Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “The cars are coming closer to us.

They are moving very fast.”

Damien Vance looked out the back window of the limousine.

Damien Vance frowned with his dark eyes.

Damien Vance said to Leo Chang, “Drive faster right now.

Do not let them stop us.”

Leo Chang said to Damien Vance, “Yes, Mr.

Vance.

I will drive faster immediately.”

Leo Chang pressed his right foot hard onto the gas pedal.

The long black limousine accelerated forward.

The heavy engine made a loud roaring sound.

Evelyn Ross felt the entire car shake under her seat.

The first black enemy car sped up quickly.

The first black enemy car drove right next to the right side of the limousine.

The driver of the first black enemy car turned his steering wheel hard to the left.

The front bumper of the first black enemy car crashed into the right side of the limousine.

A loud metal crunching sound echoed inside the limousine.

Bright yellow sparks flew outside the window.

Evelyn Ross screamed loudly because of the sudden impact.

Evelyn Ross lost her balance on the soft leather seat.

Evelyn Ross fell toward the side of the car.

Damien Vance reached out his strong arms quickly.

Damien Vance grabbed Evelyn Ross by her shoulders.

Damien Vance pulled Evelyn Ross down toward the floor of the limousine.

Damien Vance covered Evelyn Ross’s body with his own big body to protect her from any breaking glass.

Evelyn Ross felt the warmth of Damien Vance’s body.

Evelyn Ross smelled his expensive wood cologne.

Evelyn Ross heard the fast thumping sound of his heartbeat.

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “Stay down on the floor.

Do not move at all.”

Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “I am very scared.

Who are those people in the black cars?”

Damien Vance did not answer Evelyn Ross’s question.

Damien Vance looked up at the front seat of the car.

Damien Vance shouted to Leo Chang, “Destroy that enemy car right now.”

Leo Chang replied to Damien Vance, “Yes, Mr.

Vance.

Hold on tightly to the seats.”

Leo Chang gripped the black steering wheel with both of his hands.

Leo Chang looked at the right side mirror of the limousine.

The first black enemy car tried to hit the limousine a second time.

The first black enemy car moved closer to the right side of the limousine.

Leo Chang reacted quickly to the attack.

Leo Chang turned the steering wheel hard to the right side.

The heavy limousine smashed hard into the front door of the first black enemy car.

The heavy impact made a booming sound like an explosion.

The strong steel of the limousine crushed the front door of the first black enemy car completely.

The side window of the first black enemy car broke into thousands of tiny pieces of glass.

The driver of the first black enemy car lost total control of his vehicle.

The first black enemy car began to spin around and around on the wet asphalt road.

The first black enemy car slid off the side of the road.

The first black enemy car hit a tall metal streetlamp with great force.

The tall metal streetlamp bent completely in half.

A bright orange fire exploded from the crushed engine of the first black enemy car.

The first black enemy car stopped moving completely.

The fire burned the black paint off the vehicle.

Evelyn Ross looked through the back window of the limousine.

Evelyn Ross saw the bright orange fire on the road.

Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “One enemy car is gone.

But two more black cars are still chasing us very closely.”

Damien Vance looked at the remaining two black cars through the glass.

The two black cars stayed right behind the limousine.

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “They will not stop easily.

They are trained professionals.”

Evelyn Ross sat up slowly on the leather seat.

Evelyn Ross adjusted Damien Vance’s black suit jacket around her shivering shoulders.

Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “Why are they chasing us in the middle of the night?

Is this because of the contract I signed?”

Damien Vance sat back on his leather seat.

Damien Vance smoothed his black hair down with his hand.

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “Yes, Miss Ross.

My biggest business enemy is Julian Sterling.

Julian Sterling wants that contract.”

Evelyn Ross replied to Damien Vance, “Why does Julian Sterling want the contract so badly?”

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “Because this contract gives me total control over your family’s remaining land.

Julian Sterling wants that land to build his own business empire.

He will kill people to get it.”

Evelyn Ross felt a cold shiver run down her spine.

Evelyn Ross gripped the black jacket tightly.

Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “You did not tell me that your enemies were killers before I signed the paper.”

Damien Vance replied to Evelyn Ross, “You wanted a savior, Miss Ross.

Danger is the price of my protection.”

Lawyer Vance Jenkins looked at his gold watch.

Lawyer Vance Jenkins looked out the front window of the car.

Lawyer Vance Jenkins said to Damien Vance, “Mr.

Vance, we are two minutes away from your private mansion.

Leo Chang can outrun them on the private road.”

Damien Vance said to Lawyer Vance Jenkins, “Tell the gate guards to prepare their weapons immediately.”

Lawyer Vance Jenkins picked up a black radio transmitter from his bag.

Lawyer Vance Jenkins spoke into the transmitter quickly.

Lawyer Vance Jenkins said into the radio, “Open the main iron gates right now.

The enemies are right behind us.”

The limousine turned sharply onto a private dark road.

The dark road had tall green trees on both sides.

Leo Chang pressed the gas pedal down to the floor again.

