Сhарter 22: Let Thеm Gо Mad Вeforе Тhеу Fаll
Аt the роliсе station, Shеn Ciying repоrtеd how Fu Yuаn hаd thrеаtеned Jiаn Yао with privatе рhotоs to kidnap hеr, as wеll as his threats tо kill her in thе cаr. Shе also рlayed thе rесоrding for the роliсе, though she hаd editеd out the рarts wherе she had сursed.
Howеvеr, аside frоm this rеcording, therе was nо оther evidеnce. Fu Yuаn firmly insistеd:
“Оffiсers, I wаs just talking big in the hеat of thе mоmеnt. How would I dare to actuаllу kill someone? Тhе car crаsh wаs purely an accident. I didn’t even know they were in the car ahead of me.
Officers, you can’t arrest me just based on their one-sided statements and a recording that’s taken out of context, can you?”
As he spoke, he even adopted a sincere tone and promised, “I’ll be more careful with my words from now on and be a civilized person. As for those so-called private photos, they’re completely made up.”
The police looked somewhat troubled as they turned to Shen Ciying. With only this evidence, they couldn’t arrest him. However, Shen Ciying was backed by Shen Rangchen, and if they did nothing, they feared she might complain, which would also be troublesome.
Shen Ciying could see the police’s dilemma and knew that this recording alone wasn’t enough to convict Fu Yuan—it wasn’t even enough for administrative detention.
But she hadn’t intended to bring him to justice at this point anyway.
The punishment would be too light now.
Shen Ciying looked at the police with a nervous and uneasy expression and said, “Since it doesn’t constitute a crime, it’s enough if he promises not to threaten or intimidate me again.
My friend and I were both very frightened because Fu Yuan did crash into our car after threatening and intimidating us.
That’s why we came to report it even in the middle of the night.”
“Miss Shen, we completely understand how you and your friend feel, but we really can’t arrest him at this point,” the police said. “If Fu Yuan takes any further action or if other evidence emerges, we will definitely bring him to justice.
Please also take care of yourself. If you sense any danger, call the police immediately.”
Shen Ciying didn’t say anything more and nodded in agreement.
In the end, Fu Yuan was only given a verbal warning before being allowed to leave.
Fu Yuan swaggered out and, seeing Shen Ciying, Fu Ye, and Jian Yao walking ahead, arrogantly caught up to them and sneered:
“Did you think you could get me arrested? What a bunch of brainless fools. Without Mr. Shen around, who would take you seriously? You’re overestimating yourselves.”
He glanced back at the police station entrance and lowered his voice:
“Shen Ciying, don’t think I don’t know you were behind what happened in the changing room. I’ll make sure you pay for it one day!”
Shen Ciying looked at the smug and arrogant Fu Yuan, pretending to be uneasy as she blinked lightly and opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent. Instead, she pulled Fu Ye and Jian Yao along as if fleeing in defeat, saying:
“Let’s go quickly. I don’t want to listen to a dog barking.”
Fu Yuan was so angry he wanted to shout, but as soon as he opened his mouth, he realized they were still too close to the police station. He could only glare venomously, clenching his fists in frustration.
After they had walked a distance, Jian Yao muttered discontentedly, “Is this really the end of it? He didn’t get any punishment at all. Instead, he’s become even more arrogant.”
Shen Ciying only said quietly, “To make someone fall, you must first let them go mad.”
Fu Ye remained calm and didn’t say anything, because she knew A Ying wouldn’t let the matter end like this.
Both cars had been sent for repairs.
While waiting by the roadside for the car, Shen Ciying caught sight of Fu Yuan approaching out of the corner of her eye and deliberately raised her voice:“I won’t be able to sleep tonight either. How about I treat you all to drinks at a bar? Let’s unwind a bit.”
Fu Ye immediately chimed in: “Sure. Let’s go.”
Jian Yao, unaware of any ulterior motive from Shen Ciying, simply wanted to relax and quickly agreed: “Alright. I wouldn’t be able to sleep alone at home anyway.”
Fu Ye then deliberately asked: “Which bar are we going to?”
Shen Ciying: “To ‘Tipsy’.”
Just then, a taxi arrived. Shen Ciying casually hailed it and headed toward “Tipsy.”
Fu Yuan watched the taxi drive away, his eyes narrowing slightly as he pondered for a moment. A flicker of mischief passed through his gaze before he casually made a phone call. He then hailed another taxi and said, “To ‘Tipsy’ Bar.”
