Chарtеr 11: Маture and Restrаinеd Style
В City Тrаin Stаtiоn.
А burlу man with а fiеrсе-looking fаce stepреd off thе trаin, саrrуing his luggagе.
Нis сlothes wеrе old аnd worn, looking tаtterеd and stained with blаck аnd yеllоw patсhes. It was unclеаr hоw lоng they hаd gоnе unwаshed, and hе emittеd a sour, unрleasаnt odor, аppeаring uttеrlу unkemрt аnd out of plаcе in thе modern surrоundings.
Peоplе nеаrby сoverеd their nosеs аnd mоuths, some with expressions of disgust.
Тhе burly man glared fiеrсely, spеаking in a clumsy accent as he shouted loudly, “What are you looking at! Looking for a fight, huh?”
“Such poor manners!”
The people around silently cursed, all keeping their distance.
It wasn’t out of fear, but rather a sense that there was no need to get involved with someone of such low character.
Zhang Yonggang, however, was quite satisfied with his intimidating effect. He thought smugly to himself, So what if they’re from a big city? They’re still just a bunch of weaklings!
Dragging his heavy luggage out of the train station, he was met with towering buildings and bustling traffic.
Zhang Yonggang greedily surveyed the unfamiliar city.
B City really lives up to being the capital—so prosperous.
Fang Niandi, let’s see where you can run to!
…
Xu Jinhuan looked up at the sky, which was overcast with dark clouds. It seemed rain was imminent.
Today’s desserts were almost sold out, with only some bread left.
Xu Jinhuan carefully packed up the remaining desserts.
The number of customers varied each day, and occasionally there were leftovers. She usually selected the less sugary breads to give to the uncles and aunties at the nearby convenience stores and breakfast shops.
But since the uncles and aunties were older and their children shouldn’t eat sweets too often, she also gave bread and similar items to passing sanitation workers.
After all, she couldn’t finish it all herself, and throwing it away would be wasteful.
Returning to the shop after handing out the last “kindness bread,” a light drizzle had already begun outside.
Xu Jinhuan opened her phone and gently tapped on the keyboard.
[Xu Jinhuan: The egg tarts I saved for you are still here, but it’s raining now. Maybe you shouldn’t come. I’ll make them for you next time.]
[Mr. Wen: Turn around.]
The moment Xu Jinhuan saw the message, she turned around. Her almond-shaped eyes widened slightly, showing surprise and, beyond that, a clear sense of being dazzled.
First, because of his speed, and second, because of his attire.
Xu Jinhuan realized that every time she saw him, he seemed even more handsome than the last.
Sometimes, he wore particularly formal suits; occasionally, his style leaned toward sporty and casual.
Today, however, he showcased another style: a crisp shirt, perfectly tailored trousers, and a jacket draped over his arm.
Beneath the thin gold-rimmed glasses hung a long metal chain, giving him a mature, restrained, and highly scholarly air.
Xu Jinhuan inexplicably felt as though she were standing before a university professor.
“You came so quickly? It takes an hour to get here from your company.”
Wen Yu closed his umbrella, smiling warmly. “I was just at Capital University.”
“Let me take the umbrella,” Xu Jinhuan said as she accepted it and placed it aside, then asked curiously, “Was there an event at Capital University today? Did you attend as an outstanding alumnus?”
“No.”
After entering the shop and sitting down, Wen Yu draped his jacket over the back of the chair. “I did my undergraduate and doctoral studies abroad.”
So Mr. Wen is a Ph.D. How impressive!
Xu Jinhuan took out the packaged desserts and sat down opposite Wen Yu. “Then today, you…”
Wen Yu smiled. “But I’m a guest professor at Capital University.”
Xu Jinhuan’s eyes instantly sparkled with admiration. “Really? You teach too?””Don’t I look like one?” Wen Yu was somewhat amused by the girl’s cuteness.
“You do, and yet you don’t.”
Wen Yu said, “Oh?”
Xu Jinhuan smiled, her eyelashes curving. “I always thought you’d be the type who’s on a business trip today and flying abroad tomorrow—someone so busy that you’re surrounded by work 24/7, with no free time to be a teacher.”
Wen Yu replied, “Logically, that should be the case, but I don’t want to be just a businessman reeking of money.”
“Imperial University supplies our group with a large number of top talents every year. I was invited to teach a few courses on finance and economics, partly to broaden their horizons and also to build a better talent reserve.”
Xu Jinhuan praised sincerely, “You’re amazing!”
Wen Yu smiled wryly. “It’s just that these students are too troublesome. You wouldn’t want to know what I’ve been through.”
“Are there many girls trying to add your WeChat?” Xu Jinhuan guessed, with a hint of curiosity.
Wen Yu sighed lightly. “To be precise, male creatures too.”
“Have young people’s preferences become so bizarre these days?”
