Her long silver hair swayed gently in the wind, and her purple eyes held a look of urgency as they locked directly onto him.

So beautiful.

Subaru stared in awe, completely forgetting about the three thugs lying on the ground for a moment.Full novel: Re:Zero – King Crimson! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Aah!

Big sister, please save us!

This guy is terrifying, he’s trying to mug us!” The trio exchanged glances and instantly reached a tacit agreement, crawling and kneeling toward the girl.

“Eh?

Hey!

You bastards, how can you twist the truth like that?!

You were the ones trying to rob me, and I just subdued you!” Seeing their act, Subaru immediately shouted back in defense.

“Um, while I don’t know the full story, if someone were mugging you, they wouldn’t be holding four knives, right?

That clearly doesn’t add up.” Emilia wasn’t swayed by the trio’s lies, which allowed Subaru to breathe a sigh of relief.

“Brat, I can feel it—she is dangerous.” Diavolo offered a prompt warning inside their mind, having already seen through Subaru’s hopeless nature.

Lowering one’s guard in an alternate world was a taboo.

“Wait, wait, Boss!

Don’t move against her!

It’ll lead to terrifying consequences—let me handle this, trust me!” Subaru instantly recalled the moment Emilia collapsed and pleaded frantically, terrified that Diavolo might react aggressively again.

However, he seemed to have forgotten something.

Without his explicit permission, Diavolo couldn’t draw upon his power at all.

Meanwhile, watching this unfold from within, Diavolo had already deduced a great deal.

*A Stand with a deathrattle-type ability?

Killing her might trigger even greater trouble, and judging by the brat’s reaction, that trouble resulted in death.* This world was indeed dangerous.

Furthermore, Diavolo had taken note of Emilia’s pointed elven ears, immediately tagging her kind as targets for vigilance.

Non-humans were generally difficult to deal with.

At this moment, Subaru looked at Emilia, speaking with a touch of restraint: “Um, excuse me, are you here to catch a thief?” “Ah, yes!

I’m here to catch a thief!” Emilia suddenly snapped back to reality.

She had been momentarily distracted by Subaru’s quiet self-muttering and his bizarre attire, completely forgetting her primary task.

Anything else could be stolen, but that specific item was non-negotiable.

Watching Emilia’s airheaded behavior, Subaru marveled inwardly.

*So this is what a beautiful girl is like.* “Alright, I can’t waste any more time, I have to hurry.” Emilia immediately stepped past Subaru and sprinted deeper into the alley, while the three thugs crawling on the ground had slipped away unnoticed at some point.

After running a few paces, however, Emilia came to a sudden halt and turned back to Subaru.

“How did you know I was here to catch a thief?” Looking at Emilia’s striking beauty, Subaru forgot to answer for a moment.

His heart thumped uncontrollably in his chest.

A beautiful girl in an alternate world really was the absolute best.

Silver hair, purple eyes, skin as white as snow, and a voice so soft—she looked and sounded like a heroine stepped right out of a galgame!

She hit Subaru’s preferences dead-on.

Just as he opened his mouth, intending to say something cool…

“Don’t move.” Emilia suddenly warned, locking her eyes onto his.

She stared.

He gazed.

Three seconds later, Subaru’s face flushed red; he was the first to yield, breaking eye contact.

*Dear lord.* *Who could possibly withstand this?* *Being stared at so intensely by a gorgeous girl is completely unfair!* “Stop acting like an idiot.

She is asking for intelligence.

Since you said you saw the ‘future’ twice before, put it to good use.” Diavolo chimed in with a stern reminder.

In an unfamiliar world, information was always the highest priority.

“Ah, right, right, ahem.” Subaru re-engaged with the girl’s purple eyes.

“If you want to know what I saw, I only saw a yellow-haired girl run past here.

If you’re looking for a thief, it should be her.” Subaru scratched his head, trying his best to keep his tone normal.

“Is that so?” Emilia realized.

“So you don’t actually know the child who stole my insignia.” “See, I told you your guess was wrong.

