The council tent was cramped, smelling of wet canvas and nervous sweat. Five men sat around a low table, their faces shadowed by a single flickering lantern. Kai stood at the entrance, his hand resting casually on the hilt of Sunbringer.

Clara stood to his left, her arms crossed, her eyes darting between Kai and the men at the table.

"We’ve heard the rumors, Kai," said Captain Harlock, a man with a scarred face and a voice like grinding gravel. "The miners are talking. They say the Matriarch didn’t fall to your blade. They say you collapsed the tunnel on purpose."Full novel: Role Stealer: The Script Executioner — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Kai leaned against the tent pole. "And?"

"And?" Harlock slammed his hand on the table. "That’s not how a Hero fights! You risked the crystals! You risked the lives of the scouts!"

"I secured the crystals," Kai said, his voice flat. "The scouts are back. The barrier is up. What exactly is the problem, Captain?"

"The problem is the Script!" shouted another man, a priest named Father Silas. "The legends say the Successor must be a beacon of honor. What you did... it was cowardly. It was dark."

Kai looked at Silas. In his vision, a glowing line of text appeared above the priest’s head.

[Father Silas: Scripted Role - The Doubter. Current Influence: 80% Auditor Control.]

"Honor doesn’t fill stomachs, Father," Kai said. "And it doesn’t kill Shadow Beasts. Results do."

Clara stepped forward, her voice trembling slightly. "Kai, just tell them the truth. Tell them you had no choice. Tell them it was a tactical decision."

Kai looked at her. "Why should I lie to them, Clara? I had a choice. I chose the most efficient way to win. If they want a Hero who dies beautifully, they can go dig up Aidan."

The tent went deathly silent. Clara flinched as if he had struck her.

"How dare you!" Harlock roared, standing up. "You’re wearing his armor! You’re carrying his sword! You have no right to speak his name like that!"

"I have every right," Kai said, stepping into the circle of light. "I’m the one who’s still breathing. Now, are we done here? I have a camp to run."

"You’re not running anything," Silas said, his eyes narrowing. "Until we are sure of your intent, Sunbringer stays with the council. It is a holy relic. It belongs to the people, not to a... a common scout."

Kai let out a short, sharp laugh. "You want the sword?"

"Give it to us," Harlock demanded, reaching out his hand. "Now."

Kai gripped the hilt. The golden light of the sword flared, illuminating the terrified faces of the council members.

"Clara," Kai said, not taking his eyes off Harlock. "What does the Script say happens next?"

"What? Kai, what are you talking about?" Clara asked, backing away.

"The Script," Kai repeated. "The Hero is supposed to be humbled, right? He’s supposed to give up the sword to prove his nobility, then earn it back through a trial of fire. Isn’t that how the story goes?"

"Kai, you’re acting strange," Leo said, entering the tent with a worried look. "Just give them the sword for now. We can settle this tomorrow."

Kai looked at Leo. Even his loyal shield was following the lines.

"No," Kai said.

He drew Sunbringer. The sound of steel on leather was like a thunderclap in the small space. The council members scrambled back, Harlock reaching for his own blade.

"You’re drawing blood in the council tent?" Harlock gasped. "That’s treason!"

"It’s a rewrite," Kai said.

He didn’t attack Harlock. Instead, he pointed the sword at the ground. "If any of you think you can hold this sword, come and take it. But I warn you—the Audience is watching. And they don’t like boring characters."

"Audience? What audience?" Silas stammered.

"The ones who decide if you live or die in the next Chapter," Kai said.

Suddenly, a red notification flashed in Kai’s eyes.

[Alert: The Auditor is intervening.]

[Script Change: Harlock is now ’Possessed by Justice.’]

Harlock’s eyes suddenly turned a dull, static grey. His muscles bulged, and a silver aura, identical to the Auditor’s robes, surrounded him. He drew his sword, his movements no longer human.

"For the true Script!" Harlock shouted, his voice echoing with a hollow, metallic ring.

He lunged at Kai. The attack was faster than anything a normal human could achieve.

"Kai! Move!" Clara screamed, casting a shield spell.

The silver blade slammed into Clara’s shield, shattering it instantly. Clara was thrown back, hitting the tent wall.

"Clara!" Leo shouted, rushing to her side.

Kai met Harlock’s blade with Sunbringer. The collision sent sparks flying, the gold and silver energies clashing in a violent display.

"So this is how you play, Auditor?" Kai hissed, his teeth grit against the pressure. "You turn the puppets into killers?"

Harlock—or whatever was controlling him—didn’t answer. He just pushed harder, his strength increasing by the second.

"Kill him!" Silas shouted from the corner. "He’s a demon! Look at his eyes!"

Kai looked at his own reflection in Harlock’s silver blade. His eyes weren’t golden. They were a dark, swirling void, reflecting the stolen Screen Time.

"You want a demon?" Kai growled. "I’ll show you a demon."

He didn’t push back against Harlock’s strength. He dropped his guard, letting Harlock’s blade slide past his shoulder, slicing through his tunic and skin.

[Audience Reaction: Gasps! "Is he giving up?"]

"Got you," Kai whispered.

He grabbed Harlock’s wrist with his free hand, his grip like iron. With Sunbringer, he didn’t strike Harlock. He struck the ’Silver Aura’ surrounding him.

"Script Insight: Delete!"

Kai channeled his Screen Time not into physical force, but into a ’System Command.’ He attacked the Auditor’s influence directly.

The silver aura flickered and died. Harlock’s eyes returned to normal, his strength vanishing instantly. He stumbled, looking confused and terrified.

"What... what happened?" Harlock gasped, dropping his sword.

Kai stood over him, blood dripping from his shoulder, Sunbringer glowing with a fierce, predatory light. He looked at Silas, then at the other council members.

"The next person who tries to take this sword," Kai said, his voice cold enough to freeze the air. "Won’t just lose the fight. They’ll be written out of the story entirely. Am I clear?"

Silas fell to his knees, trembling. Harlock crawled away, unable to meet Kai’s gaze.

"Kai..." Clara whispered, looking at him with a mixture of fear and awe. "What was that? That wasn’t magic."

"It was the truth, Clara," Kai said, sheathing his sword. "The truth that this world is a cage. And I’m the only one with the key."

He walked out of the tent, leaving the council in ruins. Outside, the night was silent, but Kai could feel the Auditor’s gaze from the shadows.

[Audience Reaction: Hyped! "He just fought the System and won!"]

[Screen Time Gained: +2 Hours]

"One-zero, Auditor," Kai whispered to the wind. "Your move."
