Ji Han Zhuo did not return to the manor all day.

After leaving the estate, he went straight to the company. He had no bad habits, nor any particular interest in entertainment, so he could only vent his frustration on work.

He skipped lunch and worked continuously throughout the day, his face dark and gloomy all the while. In the morning, he rejected several design proposals, and in the afternoon, he berated several executives until they fled. Those who emerged from his office almost always wore expressions of despair.Full novel: Seriously, the Pampered Golden Canary Always Fails to Escape — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

When it was time to leave work in the afternoon, he remained seated in his office, handling documents. Since the president did not leave, the employees in the secretarial office naturally dared not make any rash moves.

In truth, their president did not often come to the company. It was rare for him to stay at the office for an entire day, and they could not quite gauge his temperament.

Their overtime pay was not low, but they usually left work on time. Suddenly having to work overtime was not something they were accustomed to.

By nine o’clock in the evening, someone could no longer hold out. They banded together and went to find Assistant Chen, asking him to gauge the president’s attitude. Unable to withstand their persistence, Chen Zhan went.

Chen Zhan had followed Ji Han Zhuo for many years and understood his temperament well. Their Master Ji was someone who rarely showed his emotions, and the only one who could provoke such a strong reaction from him was the little canary at home—the young lady he cherished.

So, before entering Ji Han Zhuo’s office, Chen Zhan first called Chen Yi to get a better understanding of the situation.

Chen Yi did not want the relationship between the two to deteriorate, so she explained the entire sequence of events in detail.

After listening, Chen Zhan clicked his tongue in amazement. This Miss Jiang was quite principled. The position of Mrs. Ji was something many dreamed of, yet Miss Jiang had outright refused. Truly, she was the woman their Master Ji had set his eyes on—her perspective and taste were indeed extraordinary.

Speaking of which, their Master Ji was rather pitiful. To have his first marriage proposal rejected—any man would be hurt, let alone their proud and lofty Master Ji.

Ahem, but fortunately, their Master Ji had him, the all-around assistant. There was no problem he couldn’t solve.

After preparing his words, Chen Zhan knocked on the door of the president’s office.

“Come in.”

Chen Zhan placed the documents requiring signatures beside Ji Han Zhuo and refilled his coffee cup. Then, he stood in front of Ji Han Zhuo’s desk, waiting for him to finish reading the document in his hands.

Before finishing the document, Ji Han Zhuo looked up, casting a cold, sidelong glance at the person before him.

His voice was low, tinged with clear displeasure. “What is it?”

Chen Zhan first sighed with a hesitant expression before finally speaking. “Master, Chen Yi just called me and said Miss Jiang has locked the master bedroom door. She didn’t eat lunch or dinner, and we don’t know how she’s doing now. Miss Jiang has low blood sugar—do you think she might have fainted?”

As long as he could trick their master into returning home, everything would naturally resolve itself without Miss Jiang having to say a word.

Besides, he wasn’t lying—Miss Jiang truly hadn’t touched her dinner.

Sure enough, Ji Han Zhuo grew anxious. He tossed aside the document in his hand and stood up, walking out while reprimanding sharply, “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

“Uh… I only just found out.”

Upon hearing this, Ji Han Zhuo’s expression turned even colder. “What are the people at the manor even doing?”

Ji Han Zhuo returned to the manor at the fastest possible speed. As soon as he entered, Chen Yi came forward to greet him.

Seeing his furious demeanor, Chen Yi hurriedly advised, “Young Master, Miss didn’t have dinner and has already gone to bed. She seems to be in a very bad mood. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Ji Han Zhuo paused in his steps, then headed straight upstairs.

Chen Zhan’s account would be settled later.

Ji Han Zhuo gently turned the doorknob and the door opened. The room was dark, with no lights on. By the faint light filtering in from the hallway, he could vaguely make out a lump under the covers in the center of the large bed.

Ji Han Zhuo didn’t make a sound. He walked in quietly, turned on the warm yellow wall lamp by the bed, and didn’t wake her.

The girl on the bed had her lips slightly pursed, her eyelids slightly swollen, and her sleeping face was peaceful. Her well-behaved appearance was a stark contrast to the way she had angered him during the day.

She had been crying.

Ji Han Zhuo couldn’t quite understand it. He hadn’t even cried, so what did she have to cry about?

The thought of what happened during the day stirred his anger again. He leaned down and bit her lips lightly, then gently licked them afterward.

Jiang Xizhi’s eyelids twitched slightly. She cursed inwardly: With the way you bite, even if I were asleep, you’d wake me up.

She hadn’t been asleep at all; she just didn’t want to face Ji Han Zhuo and didn’t know how to talk to him.

After sitting and watching her for a while, Ji Han Zhuo got up. From the sound of it, he had left. Jiang Xizhi quickly shifted her body.

Not long after, footsteps sounded from outside again. Ji Han Zhuo had returned, and Jiang Xizhi immediately resumed her pose.

Ji Han Zhuo had gone to get ointment for Jiang Xizhi—the red marks from him pinching her chin that morning were still there.

Ji Han Zhuo carefully applied the ointment for Jiang Xizhi, then went to the bathroom.

After Ji Han Zhuo left, Jiang Xizhi opened her eyes again. He wouldn’t be sleeping here tonight, would he?
