“Fairies?” Jordan repeated, more curious.

Gabe sighed, “It’s nothing you two should know about” Emily frowned, “We’ll find out some other way” “What happened between you and the fairies?” Jordan asked, eager to hear the story.

Gabe’s usual calm and friendly smile was replaced with a deep frown.Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“You two should go.

It’s not your place to know”, he grumbled.

“Gabe-“.

Jordan grabbed Emily’s arm before she could protest and quickly spoke the words they needed for the cube to take them back.

Emily turned to Jordan angrily, and tried to take the cube from him, “Why did you do that?

I wanted to know more about the fairies!” Jordan grimaced, holding the cube high up above his head, “You need to learn how to read someone, Emily.

He didn’t want to talk about it” “But I did!” Jordan snapped and shoved her away harshly, “Not everything is about you!” Emily’s eyes widened, as she stood there frozen in shock, staring at Jordan who was breathing heavily.

“You’re just scared he was gonna yell at us!” Said Emily.

“I’m not scared of that!

Emily, if someone asked you about Grace’s party, what would you say?” Jordan spat, angered by his friend’s childish behavior.

Emily’s breath hitched and her blood ran cold, “I-I don’t like…” She finally relaxed her hardened stance and fiddled with her fingers, “I don’t like remembering Grace’s party” Jordan’s eyes softened as he saw her relax and gain a cool head, “Mister Gabe is also like you.

Remembering the fairies for him is like…” he paused, taking a moment to shuffle the cube a little, “Remembering Grace’s party…

for you” Emily bit her lip and soon after, was heard a sigh, “I’m…

I’m sorry, Jordy” Jordan smiled, “It’s fine, Emily.

Cake?” Emily giggled and the two left hand in hand, leaving the cube behind, to the famous bakery, known for its exquisite recipes.

The bell jingled as soon as they walked through the door.

Emily greeted the man at the counter, who looked happy to see her.

“Emily, nice to see you” he said with his heavy french accent.

Emily greeted him back, “Mr.

Pierre!”, but she was quickly cut short by the man, “Monsieur Pierre”, he corrected her, emphasizing the title.

Although, Monsieur Pierre worked with flour all day, he surprisingly managed to always stay neat and tidy, earning Jordan’s admiration.

The baker had a constant red face, so it was hard to tell the true color of his skin.

Maybe if he would wear clothes suitable for the summer, but he insisted that all bakers in his small French town wear the traditional long sleeved baker’s uniform.

He was taller than Emily’s dad, but they couldn’t be too sure with him always wearing the hat.

He had a stylish mustache on his face as well, which he loved to stroke.

“What can I do for mes enfants today?” He addressed them, smirking and resting his fat double chin on his hand.

“Cake?” Emily begged, and Monsieur Pierre chuckled heartily.

“Why don’t you just ask your mom to make you some?” Emily pursed put her lips, “Daddy won’t let me have cake.

He says I take too much…

uh…” Emily struggled with the word, and Jordan filled in the blank, “Sugars…” Monsieur Pierre brought out two plates of delicious looking slices of cake.

He laughed and placed it in Emily’s grabbing hands, “Like bread and butter, you two are.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you got married someday” Jordie turned red at that.

It wasn’t the thought of getting married to his best friend that made him blush, but the talk of marriage on its own was embarrassing.

He was just a kid, why would they make him worry over something like this.

Emily on the other hand, shook her head fiercely, “Jordie and I can’t get married.

We’re best friends”.

Jordan smiled softly as he took the cake she handed to him.

The two walked out of the shop, Emily talking away about her story while Jordan silently ate his cake, and gathering his thoughts.

He too, wanted to know what happened between the elves and the fairies…

but this wasn’t the business of an eight year old.

“Are you gonna take a bite outta that?” Emily snapped Jordan out of his thoughts.

He wordlessly gave her his slice of cake, and they walked back to Emily’s house.
