'Now that's quite the shit fest'
Lex thought as he gazed at his mother in the middle of this craziness, her appearance and actions in the middle of this room just took things to another crazy level.
Serena was at the centre of this chaotic symphony of obsession. Dressed in a once-elegant gown, now tattered and stained, she moved about the room with an erratic grace, her red-rimmed eyes darting from one portrait to another. Her dishevelled hair fell in wild strands, framing a face twisted with a storm of conflicting emotions.
As Lex entered, Serena's gaze fixated on him, her eyes oscillating between love, anger, and desperation. Her lips quivered, muttering incoherent words that formed a dissonant melody in the eerie space. The room seemed to respond to her turmoil, casting long, distorted shadows that danced on the walls like phantoms.
She was ripping at her hair, her eyes travelling all around, his presence somehow fully escaping his mother's mind. The air was charged with the palpable weight of her fractured psyche. He maintained his act, letting his expression reflect a mixture of fear and confusion, his small form absorbing the surreal atmosphere around him.
Lex made sure to show that he isn't all perfect right now, his eyes travelling through the room, his teeth clenched hard, sweat at his head, while he kept looking around the room as if he didn't know what he should do, all to show that he really is encountering everything frist, such that when the mempory plasy back in his mothers mind later, she won't see any suspisious point.
It would only cause much more trouble to Lex if he stood in the middle of it all with a calm look. Lex needs to show apprehension yet a sturdy front, one of a son braving to show his love to his mother and save her, to be her new obsession.
"WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME?!" Serena's voice echoed through the room, a guttural cry that reverberated off the walls. The intensity of her emotions manifested in the portraits, where the images of Lex's father seemed to weep, smile, and scream simultaneously, her mind too lost to even register Lex's presence.
'This is better than I thought'
"I LOVED YOU, I LOVED YOU, I LOVED YOU…" Her voice shifted, teetering on the edge of a broken lullaby. The words held a haunting quality, an obsessive chant that filled the room like a ghostly echo.
Lex navigated the space cautiously, maintaining the facade of a bewildered child caught in the storm of his mother's madness. He observed the shattered remnants of the memories she had once cherished, now strewn across the floor like the debris of a fractured mind.
"PL-PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!...PLEASE!....PLEASE!...PLEASE!....." Serena's pleas pierced the air, her hands reaching out as if trying to grasp something that had slipped away.
Lex's eyes darted from one grotesque display to another, the shelves containing fragments of his father's existence. The jar labelled "Essence" sent a chill down his spine, a macabre representation of Serena's desperate attempt to preserve a love lost.
'Looks like it worked.' Lex reaffirmed his internal assessment. The room was a testament to Serena's unravelling sanity, a labyrinth of obsession that Lex needed to navigate with precision.
As he moved further into the room, the intensity of Serena's murmurs increased. The conflicting emotions in her voice became more pronounced, a cacophony of love, hatred, and despair. Lex pressed on, his small footsteps echoing alongside his mother's manic laughter.
The portraits on the walls seemed to watch him, their eyes following his every move.
Lex took a moment to absorb the chilling scene before him, realising that he was now at the heart of Serena's delusional world. The plan had worked so far, but the real challenge lay ahead – navigating the intricacies of his mother's fractured psyche while keeping his own intentions veiled.
Serena's gaze bore into Lex with a piercing intensity, her eyes reflecting a turbulent sea of emotions. Lex pressed forward, every step echoing in the chamber of madness. As he neared the epicentre of Serena's obsession, the temperature dropped, and an icy chill settled over the room.
With each step, Lex could feel the weight of the past pressing down on him. Serena's voice hung heavy in the air, an eerie symphony that played on repeat. The desperation in her pleas grew louder, more desperate with every passing moment. Lex had to be careful now; any misstep could shatter the fragile illusion he had crafted.
He approached Serena cautiously, his heart pounding in his chest. Her eyes locked onto his, searching for answers that he knew he couldn't provide. She reached out with trembling hands, fingers brushing against his cheek in a gesture that was both tender and haunting.
