Chapter 1: A Monster Dies, but A King Is Born

school of battles

At the end of the day, all blood has the same wetness...

These were the last words on the mind of the greatest Mafia boss as his eyes slowly shut close, never to open in this world again.

To say he did not regret it would be a lie.

He had done it. He had finally done it.

At the young age of thirty five, he conquered the underworld of all countries under the sun, becoming the first full underworld king.

Money had become just another paper to him, and power another instrument to get what he wanted.

However, like most rich and powerful men, he had rich men’s problems.

How was he to use his vast wealth when everything could be easily acquired and therefore not exciting?

With nothing else to pursue, he dove into the collection of artifacts.

One such artifact was a bloody eye ring called Osiris eye.

Legend had it that this had the guiding rule to becoming a True King.

One day, as he was lost in the admiration of this ring, his mind touched upon an enlightenment of sorts: It is lonely at the top.

He discovered he had become bored with all the killing, his climbing to the top had been tainted by it, and so he decided to end the bloodshed.

In his new reform, he even decided to pardon those he would have normally killed.

Taking life had become inadequate for him and he wanted more than that, but even he did not know what more he wanted.

A part of him hated how he had climbed to the top, and seeing the kind of life he had lived, made him depressed.

In other words, he discovered that the peak he had done despicable things to reach was nothing but loneliness and boredom.

He now understood why history had stories of many gods coming down to play with mortals.

Those heavenly beings must have had a strong mix of what he was feeling now.

Other wealthy people invited him to private islands to play sick perverted games, but the enlightenment he achieved plagued his interest more.

Soon, he stopped impacting fear, and even his followers, ever sharp to his emotions, moods, and feelings, sensed this shift.

They knew that their master no longer desired power and this sowed the seed of rebellion in their ambitious hearts.

Soon enough, one amongst them came up with the idea of stabbing the Mafia boss in the back.

Of course, this was not a new thing in the Cartels, but the Mafia boss had become too relaxed on the throne.

It struck sooner than he expected.

Guns blazed and blood formed rivers.

An ambush of hundreds of men surrounded him in his home.

Like any other person in such a situation, he fought hard for his life, and he fought well.

His guns spat out the venom of bullets and each bullet that left the muzzle represented the fall of life.

But his enemies had planned well and hard.

He was soon loaded with bullets and when he turned to look, he was surprised to see that it was from the people he had spared.

His kindness had been paid with the unkind smile of his enemies.

Dropping in a pool of his own blood mixed with the blood of hundreds of both followers and enemies, he couldn’t help but stare once more into the eye of Osiris.

At that moment of his death, he achieved yet another form of enlightenment.

"A King ends in the manner he is built."

And as the light slowly exited his eyes, he instantly swore that if he had another opportunity, he would do it differently.

He would climb wiser and better.

Unknown to him, the ruby eye of Osiris glowed slightly in its deep crimson, absorbing the river of blood that flowed beneath it.

When next he found his sight, he was standing in the void before a huge pyramid the size of a huge mountain so high he could not see the tip.

With all his height and hunk of a man, he looked like nothing but an insignificant ant before the Pyramid.

And then a voice spoke in his head, a strange other worldly whisper.

Clearly, it spoke in a foreign language, but for some reason, the Mafia Boss could very well understand it. Like it was talking directly to his soul and not his ears.

{Welcome To The Pyramid of Kings}

"What important attribute must a king have?"

A. Fear

B. Respect

C. loyalty

D. Love

>>You have only one try. Get the right answer and you may enter the Pyramid of Kings. Get the wrong answer and your soul will be shredded to dust<<

The Mafia boss thought hard at the question.

He wanted to stretch his hand to pick an answer, but his fingers retreated.

Something did not feel right.

After thinking for hours on end. Going as far as to remember how his life had been and the decisions he made, he sighed loudly as he came to a conclusion that he had to admit even surprised him.

Looking up at the Pyramid, he answered, "None! None of these things."

The moment he said that he could feel a subtle wind start to blow and he noticed that his soul had started to crack like little pieces of wet paper.

"Wait! Wait!! you didn’t let me finish! You didn’t let me finish!!"

The subtle wind slowed to a stop.

The Mafia boss’s body was only left with a torso.

"It’s a trick question. None of them are the most important because all of them are necessary in their own right."

The mafia boss sighed loudly.

"A King should be feared by his enemies. He should be respected by his allies, he should have the loyalty of his subordinates and lastly, he should be loved by his people.

Not one of them can exist without the other, and that was the mistake I made in my life. I neglected these fundamentals.

I only ruled with fear."

The Mafia boss bowed his head in shame.

A few seconds passed.

To his surprise, parts of his body that had disappeared appeared once again and a small golden door appeared at the base of the Pyramid.

Then the Mafia Boss felt a suction force from the Pyramid and he was pulled into the large doors.