The limousine sped up to its maximum speed.

Evelyn Ross saw massive black iron gates ahead of them.

The black iron gates began to swing open slowly.

The limousine flew through the open gates.

The rubber tires made a loud screeching sound on the stone driveway.

The two remaining black enemy cars tried to follow the limousine through the open gates.

Suddenly, ten heavy guards in black uniforms ran out from the stone guardhouses.

The ten guards held large black rifles in their hands.

The guards pointed their rifles directly at the windshields of the two enemy cars.

The drivers of the two black enemy cars saw the rifles.

The drivers stepped on their brakes very hard.

The tires of the enemy cars smoked on the stone road.

The two black enemy cars turned around quickly and drove away into the dark night.

Evelyn Ross saw the enemy cars leave through the back window.

Evelyn Ross let out a deep breath of air.

Evelyn Ross said to Damien Vance, “They are gone now.

We are safe.”

Damien Vance replied to Evelyn Ross, “We are safe inside my gates.

But you can never leave this property without my permission again.”

The limousine stopped in front of a massive white stone mansion.

The mansion had bright golden lights shining in every window.

Mark Davis opened his car door and stepped out onto the driveway.

Mark Davis walked to the back door of the vehicle.

Mark Davis opened the limousine door for Damien Vance and Evelyn Ross.

Mark Davis said to Damien Vance, “We have arrived safely at the estate, Mr.

Vance.”

Damien Vance stepped out of the limousine first.

Damien Vance offered his right hand to Evelyn Ross.

Evelyn Ross took Damien Vance’s hand.

His hand felt warm and very strong.

Evelyn Ross stepped out of the car.

Evelyn Ross looked up at the giant white mansion.

The massive wooden front doors of the mansion opened wide.

A woman walked out onto the stone steps.

The woman was Mrs.

Higgins.

Mrs.

Higgins was the head housekeeper of the mansion.

Mrs.

Higgins looked at Damien Vance.

Then Mrs.

Higgins looked at Evelyn Ross.

Mrs.

Higgins saw Evelyn Ross’s wet hair.

Mrs.

Higgins saw the wet champagne stains on her dress.

Mrs.

Higgins said to Damien Vance, “Welcome home, Mr.

Vance.

Who is this young lady with you?”

Damien Vance said to Mrs.

Higgins, “This is Evelyn Ross.

She is my special guest.

She will live in this house now.”

Mrs.

Higgins looked shocked by the news.

Mrs.

Higgins looked at Evelyn Ross’s ruined clothes again.

Mrs.

Higgins said to Evelyn Ross, “You look freezing cold, Miss Ross.

Come inside the warm house immediately.”

Evelyn Ross replied to Mrs.

Higgins, “Thank you, Mrs.

Higgins.

I am very cold.”

They all walked inside the grand entrance hall of the mansion.

Evelyn Ross saw white marble floors and a giant curved staircase.

Damien Vance turned his head and looked at Mark Davis.

Damien Vance said to Mark Davis, “Double the number of guards around the house tonight.

Julian Sterling will try to attack again soon.”

Mark Davis replied to Damien Vance, “Yes, Mr.

Vance.

I will tell the security team right now.”

Mark Davis walked away toward the security room down the hall.

Damien Vance turned his body toward Evelyn Ross.

Damien Vance pointed his finger toward the large stairs.

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “Follow me to the master bedroom upstairs.

You need to dry your hair.”

Evelyn Ross followed Damien Vance up the wide marble stairs.

Her wet shoes made soft clicking sounds on the stone.

Damien Vance opened a heavy dark wooden door at the end of the long hallway.

Inside, the master bedroom was huge.

It had a giant bed with white sheets, dark curtains, and a large wooden desk.

Damien Vance said to Evelyn Ross, “Wait here in this room.

I will ask Mrs.

Higgins to bring you some clean clothes.”

Damien Vance walked out of the bedroom.

Damien Vance closed the heavy door behind him.

Evelyn Ross stood completely alone in the quiet bedroom.

Evelyn Ross looked around the large dark space.

Evelyn Ross walked slowly toward the large wooden desk near the window.

On top of the wooden desk, Evelyn Ross saw a small glass drawer.

The glass drawer had a small silver lock on the front.

Evelyn Ross looked through the clear glass of the drawer.

Evelyn Ross saw a shiny object inside.

Evelyn Ross gasped loudly.

Evelyn Ross placed both of her hands over her mouth in shock.

Inside the locked glass drawer sat a beautiful silver necklace.

The silver necklace had a small blue sapphire stone shaped like a star.

Evelyn Ross knew this silver necklace perfectly.

It belonged to her biological mother.

Evelyn Ross had lost this exact necklace five years ago on the night her biological mother died in a terrible house fire.

Evelyn Ross felt hot tears fill her eyes.

Evelyn Ross stared at the blue sapphire stone through the glass.

Evelyn Ross said to herself, “How does Damien Vance have my dead mother’s necklace?

Why has he kept this a secret from me?”
