Ada Wong led Claire at a light jog, returning to the spot above where Leon and Alan Han were.
Luckily for them, the path they had taken was straight.
She glanced down at the two below, whose eyes were watering from the stench, then lowered a folding ladder.
“Leon, Han, come up here!”
“What the hell was that thing?”
“Even mutated creatures from radiation shouldn’t be that big.”
The two complained as they climbed up.
“Just get up first.”
Watching them climb, Ada Wong couldn’t help pinching her nose briefly.
Claire and Sherry, meanwhile, had barely taken their hands off their noses the whole time.
Looking at Ada Wong leading ahead and Claire beside her, the two men exchanged an awkward smile.
Great, we’re being disliked.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“You only said the virus turns people into monsters.
You never said it affects animals too!”
Zombie Dog: Woof woof woof!
I’ll bite you!
Am I even an animal or not?
“That’s true.
I’m surprised you two made it out unharmed.”
Alan Han: What kind of main character dies anyway?
(blinks)
The group chatted as they walked into an elevator.
Once inside, it began to descend.
“I have a question.
Who is Umbrella Corporation selling those monsters to?
Our military, or other countries?”
Leon looked at Ada Wong, who was leaning against the railing, and asked.
Ada Wong lifted her head and thought for a moment.
“They’re not selling monsters.
They’re selling the virus that creates them.
Annette is the one who made it.”
“That crocodile was already terrifying, but Annette is even more dangerous.”
As she finished speaking, the elevator arrived.
Seeing the doors open, Ada Wong didn’t elaborate further.
Leon stepped out first.
“Leon, Umbrella Corporation isn’t anything good.
You should be mentally prepared.”
Seeing Leon deep in thought, Alan Han gave him a reminder.
He wanted to keep Leon from being overly soft-hearted.
At this stage, he was still too naive.
Leon nodded.
“Don’t worry.
I’m ready.”
After leaving the elevator area, Leon pushed open a door and suddenly spotted someone alive ahead.
“This has to be William’s doing…”
A woman in a white lab coat crouched beside a corpse, muttering to herself.
“Who are you?”
Seeing a stranger, Leon raised his gun cautiously.
Ada Wong stepped out from behind.
The moment she saw the woman’s face, she decisively drew her pistol, her expression turning cold.
“Annette Birkin.”
“That’s who we’re looking for?”
Annette continued muttering as if she hadn’t heard them.
“There’s no time.
It has to be dealt with.”
Ada Wong raised her gun and approached her slowly.
“Hand over the G-virus.”
Only then did Annette look at Ada Wong, as if she had guessed who sent her.
A mocking smile curled at her lips.
“Hmph… Don’t even think about it.”
“Don’t do anything reckless, Doctor.”
Ada Wong said this flatly.
“…Oh, really?”
Annette pulled a lighter from the back pocket of her pants.
Click.
She quickly tossed it onto the corpse at her feet.
Flames instantly engulfed the body, and she took the chance to retreat.
“Mom!”
Sherry ran out from Claire’s side.
“Sherry?…”
After a brief hesitation, Annette turned and ran into the emergency exit.
“Don’t run!”
Ada Wong immediately gave chase.
Alan Han quickly grabbed her.
In the next instant, a string of gunshots rang out, striking the pipes nearby.
Held back mid-motion, Ada Wong had no time to dodge.
She could only watch as Annette’s gun was aimed straight at her.
Just as Annette adjusted her aim and was about to fire at Ada Wong, who hadn’t managed to withdraw in time.
Bang, bang, bang.
“Watch out!”
Leon grabbed Ada, using Alan Han’s pull to drag her out of the line of fire.
“I will never let you take the G-virus!”
With that, Annette shut the security door and ran off.
“I didn’t expect a scientist to be capable of something like that.”
Ada Wong leaned partly against Leon, looking at the closed security door in surprise.
Then she slowly turned her gaze to Alan Han, who was still holding her arm, and to Leon, who was holding her.
“Ah.”
“Uh…”
Alan Han and Leon quickly let go.
“Leon, Han, thanks.
You saved my life.”
Ada Wong let out a breath and thanked them directly.
“It’s nothing… ah.”
Leon instinctively reached toward his waist, then suddenly remembered his hands weren’t clean.
A horizontal tear had appeared on the side of his police uniform.
In no time, the blue fabric was stained red with blood seeping from the wound.
“You’ve been shot?!”
Ada Wong crouched down to check his injury.
The movement pulled at the wound, making Leon suck in a sharp breath.
