HELIO’S POV
I managed to get back in the cell without anyone noticing.
I fucked up.
The plan with Rosalia had amounted to nothing.
Both the pack war and
I had forced her to her bond me for nothing.
Guards passed by roughly every few hours.
Especially if they had no reason to suspect I had found way out.
I figured Lorenzo was planning to keep me down here until after Mara was gone was taken by mendez.
I was close to the end of the road with every other option.
What do I do now?
The following day around mid afternoon when someone b brought me out of my thoughts.
“Helio are you in there?” I heard Nigel’s voice.
He looked around nervously, making sure the other guards hadn’t seen him.
“Nigel,” I called his name.”I didn’t think you’d sneak in to see me.”
“What the hell were you thinking bonding an Alpha’s woman?!” He snapped at me.
“All the sneaking around lately I should have known you were up to something. You scentless idiot!”
“Look, I’ve been getting yelled at a lot recently.” I told him.
“I wonder fucking why!?” He raised his voice before holding it.
He stilled and looked around.
Fortunately, the other guards hadn’t heard him.
“Helio, what’s happening to Mara is wrong but the extent you’re going to to save her is insane,” he warned me.
“Everything I’ve endured in this house was for her and you’re telling me to just give up and do nothing about it!” I snapped.
“You’re out of your depth, are you trying to die!?” he whisper shouted at me.
My lips pressed together.
“If you have nothing useful to tell me, then leave,” I coldly told him.
He stared at me for a moment.
His eyes narrowed.
He then scoffed and walked away.
If I told him I had left the cell he’d be pissed about it.
It not that I wanted to take risks.
I’ve always kept a low profile because I thought it would benefit me.
The last two weeks had shown me just how wrong I was.
On the day of Mara’s hand off.
I didn’t know what time they were sending her off.
Once a guard made the first morning pass I once again used the crevices I’d made in the wall to climb out.
The mansion was old ducal house covered in green vines across the walls.
Using that and a little parkour It’s how I was able to climb up to see Rosalia that time.
Slowly and carefully I made my way to my room in the sentinel quarters.
I wore a hat to hide my distinctive red hair and kept my head down so no one could see my eyes.
Taking full advantage of my suppressed scent.
I hoped I wouldn’t bump into Nigel who would certainly try to stop me.
I entered my room through the window.
Wolf law took honourable fights seriously.
No other weapons, just claws, and may the strongest wolf win.
It was a test of masculinity.
Most importantly Guns disrupted a wolf’s sense of smell so they tended not to use them unless the situation called for it.
I taught myself to fight with knives to match their fighting skill.
I purchased a gun just in case.
I picked it up and placed it in my pocket.
I then took out another box where I kept my knives.
I took out two knives and put around the belt of my pants.
I went outside and roamed around the gardens acting like a sentinel on duty.
It was around mid morning when 3 cars arrived at the estate and parked int he driveway by the entrance.
I frowned in disgust as Alpha Mendez got out of the car and entered the building.
It’s time.
My heart rate increased and my hand went to the gun.
My grip on it was tight.
About an hour later the doors to the mansion opened once more.
Lorenzo, Mara, and Alpha Mendez exited the mansion.
Sentinels surrounded them.
I ran toward them, pulled out the gun and began firing at the group.
Several screams and shouts erupted.
“What the hell is happening!?” Lorenzo yelled as he looked my way.
I continued firing and managed to get Alpha Mendez in his arm.
His sentinels quickly surrounded Alpha Mendez and rushed him to his car.
They dropped like flies around her.
I did my best to avoid killing them, aiming for non vital points like legs and arms.
Amid the chaos I ran toward Mara and quickly grabbed her.
Mara screamed in shocked but then ran from the guards.
“Mara come with me!” I quickly grabbed her.
“Helio!” Mara called my name.
“It’s you!” Lorenzo screamed at me.
“How did he get out of his cell!?”
“The deal is off!” I heard Alpha Mendez yell at Lorenzo.
Then Mendez’s cars quickly drove off.
Sentinels tried to stop me.
I shot at them, making sure Mara stayed firmly behind me.
“Stand down now!” I heard.
Lorenzo grabbed me with his claw, took the gun out my hands and crushed it.
He was going to crush me if I remained in
I used my feet to step on his torso and manoeuvre out of his hold.
I put some distance between us, before turning back to face him.
Mara was still behind me but we were surrounded.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve cost the pack! Step forward and I will kill you right here, right now,” Lorenzo stated.
“I’ve given you enough warnings. Even your sister’s pleas won’t save you this time.”
“Fine,” I agreed.
“What about my bond to Rosalia?”
Lorenzo’s eyes narrowed.
I wasn’t going to survive the fight, but I would fight for Mara.
I had nothing to lose.
This was it.
“Helio, you can’t,” Mara begged me not to fight.
“Make sure she doesn’t leave until I’m done with him,” Lorenzo ordered the sentinels.
Lorenzo hardly called for me to spar with him in recent years.
He would train in the sentinel training grounds
Lorenzo’s sentinels came forward.
“No, stand back. he’s mine,” Lorenzo ordered them.
