the hall was being observed through surveillance by Wesker and William Birkin in the monitoring room.

“Who are those two?”

A puzzled voice broke the silence.

Beside him, Wesker—his dark sunglasses still on his face—answered calmly, “Rebecca.

A rookie who just joined S.T.A.R.S.

As for the person beside her, you should know him.

He was transferred from the Chicago branch to replace you at the Arklay Laboratory.”

He had barely finished speaking when the surveillance image on the screen suddenly flickered.

The mysterious man who had been singing atop the mountain appeared on-screen and openly declared that he was the source of everything.

And the reason for all of it was simple: revenge against Umbrella Corporation.

Countless leeches surged out and gathered at his feet, slowly twisting together into a human form.

And when the face of the figure finally became clear, both Wesker and William Birkin were visibly shaken.

Even Wesker, who was usually so calm, abruptly rose from his seat.

Because that face belonged to none other than Dr.

Marcus—a man who had been dead for a full ten years.

And back then, the two people responsible had been the very two of them.

Faced with Dr.

Marcus’s sudden “resurrection,” neither Wesker nor Birkin could make sense of it no matter how hard they tried.

But in that moment, Wesker’s determination regarding a certain decision he had already contemplated for a long time became even firmer.

……

The scene returned to the hall.

Rebecca finally came back to herself from the shock and hurriedly told Han Yue what she had just seen.

Although Han Yue already knew the answer, he had no intention of saying it outright.

If he did, it would definitely arouse Rebecca’s suspicion. This story is hosted at novelpin‌g.com.

So instead, faced with an eighteen-year-old girl who was still shaken and trying to make sense of everything, Han Yue simply offered a few words of reassurance before the two of them began searching through the mysterious building.

Inside, Han Yue found quite a few bullets, herbs, and other scattered supplies.

And honestly—damn it, this really did feel exactly like a game.

Search every corner.

Loot everything not nailed down.

Pick up supplies like a scavenger sweeping a map clean.

As far as looting resources went, Han Yue did not mind in the slightest.

What truly irritated him was the puzzle-solving.

It wasn’t as if he had no weapons.

In plenty of places, brute force would obviously solve the problem, yet the setting still insisted on shoving some ridiculous mechanism or contraption in front of him.

The same went for those locked doors.

One shot, and the problem would be solved.

So after doing a basic sweep of the supplies on the first floor, the two of them headed up to the second floor.

“Holy shit!”

The moment Han Yue pushed open the door to a room on the right after going upstairs, his heart nearly stopped.

Inside were two enormous mutated insects.

He could not even tell whether they were supposed to be flies or cicadas.

All he knew was that they were huge, hideous, and disgusting enough to give any normal person a heart attack on sight.

Startled, Han Yue hurriedly pulled out the shotgun and fired at the creatures, while Rebecca supported him from the side with her handgun.

By the time they finally brought the monsters down, Han Yue could only conclude one thing:

the people at Umbrella really were a pack of complete lunatics.

How the hell had they even managed to create something that revolting?

Clutching at his chest, Han Yue dropped down to the side and panted heavily.

Rebecca thought something serious had happened and quickly ran over, asking anxiously, “What’s wrong?”

“I…

I got scared so badly my heart feels weird.

Hurry—help me calm down.”

As he spoke, Han Yue reached out, grabbed Rebecca’s small hand, and pressed it directly against his chest.

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
