Wen Miaomiao sat on the sofa, sensing the other party’s unfriendly tone, yet her delicate face still wore a smile.

Liu Yueqin continued, “Originally, you were supposed to marry Chiyu. Who would have thought that A’yan would go and beg his father, insisting on marrying you? That child never asks anyone for anything, so I suppose you two must have been mutually drawn to each other?”

Gu Yan… begged for an arranged marriage with her?

She fell silent.

Liu Yueqin took a leisurely sip of tea and said, “Your family’s company needed help, and an arranged marriage was the best outcome. It seems your parents are quite sensible.”

Between the lines, she was mocking Wen Miaomiao’s parents for selling their daughter for money…

“Miss Wen, go back and tell your sister not to dream of marrying into the Gu family. I will not agree to it.”

Wen Miaomiao took a deep breath, looked up, and asked, “Madam, my sister is a wonderful person. Why won’t you agree?”

Liu Yueqin laughed, but her smile hid a knife, her eyes sharp and calculating.

“I won’t say more, to save your sister some face.”

With that, the atmosphere grew tense.

Wen Miaomiao was seething inside but didn’t know how to vent her anger.

Just then, a girl in a pink dress walked over and sat beside Liu Yueqin, flattering her with a smile. “Auntie, you take such good care of yourself. You look younger and younger.”

Liu Yueqin was clearly pleased and instinctively touched her face. “Qingqing, you’re so sweet.”

Gu Wanqing glanced at Wen Miaomiao across from her.

“Is she the new wife Gu Yan married?”

Liu Yueqin clearly didn’t care much for Wen Miaomiao. She nodded, her expression sour.

Gu Wanqing sized up Wen Miaomiao from head to toe, then said disdainfully, “She’s not even that pretty. Cutting her hair short to act cute!”

Wen Miaomiao ignored her and looked directly at Liu Yueqin. “Madam Liu, please explain clearly. What exactly did my sister do wrong?”

Gu Wanqing frowned and said sharply, “What kind of attitude is that? This is your mother-in-law!”

Mother-in-law?

Wen Miaomiao was confused. Was this Gu Yan’s mother? If she hadn’t made it clear from the start, how was Wen Miaomiao supposed to know which “madam” she was?

Liu Yueqin waved her hand, her expression gentle and kind. “It’s fine. I’m not A’yan’s biological mother, so it’s normal for her not to respect me.”

Wen Miaomiao blinked in shock. What a huge accusation of disrespecting elders!

“Didn’t you say you were Madam Liu? You never mentioned…”

Before she could finish, Gu Wanqing crossed her arms and scolded sarcastically, “How rude! Is this how your Wen family raised you?”

Wen Miaomiao didn’t hold back and retorted, “Watch your tone.”

Gu Wanqing didn’t expect Wen Miaomiao to talk back. She opened her mouth wide and snorted coldly.

Liu Yueqin didn’t want to continue the conversation and stood up to leave, but she was suddenly stopped…

“Madam Liu, please explain clearly. What exactly is wrong with my sister?” Wen Miaomiao insisted stubbornly, her sweet face uttering the firmest words.

Liu Yueqin was taken aback. She looked at the girl before her, surprised that she dared to speak to her like this.

“Miss Wen, are you sure about this attitude?”

“Don’t pick on my attitude. I just want a clear answer.”

Wen Miaomiao wanted to stand up for her sister. Her sister liked Gu Chiyu so much—why wasn’t she accepted?

Liu Yueqin sat down and spoke with a smile, “Alright, since you insist on asking, I’ll make it clear. Your sister has a proud temperament, and I never really liked her, but since Chiyu likes her, I went along with it. However, there’s one thing—your sister’s ex is a girl, and I can’t accept that.”

Wen Miaomiao wasn’t very surprised, as she already knew about this and was even acquainted with that girl.

Upon hearing this, Gu Wanqing laughed heartily, “So your sister swings both ways? Her private life is that messy?”

Wen Miaomiao’s eyes reddened, and she immediately retorted, “Who she likes is my sister’s freedom—it’s not your place to judge! Besides, she and that girl were in a long-distance relationship and broke up before they even met in person!”

Gu Wanqing clicked her tongue mockingly and shook her head.

“Tsk, no wonder Auntie disapproves. Your sister is just too dirty.”

Without hesitation, Wen Miaomiao grabbed the water glass from the table and flung it directly at her!

Splash!

The water in the glass landed precisely on Gu Wanqing’s delicate, pretty face!