The very first thing he noticed when he got inside was that the walls of the pyramid were made entirely of glistering gold.

The golden walls were decorated in a foreign language, yet for some reason he didn’t know, he could perfectly understand this language.

These were not just the usual writings on the wall. These were names of great men and women that had come and passed through these doors long before him.

On the walls were names and titles like: Alexander the Great, King Solomon the Wise, Empress Wu Zetian the Untouchable, Mansa Musa the Generous, Genghis Khan the Unifier, Suleiman the Magnificent, and Catherine the Great.

There were many such iconic names carved on the golden walls.

As a person that enjoyed owning a collection of ancient artifacts, he was not new to such incredible individuals.

Many names he recognized, and even others he did not. This was a long hallway with very high ceilings that he could not see.

However as he continued to walk forward, he was surprised to see a small house.

In the magnificence of such a place, this small house was definitely standing out. In fact, it was so out of place that calling it a house was even too much of an exaggeration.

Its roof was made out of straws, its wall was mud and it had a wooden door that had the inscription: PAUPER on it.

The moment he got close enough, the door opened prompting him to go inside. Yet again to his surprise, this small hut as he would like to think of it was as spacious as the hall outside.

Only this time around, it was made entirely of water. He did not know why, but he knew that he was drawn to the water and the moment he took a foot into it, it pulled him in.

To his surprise, the water burnt his skin like lava would a piece of paper. He felt like he was being crushed and molded again and again, and just when he thought he would pass out from the pain, he suddenly heard a feminine robotic voice.

Utada The Terrible, a man of reputation as incredible as his huge muscular size, and chief of the Iga Ninja Clan, walked into the room.

His Concubine had just birthed him a child. The tender smell of expensive medicinal intense filled the air.

He had ordered that only the best doctors and midwives attended to her.

Why?

Before this birth, Utada had received a prophecy from the clan’s seer that this child was going to carry the purest bloodline in the history of the Iga ninja clan.

Utada had been so excited, waiting months for the child to be born had been a kind of torture for him.

However, the moment the child arrived, the child’s mother was rushed out of the room.

Even the Midwives and the servants hurried out of the room in panic.

In the words of one of the midwives, "Something abominable is wrong with that child."

Utada walked into the room to see for himself.

But to his disappointment, he could not find what was wrong with the child. His huge hand lifted the child up by a foot.

He turned the infant around, allowing his mana to trace the child’s body.

Unlike Utada who had red hair and beards, this child had hair the color of snow, and extremely pale skin.

Utada did not understand what was so wrong with the child that all the women were running.

Even worse, he could not feel a single trace of mana from the child’s body.

It was like the child’s mana veins were dried up and withered like an old tree.

"Useless trash." Utada muttered angrily to himself.

He was starting to think that the clan’s seer was nothing but a cheap liar.

If she lied about this one, he could only imagine what other thing she lied about.

A child of a great chief with no mana?

Utada immediately sealed the child’s fate in his head.

He would dump this useless thing in the river.

Just then, he heard a commotion outside the birthroom.

It was his mother—grandmother to the child.

For personal reasons, Utada had forbidden her from meeting this child.

Right now, his first son was preventing her from entering the room, just as he had ordered.

But the old woman was causing a ruckus outside.

Utada groaned, dropped the child in disappointment and went outside to settle the commotion.

However, the moment he left the room, an assassin materialized from the wall like a shadow.

Bringing out his blade with the intention of slitting the child’s throat.

He made his way to the child, raised the knife, but before he could do the deed, the child’s eyes suddenly changed color from ocean blue to deep crimson.

Utada was talking with his mother outside when he heard a loud DUD sound from the birth room.

Utada was the chief of an assassin clan, his senses were sharp. A forbidden feeling instantly arose in his heart and he rushed back into the birth room.

The first thing that washed over him was the very intense aura of death and blood. It was so thick that he could practically see the dark red hue fill the room.

On the floor was the Assassin bleeding from his eyes and mouth, red smoke leaving his body.

The assassin was very dead.

Utada walked toward the child.

Now, he could see it clearly.

The child’s eyes were a beautiful glowing crimson. "Devil’s eyes!" he whispered "And it is so pure too."

A smile stained the lips and then it bloomed into thunderous laughter that shook the foundations of the room.

"Yes! This is it! This is the one to inherit my Great Iga ninja clan."

Utada picked the baby, this time with more love in his eyes, "Boy! You smell of blood and death, And I like it."

The baby cried.

Utada swayed the child gently, "Yes! Yes!!Those are the tears of greatness. I permit you to cry even louder.

In fact, henceforth, I’ll call you Ohta. For you are untainted, but still, carry the eyes of the Blood Devil God."

He laughed loudly again, strolling out of the room. "Bring my heir his mother’s milk..."

However, as Utada strolled out of the room, his first son watched closely, fist tightening behind his back in anger...