"I just want you back," she whispered, tears streaming down her face. "I can't bear to lose you, too."
'Looks like she's mistaking me for an illusion'
Lex mused on the inside, his outside still the frightened child.
"I'M SORRY… I'M SORRY… I'M SORRY… I DIDN'T MEAN IT! I DIDN'T WANT TO LOSE YOU!..." Serena's voice shifted again, this time drowning in sorrow and regret. Lex maintained his guise of a vulnerable child, his eyes reflecting a mix of sympathy and trepidation.
"I'm here, Mom," he murmured, his voice barely audible amidst the chaos of her mind. "I'll never leave you."
Serena's gaze flickered between confusion and relief, caught in a constant battle between her shattered memories and the present moment, and then she shouted out, taking her hands off.
"YES… YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD!" Serena's words pierced the silence like a dagger. The room quivered in response, as if mourning the death of sanity.
'Guess now she's taking me for my father?'
Lex thought the emotional shifts within Serena were too random; it's either her mind shifting from his figure to his father's, or the twisted part of her mind calling out to kill him, both of which are not welcoming situations.
Lex reached the central point of the room, where a portrait of his father hung with particular prominence. Serena's eyes locked onto the image, and her laughter took on a haunting melody.
"WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME?!" Serena's voice soared, and then, with a sudden, frenzied movement, Serena lunged towards Lex. The atmosphere shifted from eerie stillness to chaotic frenzy. Lex, caught off guard, stumbled backwards. Serena's hands gripped his shoulders, her eyes ablaze with a manic intensity. Serena's grip tightened, and in that moment, Lex saw a glimpse of the woman who once cradled him in her arms.
"DIE FOR ME!" Serena screamed.
"Why did you leave me?!" Serena's voice wavered in a heartrending plea. Lex could almost sense the genuine longing behind her words. And before Lex could even say anything, her hands moved toward his throat, they slowly started to choke him, and soon the air started to crack out of him as his eyes started to bulge out.
And from within all this Lex took it with stride, putting on a front of a frightened child as his hands started to hit his mother's hands holding his neck, while at the same time, he went forth to show his eyes of love and care for her, a mismatch of the situation as the oxygen kept being wrung from him.
"DIE! DIE! DIE!"
Is all that kept coming out of Serena's mouth as she kept pushing down on Lex's throat, his eyes beginning to redden with the lack of air, as his reddened eyes matched with his mother's reddened eyes.
Lex's eyes, now watery and strained, locked onto Serena's. He tried to convey a silent plea, a son's desperate call to the remnants of sanity buried within her fractured mind. But Serena lost in her own torment, seemed deaf to any semblance of reason.
The portraits are witnesses to the macabre spectacle, twisted with Serena's madness, weeping, smiling, and screaming in a chaotic symphony.
Lex's small hands clawed at Serena's vice-like grip. Yet, despite the physical struggle, his eyes continued to reflect a mix of love and anguish. It was a paradoxical performance, a son both fighting for his life and desperately attempting to reach the recesses of his mother's shattered soul.
In the midst of this life-and-death struggle, a single tear escaped from Lex's eye, a poignant testament to the tragedy that unfolded in that cursed room. Serena's grip, fueled by both grief and derangement, seemed unyielding, an unrelenting force determined to strangle the life out of the very essence she claimed to love.
Lex's vision blurred further, the edges of consciousness threatening to collapse into the abyss. And then, as if a switch flipped within Serena, her hands trembled. The manic fire in her eyes flickered, replaced by a momentary glimmer of recognition. Lex, on the precipice of unconsciousness, saw a brief pause in Serena's relentless assault.
"I... I loved you…" Serena's voice cracked a fragile admission. The hands that had sought to extinguish life now trembled with a mix of guilt and despair.
And it's with that word that recognition finally burst into her, the madness taking the back seat as reality returned to her, and the moment she saw Lex in her hands, she called out in shock along with Lex.
"Mother..."
"Son...?"