“Ah!” Gu Wanqing cried out in shock, hurriedly wiping her face with a tissue, her dress already soaked.

“Are you insane?!”

Wen Miaomiao calmly sat on the sofa, raised her eyes to look at her, and said coldly, “Your mouth is too foul. I’m just helping you cool down.”

Furious, Gu Wanqing stormed over, yanked Wen Miaomiao up, and raised her hand to slap her face!

But her hand froze mid-air…

Gu Yan’s tall figure stood behind her, gripping her wrist tightly, his expression dark and icy.

“Gu Wanqing, how dare you lay a hand on my wife?”

Gu Yan harshly flung her hand away and stood protectively in front of Wen Miaomiao, his entire body radiating a chilling, dangerous aura.

Gu Wanqing stumbled back a few steps, nearly falling, her face flushed with anger.

“Gu Yan! She splashed water all over my face—didn’t you see? She started it!”

Hearing this, Gu Yan sat down beside Wen Miaomiao, checking if she was hurt. He then lifted his cold gaze to Gu Wanqing and said, “My wife has a gentle nature. She wouldn’t have acted if you hadn’t provoked her.”

Gu Wanqing was on the verge of exploding with rage, tears of frustration welling in her eyes.

Just then, Gu Wenhong walked over with a dark expression. Seeing his daughter at a disadvantage, he immediately stepped forward to inquire.

“Qingqing, what happened?”

Gu Wanqing wiped her tears while pointing at Wen Miaomiao on the sofa, loudly accusing, “Dad, she splashed water on me! And Brother Gu Yan is defending her!”

Gu Wenhong’s face darkened as he sized up Wen Miaomiao—a short-haired girl with a petite face, her delicate beauty undeniable, her appearance completely non-threatening…

He figured his daughter must have been acting arrogantly again.

“Ayan, is this your arranged marriage wife?”

Gu Yan sat on the sofa, crossing his long legs and wrapping an arm around Wen Miaomiao’s shoulders. He smiled and said, “Isn’t it obvious, Uncle?”

Gu Wenhong’s expression turned grim as he slowly spoke, “No matter what happened, she splashed water on Qingqing’s face. Letting Qingqing splash her back shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

Clearly, he was backing his daughter.

Gu Wanqing lifted her chin triumphantly, already looking forward to it.

Wen Miaomiao bit her lip, feeling particularly insecure in the Gu household. With her parents absent, no one was there to protect her…

Many eyes in the banquet hall turned their way, watching the spectacle unfold.

Gu Yan remained silent for a few seconds before raising his hawk-like dark eyes, gleaming with a cold light. He spoke in a low voice, “No.”

Gu Wenhong was publicly humiliated, his face turning livid with anger. Was this brat really showing him no respect at all? After all, he was still an elder.

“A-Yan, what happened today was your wife’s fault. No matter what, she shouldn’t have resorted to violence.” Liu Yueqin spoke with a stern expression, beginning to apply pressure.

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone present started targeting Gu Yan, as if they had planned it in advance.

Gu Yan shot a fierce glare at Liu Yueqin, his smile chilling. “Aunt Liu, are you involved in this too? Did you also bully my wife?”

Liu Yueqin frowned slightly. “Nonsense. Who bullied her?”

Gu Yan spread his hands, looking coldly at everyone present. “My wife didn’t suffer any losses today. But if I see anyone dare lay a hand on her next time, don’t blame me for being impolite.”

Gu Wenhong walked over to his daughter and told her to quickly change into a clean dress, as the evening banquet would soon begin.

Gu Wanqing pouted unwillingly and stomped off angrily to change her clothes.

The gathering ended on a sour note.

Gu Chiyu was at the entrance, calling Wen Ruoxue on the phone, completely unaware of the argument inside.

He looked up and saw his father, Gu Wenhan, approaching, followed by Huang Guanjia.

“Dad,” Gu Chiyu put down his phone.

“Has A-Yan brought his wife back?” Gu Wenhan asked.

“Yes, they’re inside,” Gu Chiyu replied.

Gu Wenhan looked at his son, whose face still held a faint smile, and saw right through him.

“Who were you calling? Didn’t your mother disapprove of you and Miss Wen? Haven’t you broken up yet?”

Gu Chiyu followed his father as he walked, saying, “Dad, I won’t break up. My feelings for Xue’er are genuine.”

Gu Wenhan ignored him and strode into the main hall, his sharp gaze locking onto Gu Yan and Wen Miaomiao, who were sitting there.

As soon as the Head of the Gu Family appeared, everyone rushed forward to greet him respectfully.
