Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.
Rong Yi had obediently stayed at home to recuperate from her injury, not going anywhere, and she was practically growing mold.
The only thing that brought her joy was sending messages every day to “harass” Gu Ye—after all, he couldn’t escape responsibility for her foot injury.
Today happened to be Su Ying’s son’s birthday, so she went home to celebrate with him. Originally, she had wanted Rong Yi to come along.
But Rong Yi couldn’t move around easily, and besides, Su Ying’s work already kept her away from her family most of the time. Now that the family of three finally had a chance to be together, Rong Yi decided not to intrude. She only asked Su Ying to take the toys she had bought for the child back home.
So, Rong Yi got up by herself, made a cup of oatmeal, boiled an egg, and half a corn cob.
Her fair fingers first picked up the water glass and drank it down to increase her sense of fullness, then she started on her breakfast.
Well, not exactly breakfast—more like lunch.
Over the past half month, Rong Yi had rediscovered the joy of sleeping in. She thought beds were the best invention in the world!
Just as Rong Yi finished peeling the egg but hadn’t taken a bite yet, she saw a message pop up on her phone.
It was Su Ying, worried about her being home alone, specifically asking if she was up and if she had eaten.
Actually, Rong Yi’s foot injury was almost healed, and she could walk on it now. But Su Ying, afraid she might develop long-term issues, insisted she rest a bit longer.
Rong Yi didn’t know whether to be happy or worried. Over the past half month, Su Ying had been at Rong Yi’s place, making her nourishing soups every few days. Rong Yi was almost sick of them—they were just too rich.
What’s more, in just half a month, she had gained almost five pounds!!
This sounded the alarm for Rong Yi—she absolutely couldn’t drink any more of that soup.
Rose: [I’m up, about to eat.]
Attached was a photo of her lunch on the table.
Rose: [Ying, don’t worry about me. Just relax and spend time with your husband and Xiao Tong. You can come over tomorrow.]
Rose: [Heart.gif]
Ying: [Alright, then I won’t come back tonight. I’ll bring you breakfast tomorrow morning.]
Rose: [OK]
Rong Yi put down her phone and finally started eating. She ate slowly until she was about eighty percent full, then stopped, leaving the remaining corn untouched.
After the meal, Rong Yi propped herself up on one foot and hopped over to the sofa on her other long leg.
She had just sat down for no more than two minutes, still thinking about what variety show to watch today, when her phone chimed.
Rong Yi had almost developed a conditioned reflex—she tossed the remote control aside and quickly opened her phone. Sure enough, it was a message from Gu Ye.
But it was a reply to the “good night” message she had sent last night.
If it weren’t Gu Ye, Rong Yi might have suspected he had deliberately ignored her yesterday just so he could naturally send her a message this morning.
But it didn’t matter. As long as it was Gu Ye, Rong Yi could accept it however it came.
Rong Yi felt like she was turning into a love-struck fool lately. Thinking about those videos online, she really didn’t want to end up digging for wild vegetables.
Rose: [Mr. Gu is such a busy man—even replying to a message makes someone daydream about it~]
Rose: [Cute cat emoji.gif]
GY: [Foot doesn’t hurt anymore?]
Rong Yi pouted and complained, “He really knows how to ruin the mood.”
Even if her foot didn’t hurt anymore, she couldn’t tell him that.
Rose: [It hurts~]
Rose: [Crying face.jpg]
Rose: “If only someone could come see me and keep me company, maybe it wouldn’t hurt so much…”
Gu Ye: “You sure know how to dream.”
Rose: “Mr. Gu doesn’t know what it’s like to be cooped up at home every day—I’m practically growing mold.”
Rose: “Not like Mr. Gu, who’s out having fun all the time.”
Gu Ye: “? When have I been out having fun?”
Rong Yi snorted softly, still refusing to admit it. She’d show him the evidence right in front of his eyes.
Almost immediately, Rong Yi sent over a screenshot—the one that had just trended on social media a couple of days ago.
In the picture, popular actress Ye Qiuqiu was intimately holding hands with a man. The man’s face was somewhat blurry, but after multiple analyses by the media, it was speculated to be Gu Ye, the reclusive CEO of G&Y.
Gu Ye was both amused and annoyed when he saw the photo. It was so blurry you could barely make out a person—how could they possibly determine it was him?
Gu Ye: “Are you sure that’s me?”
Rose: “Um… I thought the media sounded pretty convincing…”
Actually, the media was best at making something out of nothing. For the sake of a sensational story, they’d write anything. Having been in this industry for so many years, Rong Yi wasn’t unaware of this. It was just that when she saw the trending topic, her emotions had overridden her rationality.
Gu Ye: “The media? Miss Rong, as someone in the entertainment industry, you actually believe this kind of reporting?”
Rose: “Sorry~ I jumped to conclusions. I thought you’d found someone new.”
Gu Ye: “Cut down on this kind of meaningless stuff.”
Admittedly, Gu Ye’s words sounded just like something a parent would say when scolding their child.
Rose: “Even though I’d love to argue, I’ll listen to Mr. Gu.”
Rose: “Obedient.jpg”
Gu Ye: “Good girl~.gif”
Sitting on the sofa, Rong Yi hugged her phone, biting her lip with a light laugh—the very picture of a woman in love.
Even though nothing was official yet, it was already on the verge of happening.
Rose: “What are you up to at home, Mr. Gu?”
Gu Ye didn’t reply right away. After a while, he sent over a video.
In the video, a pure white Ragdoll cat with flawless fur blinked its bright blue eyes as it licked the man’s slender fingers. Soft and fluffy, it was even wearing a light pink princess dress—absolutely adorable!
Cat lover Rong Yi couldn’t take it!
Rose: “Ah~ so cute!”
Rose: “Mr. Gu, could you bring it over to keep me company?”
In a moment of impulsiveness, Rong Yi sent the message without thinking. By the time she came to her senses, it was too late to take it back…
Rong Yi reached out and patted her own head. She really had no idea what she was thinking sometimes. It was just that the kitten was too adorable—it had instantly captured her heart!
Regretting her rashness, Rong Yi lowered her gaze and typed quickly on her phone.
Rose: “I only said that because the kitty was too cute—it just slipped out. Please don’t take it seriously, Mr. Gu.”
Looking at the latest message on his phone, Gu Ye raised an eyebrow slightly and turned to glance at the already packed-up Fa Cai beside him. “Fa Cai, what if she goes back on her word and doesn’t want you anymore?”
Fa Cai licked its paw: “Meow~?”
Gu Ye reached out and stroked Fa Cai’s head. “I know you want to go. I’ll make it happen for you.”
Gu Ye: “I took it seriously.”
