When Chen Xuan was carried into the hydrotherapy room earlier, Chen Jianguo had still needed to lift him from the wheelchair and carry him into the medicinal pool.

Yet only a few hours had passed, and he was already able to stand on his own.

Zhou Lan stared at her son’s legs as if she could not believe her eyes.Full novel: Returning from Cultivation to the City, Bad News: My Cultivation Is Gone — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Little Xuan?”

“Mom.”

Chen Xuan walked toward her.

“I can walk again.”

Zhou Lan reached out and touched his arms, then his legs. After confirming that her son really could stand and walk, she covered her mouth. Tears quickly streamed down her face.

Chen Jianguo stood nearby, his eyes red as well.

“Good. Good.”

He wanted to help his son, but did not know where to put his hands. In the end, he could only gently pat Chen Xuan on the shoulder.

“As long as you can walk again, that’s all that matters.”

“Dad, I told you this family would get better.”

Chen Xuan supported his mother.

Zhou Lan cried for a while before remembering the most important thing.

“You’ve only just recovered, so don’t walk too much. Sit down quickly. We’ll have the doctor examine you again tomorrow. We can’t leave you with any problems.”

“I’ll listen to you.”

Chen Xuan did not refuse.

Although he had reentered the first level of Qi Refining, his body had been dormant for ten years. For now, he had no trouble dealing with ordinary people, but he still needed more recuperation before his body could fully return to normal.

It was only then that Qin Yufei finally came back to her senses.

She looked at Chen Xuan, then instinctively glanced toward the hydrotherapy room, where the medicinal liquid had already become noticeably paler.

When Chen Xuan had said earlier that he wanted to use the entire fifty-three-year-old wild ginseng in one go, she had worried that his body would not be able to withstand it.

Yet the man who had needed to be carried into the medicinal pool only a few hours ago could now walk out on his own.

“You can walk already?”

“Yeah.”

“After soaking for only a few hours?”

Qin Yufei still found it hard to believe.

She had grown up in Hundred Herbs Hall and had seen countless precious medicinal ingredients. She also knew that a fifty-three-year-old wild ginseng was indeed an extremely rare treasure.

But no matter how potent the medicinal herb was, she had never heard of anything that could allow someone who had been unconscious for ten years, with severely atrophied muscles, to recover this much in only a few hours.

This clearly could not be explained by a single wild ginseng.

Her gaze toward Chen Xuan grew more curious.

That set of seven needles that no one could understand in the morning, followed by this completely unreasonable rate of recovery—this young man who had just awakened from a ten-year coma clearly possessed far more secrets than she had originally imagined.

However, Qin Yufei did not question him.

Everyone had their own secrets.

If Chen Xuan wanted to tell her, he would do so naturally. If he did not, there was no need for her to insist on finding out.

“It seems my earlier worries really were unnecessary.”

Qin Yufei smiled.

“If I’d known you were this confident, I wouldn’t have called my grandfather to ask him.”

“There’s nothing wrong with being cautious,” Chen Xuan said.

“As long as you don’t think I was meddling.”

Qin Yufei gave him another once-over.

Compared with how he had looked lying in the hospital bed a few hours earlier, Chen Xuan now seemed like a completely different person.

“But you recovered so quickly. When the doctors at the hospital see you tomorrow, they’ll probably be even more shocked than I was.”

She then turned to Zhou Lan and Chen Jianguo.

“Uncle, Auntie, Chen Xuan has only just recovered. It would be best to have the doctors examine him again. I can help arrange it through the hospital.”

Zhou Lan nodded repeatedly.

“Yes, he definitely needs another examination.”

Qin Yufei smiled. “Then I’ll have someone contact them in advance tomorrow, so you won’t have to wait in line.”

“That would be too much trouble for you.”

“Auntie, please don’t stand on ceremony with me.”

Qin Yufei glanced at Chen Xuan.

“Chen Xuan saved my grandfather’s life. This is nothing compared with that.”

Qin Yufei did not continue disturbing the family.

After confirming that Chen Xuan truly had not suffered any complications, she prepared to leave with her assistant.

Before leaving, she turned back and looked once more at Chen Xuan, who was now able to stand on his own.

