After Wen Chi had the surrounding zombies retreat, Jiang Yi and Dou Dou finally got out of the car.

“Let’s check out that building.”

The three of them walked into the skyscraper. Strangely, the elevator still worked, which made Wen Chi think of that zombie hotel.Full novel: Secretly a Half-Zombie in the Apocalypse, the Mad Villain Fell for Me — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

However, along the way, the three saw no sign of zombies.

“Strange, this isn’t right. How is there not a single zombie here?!”

They randomly pressed a floor button, and the elevator opened to an empty office floor, filled only with desks and computers.

As the three were about to leave,

the elevator numbers suddenly indicated they had reached the top floor.

When the doors opened, the three saw a pair of red eyes staring intently at them.

Wen Chi immediately stepped forward to block Jiang Yi and Dou Dou, then said:

“Hello? Zombie Brother? We mean no harm. Can you let us leave now?”

The suit-clad zombie looked at Wen Chi, then slowly opened its mouth and spoke human words:

“No.”

Wen Chi immediately understood—this was no ordinary zombie. Who among the living zombies could speak human words?

Except for her… the defective one.

“Run!”

Wen Chi shouted, and the three dashed toward the stairwell.

But no human speed could match a zombie’s. If it were a normal zombie, they’d have been instantly killed.

This zombie moved like it had a cheat code—within moments, it caught the back of Wen Chi’s jacket.

Wen Chi thought quickly, hugging the zombie’s pant leg, giving Jiang Yi and Dou Dou time to escape.

“Run! I’m fine!”

Jiang Yi glanced at Wen Chi, then picked up Dou Dou and ran downward.

She wasn’t a cruel person; she knew staying behind would only cause Wen Chi more trouble.

Besides, she saw both Jiang Jiming and Xu Qiaofeng’s squads following them. Seeking help was the only option.

Once the two had run far enough, Wen Chi clung to the zombie’s leg, looking up to speak:

“Zombie Big Brother, you surely know I’m not human. Please spare me. Why should one of us make things difficult for another?”

“Right?”

She blinked her large eyes at him.

“You are interesting.”

The zombie looked down at the little one clinging to his leg and smiled.

Then, ignoring Wen Chi, he lifted his leg and continued forward.

The force lifted Wen Chi off the ground, forcing her to cling tightly to his thigh.

She realized that although this zombie could have easily caught Jiang Yi and Dou Dou, he hadn’t.

Clearly, his target from the start was her.

Wen Chi was forced to ride the elevator to the top floor with him.

They entered an office-like space, and from the zombie’s attire, Wen Chi deduced:

This was another domineering CEO zombie!

The zombie placed her aside, sat in the boss chair, and began examining documents.

Ah! A workaholic * domineering CEO zombie.

Seeing that he hadn’t moved for a while, Wen Chi finally sat down.

The desk was thoughtfully decorated with various human limbs and blood-filled wine bottles.

So classy.

“Why aren’t you eating?”

Wen Chi spoke to the zombie, who still hadn’t lifted his head from the documents.

“Uh… I actually ate before coming. I’m not very hungry.”

“Hahaha, thank you, Zombie Brother ^_^~”

Wen Chi quickly explained. The less she exposed herself as different from him, the better.

The zombie glanced at her, then lowered his head back to the documents.

Wen Chi noticed a desk nameplate: CEO Liang Songnian.

Before the apocalypse, this person must have been very prestigious. Even as a zombie, he stayed at his desk working.

Ah, another chosen office worker.

He showed no intention of harming her, but why bring her up here?

Compared to the other zombies Wen Chi had encountered, this one was far more advanced.

He could speak, think, and might even have abilities.

Wen Chi had no idea what level zombie he was.

Soon, Liang Songnian seemed to sense what Wen Chi was thinking,

set the documents aside, and looked at her.

“Level five.”

Wen Chi’s eyes widened. How did he know what she was thinking? Could this be his ability?!

“Yes.”

Another short reply followed.

Liang Songnian’s voice had not become the raspy sound of a zombie—it was a normal young man’s voice.

Wen Chi immediately stopped letting her mind wander.

“Why did you bring me here? You must have sensed I’m a zombie.”

“Companionship.”

Liang Songnian paused a long time before answering Wen Chi’s question.

When he awakened, Liang Songnian saw familiar places, but no familiar people.

They had all turned into the low-level zombies outside.

He felt lonely. He didn’t want that.

He wanted to talk to someone like him.

But he knew the outside zombies were mindless fools.

No matter what he said, they wouldn’t listen. Only when giving orders would they comply.

Only she—when he first saw her—he knew she was like him.

They were advanced beings, meant to accompany each other.

Not like those disgusting humans.

She was meant for him.

Even though her aura was a little unusual.

“You’re lonely, aren’t you?”

Wen Chi asked aloud what she had been thinking.

Liang Songnian nodded.

“Why aren’t you eating?!”

All of this food was carefully chosen to welcome her.

Wen Chi stiffened again. Before, she could make excuses, but now she couldn’t.

At that moment, Liang Songnian suddenly stood, squinting his eyes, and said in a low voice:

“More bugs have come~”

Wen Chi felt the ground tremble. She ran to the floor-to-ceiling window

and saw countless zombies swarming toward the building.

Some had broken legs but still crawled persistently.

What was the difference between this and a zombie tide?

She turned and saw Liang Songnian, who had been standing before, was gone.

The “bugs” he mentioned were likely Xu Qiaofeng and his team.

Wen Chi tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside.

Truly a high-level zombie, meticulous down to this detail.

But she couldn’t leave.

Then, the sound of breaking glass rang out.

A hole was smashed in the floor-to-ceiling window.

Jiang Jiming, rope tied around his waist, climbed through the broken window.

Seeing Wen Chi, he immediately checked to see if his treasure was hurt.

“Jiang Jiming!”

“What are you doing here?!”

Wen Chi hadn’t expected the big shot to hold grudges and chase all the way here. She thought, maybe she shouldn’t have drugged him.

Before she got an answer, Wen Chi heard the door behind her open.

Liang Songnian had returned.

He was dragging someone, but probably due to urgency, he hadn’t killed him.

Wen Chi immediately recognized the familiar figure on the floor as the sharp-tongued boy from Xu Qiaofeng’s squad—Gu Wang.
