Wen Miaomiao sent her location to Gu Yan. The sun was too strong, so she stood under a large tree near the hospital entrance.

After a while.

A black Maybach appeared in front of her. A man stepped out from the driver’s seat, his face cold and stern, dressed in a black suit that accentuated his tall, slender figure.Full novel: She Looks Obedient, But After Marriage, She Turns the Arrogant Boss into a Dog — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Are you in a bad mood?” Gu Yan walked slowly toward her in his leather shoes.

“Yes.” Wen Miaomiao looked up at him, a faint smile curling at the corner of her lips.

“And you can still smile?”

“Who says you can’t smile when you’re in a bad mood? Can’t I hide my sadness?”

“Hah.” Gu Yan scoffed lightly, placing his hands on his hips as he stood there, recalling how pitiful she sounded on the phone earlier. Now, she seemed completely fine.

No wonder she’s a Gemini—her emotions change so quickly.

“Aren’t you busy today?” Wen Miaomiao asked softly, tilting her head to look at him.

“What, are you trying to send me away now?” Gu Yan guessed her intention, his handsome brows slightly furrowed.

“No…”

As the two were chatting.

Not far away, inside the hospital, Lu Xingyi stood by the window of his office holding a water cup, watching the scene of the two chatting under the tree.

Gu Yan was over 180 cm tall, while Wen Miaomiao was around 160 cm. He wore a black suit, and she wore an elegant white dress. Standing together, they looked like a handsome man and a beautiful woman, forming a striking sight.

Suddenly, Gu Yan took Wen Miaomiao’s small hand and led her into the car…

In the car.

Gu Yan drove steadily. Wen Miaomiao sat in the passenger seat, glancing sideways at him. This dog of a man had an authoritative, handsome face.

“Why are you secretly staring at your husband? Admiring my figure? I’ll let you have a good look tonight when we get home.”

“Ugh.” Wen Miaomiao rolled her eyes, withdrew her gaze, and lowered her head to play with her phone.

Gu Yan placed both hands on the steering wheel, looking straight ahead, a faint smile curling his thin lips.

While waiting at a red light, he turned to ask her, “What did your cousin want from you?”

Wen Miaomiao lowered her eyes and replied softly, “Nothing, just catching up.”

“Catching up? Did he confess his feelings to you?”

“…How did you know he confessed?”

Wen Miaomiao looked at the man in surprise.

Gu Yan spoke calmly, “Lu Xingyi told me. He overheard your conversation with your sister by accident.”

Wen Miaomiao understood. Right after leaving Doctor Lu’s office, she and her sister had spoken quite loudly, so it was likely they were overheard.

“Yes, I rejected him.”

Wen Miaomiao thought it was absurd. Lin Ruiyao? They had grown up together since childhood, and she used to bully him often when they were kids. How could he possibly like her?

Gu Yan curled his lips and said, “Did you reject him for my sake?”

Wen Miaomiao replied seriously, “Sort of. Even without you, I wouldn’t have agreed. I even felt like hitting him.”

Gu Yan said, “You’re not biologically related to the Wen family, are you?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Wen Miaomiao’s subtle expression said it all.

Gu Yan’s gaze darkened slightly as he smiled and said, “The Wen family treats you well.”

Just by looking at Wen Miaomiao’s adorable and straightforward personality, her respect for her older brother, her dependence on her sister, and her reluctance to leave the Wen parents, it was clear that the Wen family had raised her exceptionally well, like a flower nurtured in a greenhouse.

Wen Miaomiao’s eyes reddened slightly. She lowered her head, gripping her phone tightly. The softest part of her heart had been touched—her family would always be her greatest weakness and her most cherished treasure.

“Was it because you wanted to repay the Wen family that you agreed to marry me?” Gu Yan asked.

“Yes.”

Wen Miaomiao didn’t hide anything, answering frankly.

Gu Yan let out a bitter laugh, speaking as he drove, “Actually, I really envy you. Even though you’re not our parents’ biological child, they treat you exceptionally well. I… am their biological son, yet neither of them loves me.”

