Just a normal man dragged into this place by the Reincarnation Space.

The fact that he had been able to face those grotesque, terrifying zombies and fight that gigantic mutated centipede for this long without completely breaking down already put him above the vast majority of reincarnators.

Han Yue clenched his teeth.

After giving the centipede one last desperate look, he turned and ran toward the side door.

Faced with death, he had already begun to abandon the idea of completing the hidden quest.

All he wanted now was to get back to the mansion and wait for Chris, Jill, and the others to arrive.

As long as he could somehow coast through this instance alive, that would be enough.

“I’m sorry, Rebecca!”

“I can’t do it!”

He looked back.

His eyes met Rebecca’s.

And the tears at the corners of her eyes burst free like a collapsing dam.

“No!!!”

“John, save me!!!”

The moment she saw him give up on her and turn to run, Rebecca let out a hoarse, desperate scream.

This eighteen-year-old girl, on her very first mission, had not cried when facing zombies.

She had not cried when facing Marcus.

Even when she was surrounded by countless leeches, she had not cried.

But now—now tears poured down her face as if they cost nothing at all.

“John…

don’t go…”

“Don’t go…

save me…”

Her eyes, fixed on Han Yue, were full of pleading.

If a person could live, who would willingly choose death?

Not to mention she was only eighteen.

A girl that age should have been in her final year of high school, or maybe just starting college.

Even if she had joined S.T.A.R.S., she was still just a girl.

Han Yue stopped.

He stopped right in the doorway, with one foot already about to step outside. Find the original chapter at g.com.

At a moment like this, all he had to do was grit his teeth, walk out, and slam the door shut.

Then everything inside this room would have nothing to do with him anymore.

As for whether Rebecca lived or died—what did that have to do with him?

Inside Han Yue’s mind, two thoughts were fighting a brutal war.

“Are you out of your mind?

Look at yourself.

What do you think you are?

You really think going back will save her?

If you go back, you die!”

“Am I really going to just stand here and watch her die?”

“Save her?

With what?

Going back is just handing the enemy a double kill!

Listen to me—step outside, and none of this has anything to do with you anymore.

If Rebecca dies, then she dies.

It’s not like she even shows up much later in Resident Evil anyway.

There’s still Jill later, Claire later, and Ada too—your girlfriend in this instance.

Are you really going to die here?”

The urge to run had already swallowed nearly ninety percent of Han Yue’s thoughts.

But when he looked into Rebecca’s pleading eyes, in the end, he just could not harden his heart.

“Enough!”

“Fuck!!!”

Han Yue gritted his teeth and stamped his foot hard.

“Then if I die, I die!

Damn it, Rebecca!

I’m risking my life to save you here—if you don’t repay me by marrying me later, I’m not done with you!!!”

While shouting at Rebecca, Han Yue slammed the door shut behind him.

Then, cleanly and decisively, he chambered a round into the gun in his hand.

The muzzle leveled straight at the mutated centipede’s head.

“Bang!

Bang!

Bang!”

Gunshots rang out one after another.

When Rebecca saw Han Yue come back, something inside her heart seemed to be struck all at once, and tears spilled down her cheeks again—this time from sheer emotion. New chapters come out on novelping.com first.

Now Han Yue was focused to one hundred and twenty percent.

His eyes locked onto every movement of the centipede, watching its attacks with absolute concentration.

And each time he managed to dodge, he would immediately turn around and repay it with a shotgun blast.

Again and again.

Finally, just as Han Yue was about to collapse from exhaustion, the centipede gave out first.

Its claws finally lost their strength.

And as Rebecca broke free from its restraint, the centipede’s enormous body crashed heavily to the floor.

By then, Han Yue was drenched in sweat from head to toe.

His stamina had been drained to the limit.

The moment the fight ended, he slumped weakly to one side.

As soon as Rebecca hit the ground, she threw herself straight into Han Yue’s arms.

Her eyes were wet with tears, and even her voice was still trembling with sobs.

“Jo…

John, thank you for saving me.”

Han Yue wrapped one arm around her and said between heavy breaths, “If you really want to thank me, then marry me.

I practically threw my life away to save you.”

Rebecca could not help laughing through her tears.

She took out a handkerchief, gently wiped the sweat from Han Yue’s face, and looked at him.

Their eyes met.

For several seconds, neither of them said a word.

Then Rebecca leaned in and kissed him.

After their lips parted, Rebecca complained in a tearful voice, “If you ever leave me behind again, then even if I turn into a zombie, I still won’t let you off.”

“Hahaha, I won’t, I won’t.”

Han Yue laughed too.

He knew that he had basically accomplished his true goal already.

What hidden quest?

How could that possibly compare to directly romancing the heroine?

And luckily, he had killed Billy Coen early.

Otherwise, the person receiving all this gratitude and goodwill right now definitely would not have been him.

On top of that, Han Yue found it amusing that, in a sense, he had also stolen Wesker’s woman.

Even though, in official canon, those two were not really a CP, there had always been that kind of rumor floating around—that Wesker might have liked Rebecca, because there was supposedly a photo of Rebecca in a drawer in his office.

And really, when people talked like that, you did not need to overthink it to understand what they meant.

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