This guy looks like a good kid with not a single trace of malice, though he seems pretty capable, considering he won a one-against-three fight.” A small white cat suddenly materialized out of nowhere, perching on Emilia’s shoulder.

“A talking cat?” Subaru blinked.

Even though he had experienced this once before, seeing it again still felt magical.

The small cat blinked back.

It then floated over slowly, stopping right in front of his face, nose to nose.

“Meow~” It even let out a soft, adorable cry.

Subaru didn’t react much.

After all, he had already seen it once, brief as that moment was.

The cat instantly lost its vigor.

“My, my, while being called a small cat stings a little, having you show zero reaction really hurts my feelings.” “Wouldn’t an ordinary person be startled upon seeing a flying, talking cat?” “Still, I’m no ordinary cat, you know.

I’m a spirit, and my name is Puck.” “Please treat me well, young man.” Puck raised a paw as a greeting.

“P-Please treat me well too.” Subaru hastily bowed in return.

*A spirit!* *This is a spirit!* *A staple of alternate worlds!* Taking a deep breath, he plucked up the courage to speak.

“Um, are you chasing that thief?

Did she steal something important?

If you need help, I can assist.” “Though I don’t know what was stolen, I still remember what the girl looks like.

I’ll definitely recognize her if I see her.” Subaru floated the offer cautiously, his heart pounding wildly.

*This is the ultimate opportunity to build rapport with an alternate-world beauty!* *Opportunities like this don’t come around twice!* “Fool, what are you doing?

Haven’t you heard that fewer matters mean less trouble?” Diavolo’s voice exploded inside his mind.

“Getting casually involved in local events in an alternate world is a cardinal sin.

Haven’t you read similar stories?

Situations like this usually end up dragging you down!” “Gathering intelligence isn’t limited to her alone either—this was one of the factors that led to your death.” “Furthermore, when I told you to utilize the ‘future’ you saw, it was so you could exchange information with her!

You idiot already blabbed the thief’s location, so why are you eagerly rushing to help?” “Ah, well, helping others is just the right thing to do, isn’t it?

Ahem, there’s definitely no other motive!” Subaru hurriedly defended himself mentally, his face burning slightly.

It…

it wasn’t because she was a beautiful girl that he wanted to help!

Definitely not!

“Tch.” Diavolo let out a click of his tongue, his tone dripping with utter disdain.

“Just do not reveal my existence.

If trouble arises, I am here.” He was an emperor.

Losing in the previous world did not mean he would lose this time.

Since he was bound to this brat, he couldn’t let him die carelessly.

“Got it!

I promise not to reveal you, Boss!” Subaru brightened up instantly.

With Diavolo backing him up, he felt as though there was nothing to fear.

“You want to help me?” Emilia tilted her head slightly, a tinge of vigilance lingering in her purple eyes.

“Unsolicited help usually comes with hidden motives.” “Still, thank you.

Aside from being a bit strange, you don’t seem like a bad person.

Just to be clear, I have nothing to give you in return.” “So that means you agree?” Subaru’s eyes lit up instantly.

“Rest assured, I have no hidden motives and require no reward.

If you must call it something…

it’s just my daily good deed!” Subaru spoke with absolute righteousness, standing straight and tall.

Yep, just a daily good deed.

Definitely not because she was a beautiful girl.

“Hmph.” Emilia gave no direct answer, turning around to walk out of the alley.

“Hehe, don’t mind her, she’s just like that.

Having your help isn’t a bad idea—at the very least, it’s an extra meat shield, right?

Haha.” Saying so, Puck floated back over and landed on Emilia’s shoulder.

Subaru froze for two seconds before hurriedly trotting after them.

*Beautiful girl!* *Here I come!* Over the next stretch of time, the two wandered around the streets.

It wasn’t that they had zero clues; rather, they had absolutely none.

As Subaru walked alongside Emilia, he stole glances at her profile.

*Wow.* *Her side profile is gorgeous too.* *Her hair looks so soft.* *And those pointed elven ears…

I really want to touch them…* Along the way, Subaru learned the girl’s name.

Satella.

What a lovely name.

It sounded just like the name of an angel.
