ROSALIA’S POV
SALVADOR PACK
I watched as Helio stood over his brothers’ dead body.
Just like in the vision I had when I kissed him to seal the bond.
My jaw nearly dropped to the floor.
How had we gotten to this point?
How had things escalated so quickly?
There were several moments when I thought he was about to die.
Only for him to surprise me like that.
How?
How had he killed Lorenzo?
And only using knives.
A deafening silence fell across the courtyard as everyone processed the scene.
The Salvador pack members stared in disbelief.
From the mansion windows I saw servants watching the scene in the courtyard in horror.
And out of everyone Helio was the one who looked the most shocked.
“The wolfless bastard killed the alpha!” One of the sentinels surrounding Helio and Lorenzo said.
“He killed the Alpha!
“There’s no way!”
“How is this possible?”
The crowd erupted in whispers, clearly horrified.
A man stepped forward and drew closer to Helio and Lorenzo.
It was Lorenzo’s right hand man, Gabriele.
“Kill the bastard and avenge the alpha!” Lorenzo’s right hand man ordered the sentinels.
All the sentinels revealed their claws and got ready to attack Helio.
“No! Helio!” His sister screamed his name.
“Mara! I’ll handle this!” Helio yelled loud enough for her to hear.
Another sentinel took Mara by the arm and began pulling her away from the crowd.
The sentinels all charged towards him.
Helio got in a fighting stance with his bloody knives.
He looked ready to charge at them.
This…this wasn’t good.
If he dies it puts me in a weird position.
Also what happens to Mara?
Wait that’s not my problem…
Anyway, how could I stop it?
My mind raced to come up with a solution.
Before an idea settled I jumped forward and transformed into my wolf.
“Don’t kill him!” I yelled jumping in front of Helio.
“What are you doing?” Helio asked me.
“Let me handle this.” I circled him with my wolf and then stood beside him.
My head rested under his chin as I stared at the Salvador sentinels about to attack.
The thing is I couldn’t tell if I was protecting Helio or I was protecting the Salvador pack members.
I couldn’t tell who was more dangerous.
“Rosalia Moncaro move out of the way this is a Salvador issue,” Lorenzo’s second in command confronted me.
“You will not touch him,” my voice commanded.
“Step aside Ms Moncaro unless you too want to become an enemy of Salvador.”
“You’ve just lost your Alpha and now you want to kill the remaining male heir with Salvador blood?” I argued.
In wolf society, much like human society, Alpha succession prioritised the first male son of the Alpha.
If something happened to him, the next son was in line.
Lorenzo was the only legitimate child of the former alpha.
Meaning Helio and Mara were next in line.
“We will not have a wolfless bastard as our Alpha. Especially one who murdered the rightful Alpha.” Gabriele snapped.
I felt Helio tense as he tightened his grip on his bloody knives.
My head pressed further into Helio’s neck to make him back off.
This couldn’t escalate further, more bloodshed was unnecessary.
His breaths were uneven against my ear, and his muscles tense against my body.
“He may have killed the Alpha but they had a fair fight. Wolf law recognises fair duels. Alpha Salvador agreed to the fight and lost fair and square,” I reminded him.
“The bastard already launched an attack on Salvador and interrupted an important business deal!”
“But there are still rules to succession especially when circumstances are hard to deny,” I breathed out.
Helio was getting irritable as he fidgeted against me.
“We have every right to avenge the murder of our Alpha and punish him for the disruption he caused,” Gabriele insisted.
I bit my lip in frustration.
This was proving difficult.
Gabriele was intent on killing Helio no matter what.
I was technically right.
My argument was sound, Helio had the right to be the next successor.
But Gabriele and the rest of Salvador also had the right to refuse him.
“If you kill him what about my bond with him? Have you forgotten that Alpha Salvador brought me here after the situation with Alpha Ramirez?” I reminded him.
“Unfortunately, that no longer applies in this situation. So I’ll say one last time to you Ms Moncaro. Step. Out. Of the way,” he seethed and annunciated every word of that last sentence.
What can I say?
What can I do to stop them?
When the answer hit me I almost wanted to step out of the way.
I didn’t want to do it.
A moment later Gabriele waved his hand and the sentinels resumed the their charge.
My throat went dry at the next thing I was about to say.
This couldn’t be the answer.
If I revealed it my father would know. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.
Patricia would know.
And worst of all Alphonso.
I glanced up at Helio behind me.
Then I found Mara in the crowd.
Slowly the words left my mouth.
“I am Rosalia Moncaro the woman prophesied to possess an ability that can bring prosperity to a pack.”
Gabriele’s eyes widened in surprise.
He raised his arm and stopped the sentinels.
“What are you talking about?” He snapped.
“I have the ability from the prophecy,” I repeated.
It was even harder to get the words out this time.
He scoffed.
“You don’t have the gift. Your sister is the one who has it,” He stated matter-of-factly.
“But I do in fact have the gift and Helio who despite being wolfless is bonded to the most sought after woman in Spanish wolf society. That should increase his value to you all.”
A shocked expression appeared on his face.
He didn’t sound convinced at all.
Whispers erupted among the pack members.
“Miss Moncaro….” Gabriele started.
“Think about it. The rumoured rare prophecy can’t be a healing ability, right?”