“Get some good rest.”

“Mm. Thank you for everything today.”

“Don’t mention it.”

Qin Yufei smiled, then left with her assistant.

Watching Qin Yufei walk away, Zhou Lan said, “Little Xuan, Miss Qin is truly a wonderful person. She was worried the medicine might be too strong for you and cause something to go wrong, and she also helped arrange tomorrow’s examination. We have to thank her properly.”

Chen Xuan turned to glance at Qin Yufei’s retreating figure and nodded.

The next morning, the doctor in charge of Chen Xuan’s treatment conducted a comprehensive examination.

The results left the entire rehabilitation department baffled.

The muscles that had been severely atrophied the day before had regained their vitality overnight. In fact, the readings were not merely on par with those of a normal person—they were even somewhat stronger.

An ordinary person would need to train for quite some time to develop muscle density like his.

The doctors studied the examination report for a long time, completely unable to understand what had happened.

“What exactly did you do last night?” the doctor asked suspiciously, looking at the three members of Chen Xuan’s family.

“We only gave him a medicinal bath,” Zhou Lan immediately replied.

“What kind of medicinal bath could produce results like this?” The doctor still looked incredulous.

“A family recipe.” Chen Jianguo and Zhou Lan were just about to speak when Chen Xuan cut in.

The doctor clearly did not believe them, but he could not find any other explanation.

Chen Xuan requested to be discharged.

“Although your physical examination results have passed, your recovery is simply too unusual. Given your current condition, we don’t recommend that you leave immediately. You should remain under observation for at least three more days, so we can make sure all your vital indicators remain stable.”

“I still have matters to deal with. If anything happens after we return home, we’ll come back immediately for further examinations.”

The doctor tried to persuade him several times, but seeing that Chen Xuan was determined, he could only have the family sign the necessary paperwork for a temporary leave. He also reserved the hospital room for a few more days.

At ten in the morning, Chen Yan arrived at the hospital.

She ran all the way to the ward, carrying bank transfer records and screenshots of her chats with Wang Hai.

When she pushed open the door, Chen Xuan was standing by the window, exercising his legs.

Chen Yan stopped in the doorway and stared at her brother, who was now able to walk independently, for a long time.

“Brother?”

Chen Xuan turned around.

“You’re here.”

Chen Yan glanced at the empty hospital bed, then looked at his legs.

“You can walk now?”

“I can.”

“Yesterday, when we were on video, you couldn’t even sit up.” Chen Yan looked him up and down, still unable to believe it.

“The medicine sent by the Qin family worked pretty well.” Chen Xuan smiled. “Now we can go take care of the real business.”

Chen Yan quickly understood what he meant.

“You’re going to Huangting now?”

“Mm.”

“No.”

She shook her head immediately.

“There are a lot of security guards at Huangting, and Manager Wang is connected with people outside. You’ve only just recovered. You can’t take risks because of my situation.”

“I’m not going there to take risks. Did you forget what I told you? I’ve done a favor for an important person. Someone will protect us.”

With that, Chen Xuan took the transfer records and chat screenshots from his sister and read through them page by page.

The 80,000 yuan had been transferred directly by Huangting into Chen Yan’s bank account, with “salary advance” listed as the payment note. In the chat history, Manager Wang had only mentioned deducting it from her wages over the course of a year. He had never said anything about an additional fee of 180,000 yuan.

That fee had come from the previous contract, but it was clearly an unfair clause that violated labor laws. It had no legal validity whatsoever—it was only useful for taking advantage of people who didn’t know the law.

“Brother, should we just call the police?”

“We can, but not now.”

“Why not?”

“Huangting wouldn’t dare do this without making preparations. And as far as I know, Huangting has a very extensive network of connections. They may even have someone powerful backing them up. If we call the police now, at most they’ll classify it as a contract dispute and tell us to sue in court. If this drags on, it’ll become a huge hassle.”

Chen Xuan handed the phone back to his sister.

“Let’s talk to them first. If we can resolve it through negotiation, there’s no need to make things more complicated. Ideally, we’ll clear everything up through discussion. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll have the Qin family step in.”