Wen Miaomiao looked up at him, feeling a pang in her heart, and softly comforted him, “Gu Yan, those hardships are in the past. You’ve already overcome them. Now, you can learn to love yourself.”

Gu Yan pulled the car over to the side of the road, lowered his head, and pressed his hand to his forehead, his face filled with a wounded expression. It was as if he had been plunged back into painful memories.

“Gu Yan… are you okay?”

“Gu Yan, you still have me!” Wen Miaomiao’s heart softened, and she quickly tried to console him.

She hadn’t realized he was so pitiful…

“Do you know why I’m called Gu Yan? Before I turned eighteen, my name was Gu Yuan—Yuan as in ‘wish.’ That was the name my birth mother gave me. After I returned to the Gu family, I changed it.”

“Because in the entire Gu family, aside from my grandfather, no one liked me. No one welcomed me.”

Gu Yan let out a despondent, bitter laugh, like a stray puppy with no one to love him, utterly alone and helpless.

Wen Miaomiao listened, sympathy flooding her heart, and quickly said, “You’re grown up now. You don’t need to care about what others think. Cheer up a little!”

Gu Yan covered his face with both hands, his voice low and hoarse, tinged with a sob. “But my mother passed away early, my father hates me, I have a wicked stepmother, and the entire Gu family isolates me, calling me a bastard.”

In that moment, it felt as if the whole world had abandoned him, as if he had lost everything.

Wen Miaomiao desperately wanted to reach out and hug him, so she urged, “You still have me!”

Gu Yan lowered his hands, his eyes bloodshot, looking at her with a wounded expression. “But you don’t love me… sooner or later, you’ll ask for a divorce.”

Wen Miaomiao replied, “Even if we divorce, you’ll still find a woman who loves you deeply.”

Gu Yan shook his head. “I won’t. I only want you.”

Wen Miaomiao was visibly moved, biting her lip lightly. “Am I really that important to you?”

Gu Yan nodded heavily, his expression serious and earnest. “Yes, I can’t live without you.”

Wen Miaomiao fell silent.

Inside the car, the atmosphere suddenly felt oppressive and heavy.

Ten minutes later.

Gu Yan wanted to smoke, but he knew she disliked the smell of cigarettes, so he suppressed the urge.

“Wen Miaomiao, can you tell me you love me?”

“Why?” Wen Miaomiao, sitting in the passenger seat, instinctively asked before falling silent. Then she added, “Isn’t what we have now good enough? Why must we talk about love? What’s so great about being madly in love?”

“You really sound like a heartbreaker,” Gu Yan said, half-amused and half-annoyed by her words. They sounded all too familiar.

He often heard similar remarks from his good friend Chi Yan.

Wen Miaomiao turned to look at him, speaking with clear-headed clarity. “We’re husband and wife now. I’ll be loyal to this marriage. Isn’t that enough?”

Gu Yan let out a long sigh. He felt deeply insecure because Wen Miaomiao might ask for a divorce in the future or fall in love with someone else.

All he wanted… was a place in her heart.

Not just the title of “husband.”

“I’m so sleepy,” Wen Miaomiao yawned, tears glistening at the corners of her eyes as she smiled. “Let’s go home.”

Gu Yan drove back in silence.

Back in the living room, Wen Miaomiao sat on the sofa watching TV, completely relaxed.

Gu Han sensed something was off and walked over to Wen Miaomiao, asking quietly, “Young Madam, did you two have an argument?”

Wen Miaomiao was taken aback. “No, not at all!”

Gu Han: “My young master seems upset, as if he’s sulking.”

“Why don’t you go upstairs and coax him a bit?”

Wen Miaomiao ate her blueberries, looking at Gu Han nonchalantly, feeling utterly baffled. Why would he need coaxing when everything was fine?

“I didn’t do anything to upset him, so why should I coax him?”

Gu Han choked back his words and silently retreated.