“It’s fine.
Just a graze.
Do you have any bandages?”
Ada looked up at him.
“I do… It’s okay, I can handle it myself.”
Having adjusted to the pain, Leon intended to deal with it himself.
Ada glanced at Alan Han and gave a subtle signal.
She stopped Leon and took the bandage and medicine Alan Han handed over, wrapping it around Leon’s waist several times.
“Leon… you almost got hurt because of me.”
“You’ve saved me so many times.
I couldn’t just watch you get hurt.”
“You really do act like a hero.”
Ada almost tapped his wound to teach him a lesson, but held back.
“It’s nothing.
My honor.”
Leon smiled at her.
Claire couldn’t help smiling warmly at the scene.
Alan Han looked at Leon’s expression.
See that?
Your flirting is way better than mine.
Always going all out like this.
Seeing that Leon was fine, Ada stood up and looked again at the sealed security door.
This is bad.
“Sherry, was that person just now your mom?”
Ada Wong crouched down to meet Sherry’s eyes.
“Mm… yes.”
Seeing Sherry nervously clutch the necklace on her chest, Ada Wong smiled faintly.
Seems I overthought it.
Alan Han: What a refreshing psychological battle.
“Alright, gentlemen, miss, and little one, I need to report the current situation to higher-ups.
What about you?”
“I’ll go look for an entrance.”
“Hey, wait for me.
I’ll go too.”
“Sherry… how about we talk?”
Watching the three and the child head ahead together to scout, Ada Wong raised an eyebrow slightly, her expression unreadable.
Stepping back to the elevator entrance, Ada Wong took out her walkie-talkie.
Beep…
“I’m outside the facility, tracking Annette Birkin.”
The device crackled.
“If she doesn’t have it on her, then it must be in the NEST.”
As she spoke, Ada Wong glanced at the charred, unrecognizable corpse on the ground.
“Once I have it, I’ll call for extraction.”
She frowned slightly, then put the walkie-talkie away.
Not far off, two people were messing around.
One was trying to eavesdrop, while the other poked at his wound, laughing as he winced in pain.
Neither of them was actually looking for a way forward.
Nearby, Claire was still chatting with Sherry.
“Did you find a way?”
“Uh, I looked around, but I didn’t find anything.”
“Yeah, doesn’t seem like there’s a path.”
Ada Wong crossed her arms, glancing at the lift not far away, then at the two of them, who were barely ten meters from it.
“Oh, what a shame.
Two liars.”
Even if you overheard it, you still wouldn’t suspect anything, she thought.
“Alright, look again more carefully.”
She pressed a hand to her forehead, then walked alone toward a nearby set of pipes, stopping beneath an inactive ventilation duct and studying it.
On the other side, the two quickly found the lift.
“Hey, Ada, there’s a way here!”
“Yeah, I know.”
Ada took out an electromagnetic field visualizer and aimed it at the main circuit connected to the ventilation fan.
Beep, beep.
The fan began to spin.
Ada pointed the device at it, forcing it into rapid overload.
The rotation sped up faster and faster.
Screech.
Metal scraped loudly as the fan exceeded its safety limits.
It broke loose and slammed into the metal mesh covering the vent.
Bang.
The sound of metal hitting the ground echoed.
Leon stood there, stunned.
Claire also stopped talking with Sherry.
“That was easy.”
Ada Wong quickly climbed into the duct.
“Wait for me, Ada.”
“Leon, you don’t need to follow me.”
Leon stopped, confused.
“Why?”
“I have my own mission, Leon.
It’s not something I can tell you.”
Seeing Leon try to follow anyway, Ada Wong crouched at the edge of the duct and looked at him seriously.
“Leon, this route may be faster, but capturing Annette isn’t going to be easy.”
“We should split up.
If something goes wrong, there will still be a chance.”
“Besides, with the three of you and a child, following me would make it easier to expose my position.”
Leon paused after hearing this.
“Alright, Ada.
But promise me you won’t go off and do anything reckless on your own.”
Alan Han covered his face.
Leon, seriously, do you even know who she is?
“…Take care of yourself, Leon.
Han, you too.
And Claire, take care of Annette’s daughter, Sherry.”
Ada Wong didn’t answer Leon.
She simply turned and disappeared into the darkness.
“So, are you going after her, Leon?”
“No.
I promised her.
Let’s take the other route.”
Alan Han: Leon, you’re way too naive!
Claire: Sherry?
Sherry: Stay away.
