A shocked expression was on his face.

He didn’t sound convinced at all.

Whispers erupted among the pack members.Full novel: Rejected The Alpha, Bound To The Wolfless Bastard — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Miss Moncaro….” Gabriele started.

“Think about it. The rumoured rare prophecy can’t be a healing ability, right?” Abilities among wolves were rare but there were other healers in the country.

Though few.

Gabriele cocked an eyebrow.

“Can you prove it? How can we know you’re not bluffing?” He asked.

“Bring a temple keeper from the Moon Goddess temple to confirm it. I assure you I’m not lying,” I pressed on calmly.

He scrutinised my face for a moment as if expecting me to crumble.

“When did you discover this power that you’re suddenly bringing up?” He asked skeptically.

“I hadn’t revealed it publicly to protect myself,” I partially told the truth.

Gabrele’s eyes narrowed as he contemplated for a moment.

A frown appeared on his face.

He then turned to the other Salvador members.

“Stand down for now. We will resolve this issue later. We will prioritise the Alpha’s death for now.”

“Keep in mind that if you are lying, you too will dealt with swiftly, Miss Moncaro,” he threatened.

“Of course.” I accepted.

“We’ll further discuss this issue later.” He said.

“A servant will take you to your rooms now. You’ll stay there until the matter is settled.”

He then glared at Helio one last time then turned away.

An exhausted breath escaped me as Gabriele left and the other pack members slowly began to disperse.

Servants came forward and carried Lorenzo away.

His blood creating drag marks across the floor.

I swallowed hard and removed my head from Helio and turned to look at the man responsible.

His gaze was fixed on Lorenzo being carried away.

Saying he was distraught was an understatement.

“Helio!” I heard his sister’s voice.

Mara ran towards from the dispersing crowd and jumping in his arms.

“Mara,” Helio opened his arms and hugged her back.

He looked uncomfortable at the fact that he was covered in blood.

“I was so scared. But you actually defeated Lorenzo I couldn’t believe it! And now you’re going to become Alpha?” She screamed out excitedly.

I wondered if part of the decision I made came from seeing these two together.

No, never.

She let go of him.

“And you have a mate?” She asked and then looked at me.

“You didn’t tell me you were his mate,” she said to me.

“I’ll explain what happened later.” He told her.

A sentinel came to us as well.

The one I had seen try to take Mara with him earlier.

“You okay, man?” He asked in a soft tone.

However, he looked he wanted to say so much more than he was saying.

“Yeah,” Helio answered.

Helio then looked from me to and back to the sentinel.

“Uh Rosalia, this is Nigel, my bestfriend,” He awkwardly introduced us.

He and I quickly gave a nod of our heads in recognition.

“I’ll talk to you guys later, okay?” He told Mara and Nigel.

“Take her to her room please, Nigel.”

“Sure,” he agreed.

Helio has some people who really care for him around him.

The two walked away leaving just Helio and I.

I turned to face Helio and found him looking down at his hands.

They were bloody and shaking.

He must be in shock.

His eyes then met mine.

“You’re making me the Alpha…” he started in disbelief.

“It was the only way to save you because apparently you can’t not FUCK anything up for two seconds!” I finally yelled at him as I raised my hands to face made an agitated gesture.

“If you died what was going to happen to our bond?”

“In case you hadn’t noticed, It’s not like I wanted to kill him. I had no choice. Mara was about to be handed over,” He defended himself.

I frowned and glared at him.

But this is how far Helio will go Mara.

Even if its near suicide mission.

“Well from here on out things are only going to get harder. They aren’t going to respect a wolfless alpha. And now that I’ve revealed I have powers the other core packs are going to become a big problem.”

Alphonso being the biggest one.

“And unfortunately for you this is the only way you can protect Mara,” I let him know.

I wanted to escape from all this politics and now I might become the Luna of another pack.

What am I going to do?

My throat still felt dry.

I might have just made the dumbest decision.

What’s to come might be worse than I realize.

“Your wolf is beautiful, by the way,” Helio complemented me, bringing me out of my thoughts.

“Don’t flirt with me,” I snapped feeling like he was trying to distract me from my anger.

“I’m not.”

I really couldn’t blame him for protecting Mara but the outcome was far from ideal.

It was a lose-lose situation either way.

He turned away from me and went to where my clothes had dropped after shifting.

My dress was now tattered and ripped from my transformation.

However, the robe I had worn over it seemed to have survived.

He picked it up, returned to me and held it up for me.

“Here,” he gently said.

I rolled my eyes before reluctantly changing back to my human form.

Helio, who was looking away, placed the robe around my naked body.

His eyes met mine once the robe was secure.

For a second we lingered on each other as he removed .

“I’m sorry you had to reveal your power,” he apologised after a moment.

What am I going to do with this man?

I wondered as my eyes searched his golden one’s.

“It couldn’t be helped,” I brushed him off.

I gripped my robe tight.

Still couldn’t believe what I’d just done.

A servant came to escort us back into the mansion.
