After Jiang Jiming carried Wen Chi back into the room and sat for a while, he heard movement at the door.
He frowned slightly, then lowered his gaze toward Wen Chi on the bed. The irritation in his eyes was completely replaced by love.
Seeing her soft, red lips, like jelly, Jiang Jiming’s throat went dry.
Unable to resist, he lowered his head and gently kissed the lips he had long coveted.
“Wenwen, wait for me.”
Outside the room, the smile on his face instantly froze into a cold expression as he walked toward the source of the sound.
At the villa’s main entrance,
Shen Xi and her group had followed them to the villa complex. Up until now, they hadn’t encountered many zombies along the way.
Xu Qiaofeng stood at the front, blocking Jiang Yanming, who seemed about to clash with Chi Ye.
But his gaze kept flicking toward the villa.
Behind Chi Ye stood A-Lou and the others.
Seeing Jiang Jiming descend, Chi Ye immediately acted as if he had found the backbone of the group and stepped forward to complain:
“Leader, these people are insisting on coming in to see Sister-in-law.
I told them she was sleeping, but they still wanted to force their way in!”
Jiang Yanming immediately countered:
“Sleeping? It’s broad daylight! How could she be sleeping? Besides, she just went through all that; she still looked full of energy earlier.
I think you’re hiding our captain’s childhood sweetheart from him, keeping them apart.
This is immoral. Our captain and his childhood friend have grown up together—innocent and inseparable.
Mr. Jiang, are you trying to play the third party?!”
Jiang Yanming had followed Xu Qiaofeng since childhood. Although he hadn’t seen the captain’s mysterious childhood sweetheart, he knew exactly how much the captain liked her.
So much that every year he would spend a night at the Wen family villa.
So much that, in the apocalypse, he was willing to leave the base alone to find her.
So much that he risked his life to save her.
“What third party? Can you watch your mouth!”
Chi Ye despised hypocrites, and this was his Leader—they had no right to insult him.
He was about to confront this person who always brought up the childhood sweetheart.
Jiang Jiming, hearing this, seemed to hear something utterly absurd. His words were sharp and teeth-gritting.
A few glints of icy intent flashed in his eyes, as if he could pierce everyone in front of him.
“So what?
I am an immoral person.”
Jiang Jiming’s words directly answered all of Jiang Yanming’s accusations.
Xu Qiaofeng, surprised that he would speak like that, gripped Jiang Yanming’s hand slightly tighter but continued gently:
“Mr. Jiang is indeed straightforward.
However, Little Chi is not an object. We should ask her—does she wish to go with me or with you?
Isn’t that right, Little Chi?”
Xu Qiaofeng smiled at Jiang Jiming and spoke gently, his eyes filled with confidence.
Confident that Little Chi would choose him—after all, as a child, she had always clung to him.
Jiang Jiming, hearing Xu Qiaofeng, immediately turned around and saw Wen Chi, who should have still been on the bed, now at the doorway.
She was looking at them.
A trace of panic flashed in Jiang Jiming’s eyes, his hands clenched tightly.
Then he looked at Wen Chi, his gaze filled with unspoken possessiveness and love.
Wen Chi felt the scorching gaze but did not look back. She simply walked forward, passing A-Lou and Chi Ye.
Chi Ye frowned seeing her move.
“Sister-in-law, you…”
Before he could finish, A-Lou covered his mouth.
As Wen Chi passed Jiang Jiming, he grabbed her wrist. Wen Chi immediately felt the heat through his grip.
Unable to pull away, she had no choice but to speak.
“Brother Qiaofeng, I won’t go with you. You should go back first.”
The statement was clear—Wen Chi had chosen Jiang Jiming.
Jiang Jiming, who had been planning how to deal with everyone and how to lock Wenwen away if she chose Xu Qiaofeng, lifted his head in disbelief, his eyes shimmering like rippling water.
Xu Qiaofeng first looked at Wen Chi in shock, then quickly adjusted, looking at her gently, supporting all her choices.
“Alright. If you change your mind later, come to Beijing Base to find me, or I will come to find you.”
Wen Chi nodded, lowering her head, unable to look at the sadness in Xu Qiaofeng’s eyes.
He had come all this way for her, yet she refused to go with him, and worse, caused him pain because of her choice.
She felt guilty. Originally, she had planned to go to Beijing Base with Jiang Yi and the others along with Xu Qiaofeng.
But that extra thing in her mind made it impossible for her to leave.
Fate truly had other plans.
Wen Chi silently watched the Bright Light Squad leave. Chi Ye glared arrogantly at Jiang Yanming, while the other hung his head in frustration.
After everyone left, Wen Chi turned to face Jiang Jiming, who was still holding her hand.
“Boss? Can you let go now?”
She looked up at him with wide, pleading eyes.
Jiang Jiming released her hand. His beautiful peach-blossom eyes briefly flickered with a tiny smile, fleeting and almost imperceptible—if not for Wen Chi staring at him, she might have thought it was her imagination.
“Why didn’t you go with him?”
Clearly, you don’t like me.
Jiang Jiming could tell that Wen Chi’s gaze toward him held no affection—only fear, appeasement, and caution.
“Because… I like you!”
Wen Chi blurted out the words. Everyone else immediately scattered, afraid that hearing something they shouldn’t would get them killed.
Jiang Jiming looked at her serious eyes, which contained nothing but sincerity.
“Good.
Little liar.
Better trick me your whole life, don’t give up halfway.”
Wen Chi, seeing that Jiang Jiming’s expression hadn’t changed after her confession, couldn’t help but silently complain to the little sphere in her mind:
【Do you think I can really succeed?】
【Host, I believe in you.】
【As long as you succeed, you can leave this world and return to reality, becoming a real person.】
Indeed, during her fainting earlier, a small sphere appeared in Wen Chi’s mind, claiming to be a system.
It told her that the world she was in was just a novel. The male lead was Xu Qiaofeng, the female lead was Shen Xi, and she was just the cannon-fodder “white moonlight” of the story.
Whose white moonlight? The super villain Jiang Jiming’s.
The very reason the villain was trying to destroy the world.
She couldn’t believe it—she was the white moonlight… of Jiang Jiming.
A literal moonlight clan, perhaps.
The truth was, because last time she had lazed around at home and not followed the novel’s plot to meet the villain, let him fall in love with her, and then be killed by the male lead, she was given a second chance.
A chance to replay the story, to play her role as the cannon-fodder white moonlight, and become one of the sources of the villain’s complete blackening.
But! Why should she die all over again?!
