ROSALIA’S POV

“Don’t you ever talk down to her! She’s far more valuable than a sack of shit like you who got me in debt!” He growled.

After hearing the prophecy from the Moon Goddess temple, he started parading me around to powerful packs around Spain.

Wolves with abilities were valuable after all.

His pride made him get ahead of himself.

He started making these packs pay in advance to have access to me and my power.

At home, he pressured me to ‘awaken the ability quickly’.

When I turned 18, everyone thought that I wouldn’t awaken beyond that age.

And so the packs that had ‘booked’ me wanted their money back.

My father couldn’t pay them back because he had spent it.

He blamed me for the situation.

If it weren’t for Alphonso, he was screwed.

“You’re just as worthless as your mother. You should have died along with her after she gave birth. Could have saved me the inconvenience.” He continued.

I raised my hand to retaliate against his insult towards my mother.

“Don’t be stupid,” he snapped.

He swatted my hand away and jerked me backward.

I staggered and tried to regain my balance but felt something hook on my foot.

Losing my footing, I fell down the stairs that led to the basement area.

A shocked gasp escaped me as what felt like an endless torture sequence ensued.

With every hard thud on each step, it felt as if my skull might crack open.

When I reached the last step, I couldn’t move as pain spread throughout my body.

For a second, I thought I was going to pass out.

Slowly, my head lifted and found my family looking down at me from the top of the stairs.

Patricia snickered.

She was the one who had tripped me.

My father stared at me like an inconvenience.

“I can’t be bothered,” he muttered.

“Patricia, heal her,” he ordered her.

“Yes, father,” she responded.

“Actually, wait until tomorrow morning before she goes to see Alpha Ramirez. That way she can sleep whilst thinking about how her own stupidity got her here,” he cruelly changed his mind.

He then walked off.

Rejecting me.

Like he always did.

My stepmother watched with an amused grin before following after my father.

Patricia followed suit.

Once they left, I simply lay on the floor and looked up at the ceiling.

I stood up and went to my room.

Unlike Patricia and my stepmother, I was assigned a small room in the basement.

There was a room for me on the higher floor that my father had prepared in case Alpha Ramirez came to the estate.

So he could pretend he was treating me well.

Even the servants of the house had better living quarters than me.

My father told me if I told Alphonso, he would feign ignorance.

I didn’t care about it because I spent a lot of time with Alphonso at his estate since we started dating when I was 19.

I entered my room and closed the door behind me.

A cold rush of air hit me, and I felt the temperature drop.

It was a colder room compared to the ones on the upper floors.

Black metal pipes jutted out from different corners of the room.

Some ran parallel along the walls; others ran vertically.

The persistent sound of water leaking and rats moving through the pipes filled my ears.

It was a sound I had become accustomed to over the years.

I sat on my tiny bed in the only corner of the room where water didn’t leak from.

For a moment I just sat in pain.

My gaze was unfocused, my thoughts were restless as the night I’d just had replayed in my mind.

The pain in my jaw spread throughout my body.

You’re fine.

You’re fine.

You’re fine.

I felt a sudden wetness on my cheeks.

I didn’t want to cry about Alphonso anymore or my father.

I always used to cry in the past from my father’s rejection and coldness.

I thought I was done crying.

The tears just kept falling to no end as I desperately wiped at them.

If it weren’t for Alphonso, I would have left my shit family a long time ago.

Believing I had found someone who genuinely loved me, I stayed.

When I was 19 years old, I stopped seeking my father’s approval.

I accepted that he would never change.

If only I had known then what I know now.

Alphonso would never have broken my heart.

I’ll see what he has to say for himself tomorrow, but I want to end things.

I laid out some pyjamas and began to take off my engagement dress.

My hand caught on something as I unzipped the dress.

A clump of jet black hair.

It was Patricia’s from the fight we had at the Ramirez estate.

Warmth soon came into my hands as my powers took control.

A vision of Patricia talking to someone entered my mind.

“He likes you; I knew your charms would work.” My stepmother’s voice was clear.

“It wasn’t even that hard either. I’ve caught him staring at me,” Patricia replied.

“You never know; he might just make you Luna one day,” my stepmother said.

“I hope he does,” she replied cockily.

“I just don’t understand why he chose her in the first place. I have the gift, so why did he fall for her in the first place!”

Does my stepmother hope Patricia will take my place the same way she took my mother’s place as Luna when my mother died?

I scoffed.

The vision ended abruptly, and my arms stopped glowing.

My powers always activated at the most random times from the most random triggers.

And as usual, the visions were fragmented.

Sometimes touching objects that belonged to people triggered my power.

I knelt beside my bed and took out an old box from underneath.

Opening it revealed some of my mother’s old items.

A dress and some jewellery.

My father had gotten rid of all her things, but I had managed to keep these.

I took them out and held them tightly.

Sometimes I received visions when I held her things.

Images of her laughing, crying, smiling.

I felt close to her even though I’d never met her.

If I could control my powers use them at will.

If I could touch anybody or an item that belonged to them and learn information about them from that would be useful.

I can easily see why it has the ability ‘to bring prosperity’ to a pack.

Beside the space for my mother’s things was some jewellery I had been receiving from Alphonso throughout our relationship.

The jewellery meant so much to me, but after tonight it was painful to look at.

The jewellery was worth over a million Euros altogether.

I could live a comfortable life with it.

I won’t tell anyone about my ability, and I’ll live peacefully away from my family and Alphonso.

That’s all I wanted now.

I thought of my encounter with David earlier.

Perhaps I could help with his debt using the jewellery.
