“What will happen now?” Adela asked as she stood up from the chair she had done the recording in.
“They will take it to their studio and see if there are any edits needed,” Lucifer explained.
“Once we approve of the final cut, they will send it to the broadcasting station in Man’s World.
We will have to wait for a response from there.” “How long?” Adela asked.
Lucifer deferred this to the director as he glanced at the shorter man.
“Only a few hours,” the director explained.
“I’m thinking we could get away without cutting anything.
It will make it seem more genuine.
Otherwise, color grading and making sure the crop is suitable for most screens is a must.” Lucifer offered the man a hand.
“Pleasure doing business with you,” the Devil responded.
“I have always been pleased with your work.
We will hear from you in a little while.” “Yes, thank you very much,” Adela said to the director.
“I understand if you were hesitant to be involved in a story like this.” Lucifer wouldn’t tell Adela that he had been persuasive with money.
Having endless amounts of funding had its perks.
“It’s my pleasure,” the director responded.
Lucifer gestured for Adela to follow him out of the gallery.
He could tell that she was still being professional and stiff in a room where there was cameras and people there to record her.
“How did it feel?” he asked her as they walked.
“Other than terrifying…” she muttered.
“It feels good to finally be able to say what I have wanted to for so long.
If anything, I hope it can resonate with maybe a few others.
I’m not the first half-breed.
I know of even a few full-breeds who aren’t entirely happy with their situations.
I can imagine maybe there are some in other supernatural communities.” “I found your words moving,” he complimented her.
“Others will as well.” “Now, I need to get out of this dress and these heels,” she insisted decisively as she looked down at herself.
“Not a fan of dresses?” Lucifer wondered, hoping to find out more about the woman at his side.
He thought she looked beautiful, but he didn’t want to sway her to wear something she didn’t like.
“Honestly?
I’m tired,” she admitted.
“The hours here blur together, and it’s clear you need less sleep than I do.” Lucifer laughed lightly at that.
“Forgive me; I forget about a mortal’s limitations,” he joked.
“I’ll take you to your room.
Would you like something to eat?” “Anything,” she admitted, realizing she was hungry as well.
In only a few minutes, they were up the elevator and in front of her door.
“I hope you can sleep soundly,” he told her.
“There is nothing more for you to worry about until we see how the video is perceived.” “If I’m not awake by the time the editor is finished with the video, I don’t mind if you approve of the edits,” she admitted.
“I… trust you.” Lucifer felt warmth spread in his chest at that.
“I will continue to prove myself to you,” he responded.
“Sleep well, Adela.” “Get rest, too, if you can,” she insisted.
He nodded and waited for her to get into her room and lock the door before he retreated.
While he was a bit tired, it wasn’t time for him to sleep.
He wouldn’t tell her, but there were a few responsibilities he had pushed aside to spend time with her.
Just like the last time she had a meal in her room, Adela was able to shower and get into pajamas before she heard a knock that indicated the meal was ready for her.
The timing was perfect as usual.
She still was unsure of how she felt about being listened to.
Tonight it was steak and potatoes that were smothered in a rich gravy sauce.
She practically inhaled all of it.
If she spent too much time here, she wondered if even her werewolf metabolism would fail her.
Lucifer kept feeding her really well.
Finishing her meal with pomegranate juice and brushing her teeth, Adela felt safe enough to sleep soundly.
Luckily, there weren’t bad dreams this time.
+ Adela wasn’t sure how long she slept, only that when she did, there was red moonlight shining through her window.
The half-werewolf stretched as she began to sit up, but an ache was felt in her lower stomach.
She cringed at the feeling.
“My heat shouldn’t be for a while, right?” she whispered to herself, her eyes darting back and forth as she tried to measure the days.
It had been a long time since there wasn’t an alpha affecting her pheromones.
She could hardly remember what it was like to be on her cycle or when it was set to happen naturally.
With a shaking hand, she felt her forehead.
She couldn’t even tell if it was warmer than normal.
Adela sprang up from her bed and went to the bathroom so she could look in the mirror.
“I’ll be fine,” she muttered.
“Even if I have to have an unassisted heat here, I’ll survive.
I’ve done it before.” Her heart was racing, but she placed her hands on the counter and breathed in and out a few times.
Feeling a bit more even, she went to the main room and searched for some clothes to wear that day.
Before she could get far into getting ready, there was an urgent knock.
“Lucifer?” she asked.
“It’s me,” he confirmed.
She unlocked the door quickly.
Standing there, she was surprised to see Lucifer wearing black slacks, a black fitted T-shirt, and a sport coat over that.
He looked like he was dressed up to go somewhere.
“Is there any news?” she asked.
“May I come in?” he asked.
“Yes, please,” she responded quickly and stepped aside.
When he was inside her room, he put his hands in his pockets and looked around for a moment.
Even if he wasn’t a werewolf incapable of acting decent at the scent of an omega’s pheromones, he did notice that he could smell her sweet scent everywhere.
Was it always like this, or was it because she was standing before him in pajamas and he was insatiable?
“I have been summoned to take part in a Council hearing,” he admitted.
“I’m sure you have heard that the King of every supernatural region is the representative for their respective areas.” “Yes, I’m aware,” she confirmed.
“The subject of this hearing happens to be you,” he admitted.
“They prefer to get ahead of this before it can escalate to all-out war.” Adela’s mouth hung open in disbelief.
