But what if this was some feudal ancient era where women had no rights? What if her family thought she’d gone stupid from the bump, deemed her worthless, and heartlessly sold her off?

Would she have to go the route of a courtesan? Or struggle her way up as a little maidservant?

Just as Su Yun was lost in wild speculation, a sudden [Ding] sounded in her head, startling her so much she nearly jumped out of her skin.Full novel: Seventies: Enjoying the Drama with a Check-In System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After recovering, her eyes lit up. Sure enough, transmigrators come with cheat abilities! So her golden finger was a system? This had to be a system, right! The heavens had sent her a cheat!

[Ding… Check-in System secondary binding successful.]

Secondary binding? What did that mean?

It was actually a check-in system! From all the novels she’d read, this was a huge win! A check-in system was every lazy person’s dream—no quests to complete, just check in daily and get rewards. It was practically the system of her dreams!

In Su Yun’s eyes, getting rewards for just tapping a button was basically freebies! Was there anything better in the world?

For a laid-back homebody like Su Yun, this was way better than the other kinds of cheats she’d read about in novels!

“System?” Su Yun rubbed her fingers together excitedly and called out tentatively in her mind.

[Ding… Check-in System reboot complete.]

……

After about half an hour of fragmented communication, Su Yun finally understood what had happened, and her feelings became somewhat complicated.

This check-in system had originally been meant to bind with the original owner. According to plan, it was supposed to bind with her today and lead her to the pinnacle of life.

But its timing was terrible. It had only gotten halfway through the binding process and hadn’t even activated yet when the original owner suddenly kicked the bucket.

What rotten luck for the system!

Su Yun tried hard to hold it in, but the corners of her mouth still twitched upward, and she nearly burst out laughing.

The system intelligence that had been communicating with her had temporarily returned to the main system to recharge after over-consuming its energy. Before leaving, it hastily packaged up the original owner’s residual memories and transmitted them to Su Yun, finally solving her immediate crisis.

It turned out that the original owner had fallen ill a few days ago with a fever that kept spiking for over two days. She’d only taken a single fever-reduction pill and hadn’t gone to the hospital.

When Su Yun had just woken up, the body was extremely uncomfortable and very weak. The original owner had forced herself to get up and go outside to call for help, but she couldn’t hold on. She collapsed in the yard and died on the spot.

Just as she fell, the system had landed on her and was mid-binding when she died. The system was completely dumbfounded, and by the time it realized what happened, the original owner’s soul had already dissipated.

It had no choice but to consume half its energy to randomly pull over the soul most compatible with this body.

Su Yun had basically hit the jackpot!

The original owner of this body was also named Su Yun. Su Yun patted her flat chest—thank goodness!

When she’d first woken up and saw the clothes and surroundings, she’d already steeled herself to be called names like Da Ni, Er Ya, or Zhao Di! Now, at least she wouldn’t have to worry about not reacting when someone called her name.

Su Yun had a fairly optimistic mindset and quickly adjusted her emotions. Since she was here, she might as well make the best of it.

When she thought about it, she’d come out ahead in this deal. If the system hadn’t brought her here by accident, she would have perished in that plane crash, with no one even to arrange her funeral. Just thinking about it felt bleak.

Su Yun’s parents had passed away unexpectedly when she was young, and she’d been raised by her grandmother. After her grandmother died a few years ago, she’d lived alone ever since, with no one to miss back in the modern world.

The only minor regret was that her old family home was about to be demolished, and she had no idea who would benefit from that now.

But since she was gone now, there was no point worrying about it. Let whoever get it—right now, she needed to focus on the present.

She carefully went through the original owner’s memories that the system had transmitted, and couldn’t help frowning.

It was actually 1974—a time of severe material shortages. Su Yun had read plenty of period novels and heard her grandmother tell stories about the old days. She knew life was tough in this era!

Money alone wasn’t enough to buy things—you needed ration coupons too: grain coupons, cloth coupons, meat coupons, industrial vouchers. And many goods were strictly rationed. Even with money and coupons, you might not be able to get what you wanted!

Plus, there was very little freedom. You needed various certificates to buy things, and an official letter of introduction to travel even a little distance. Without one, you couldn’t even find a place to stay, and sleeping on the street would get you picked up by the authorities…

Finding a job wasn’t easy either; you couldn’t just apply anywhere, even if you had the skills. City jobs were like radishes in holes—one per spot—mostly inherited from parents or bought under the table.

Most people couldn’t even guarantee three meals a day. Even city workers with their “iron rice bowl” jobs might not get meat more than once a month. In the countryside, it was even worse—plain vegetables and thin gruel for every meal, and being seventy percent full on cornmeal buns was already considered pretty good.

Still, Su Yun shook her head and tried to perk up. It was only a few years until the policies would loosen up. By then, she’d work hard and make herself a wealthy woman!

With that thought, Su Yun felt a glimmer of hope again. For now, she just needed to take steady steps to get through the next few years.
