“Lin Ze, the guests in 903 need two bottles of alcohol. Have them brought up,” the supervisor said.
“Alright, let me finish delivering this order on the second floor first,” Lin Ze said.
“No, the guests in 903 are rushing. Go right now,” the manager said, looking somewhat flustered, terrified that Lin Ze would slight that particular guest.
Did they specifically ask for him by name?
Which financial backer had he offended this time?
Lin Ze knew that this order on the ninth floor was undoubtedly from another high-ranking, powerful guest. Generally, the higher the floor, the higher the social class, and the harder they were to please.
To be honest, he really didn’t want to take jobs from guests like this. He was afraid of a repeat of last time and just hoped this one would be easier to handle.
Lin Ze carried the drinks and pressed the elevator button.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, right in front of him was a golden sign bearing the glittering digits 903.
It was his first time serving such a high-end floor, and his heart pounded nervously. A few seconds after he rang the doorbell, a man opened the door.
The man had fair skin and sparkling, starry eyes. For some reason, the corner of his mouth was slightly scraped and peeling.
The moment the man looked at Lin Ze, the turbulent irritation on his face became faintly visible.
He impatiently grabbed his own hair and ruffled it, seemingly muttering a quiet complaint under his breath. “Damn it, coming so early and ruining my good time.”
Lin Ze didn’t even know the man standing before him. He had no idea why, upon first meeting, the guy could feel such intense displeasure toward him.
Sensing the man’s hostility, Lin Ze had no desire to linger here.
With a cold, composed voice, he spoke up, “Guest, the alcohol you ordered has been delivered.”
“Yu Fu, has the person arrived?” A voice called out from inside the room.
Holding the tray of drinks, Lin Ze paused slightly, feeling like the voice was somewhat familiar.
“They’re here,” Yu Fu switched off his disgusted expression, shaping his voice into something exquisitely gentle and sweet enough to give someone goosebumps.
It was as if the person with the stinky face and look of contempt just a moment ago had had his soul sucked out.
“Get out and let him in,” the person inside commanded.
Yu Fu gritted his teeth, the pads of his fingers gripping the doorknob turning pale with the force.
He glared fiercely at Lin Ze.
Receiving that gaze, Lin Ze instinctively took half a step back and swallowed hard.
What was this about? What did it have to do with him? He hadn’t done a single thing, yet he was still getting glared at for no reason!
Annoyed, he was seriously annoyed!
But under these circumstances, could he puff out his chest and slap the man across the face? Could he use his fiery temper to vent, “What the hell are you glaring at me for? I’m not serving you anymore?”—could he say those two sentences?
No, he couldn’t!
He simply couldn’t!
In his humble position, he still needed to earn living expenses.
If others want to anger me, I won’t get mad; I’m naturally at peace while they come to rage.
He forced a smile, hoping to diffuse the awkward atmosphere.
Yet seeing this, Yu Fu misunderstood even further, assuming Lin Ze was provoking him.
Still, he didn’t dare disobey the command given by the big boss inside, so he could only cross his arms, turn his head coldly, and let out a hum.
“Standing there like a block of wood for what? Go on in,” he said with a disdainful curl of his lip.
The corners of Lin Ze’s mouth twitched slightly, the suppressed anger boiling inside his nasal cavity. He genuinely wanted to grab Yu Fu by the collar and retort, “You’re built bigger than anyone else, yet you’re blocking the doorway. If you don’t step aside, how is he supposed to get in?!”
“Right, excuse me,” he gritted his teeth and forced a professional smile at Yu Fu.
Yu Fu pursed his lips, and as he walked past, he deliberately gave Lin Ze’s shoulder an aggressive bump before leaving.
Lin Ze stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
The moment his gaze locked onto the person in the room, his professional smile instantly cracked.
“Yi, Yi Yan?”
The guest in this private room was Yi Yan?
How much did a single night on the ninth floor cost?
He truly admired this young master Yi. Just how much money had he spent here to get upgraded to this floor?
He set down the two bottles of alcohol.
As he looked up, he inexplicably met Yi Yan’s gaze.
He saw Yi Yan resting his chin on one hand, the pad of his thumb rubbing back and forth across his lips. He lightly licked the corner of his mouth.
This scene instantly reeled in Lin Ze’s wandering thoughts.
Yet none of the churning thoughts in his mind could overshadow that smile currently on Yi Yan’s face.
Brilliant and dazzling.
It abruptly reminded him of that night during the street racing, when Yi Yan had brought him to the track and smiled just as openheartedly.
“Is Xiao Zeze still angry?”
He opened with such a frivolous tone that anyone hearing it would think he wasn’t talking about anything serious.
“Angry? What would I be angry about?” Lin Ze deliberately feigned indifference, firing back with a breezy tone.
“Ah, so Xiao Zeze has already forgotten about what happened that night? Truly a real man with a broad mind,” he raised a smile and praised.
“Naturally, I forgot ages ago!”
Floating on the praise, Lin Ze instinctively lifted his chin. He was least immune to praise from his own gender regarding his masculine vigor.
Yi Yan accurately grasped Lin Ze’s personality, showering him with compliments that practically praised him to the heavens.
Yet Lin Ze grew careless, completely unaware that his response was riddled with loopholes.
Yi Yan hadn’t even mentioned which night or what happened, but Lin Ze had instantly slotted himself right into it.
Yi Yan tapped his fingers against the armrest of his chair, the fingertips producing a captivating rhythm as his hawk-like gaze locked tightly onto Lin Ze.
“Then why didn’t Xiao Zeze reply to my messages these past few days?”
This question froze Lin Ze’s smile right on his face.
Why didn’t he reply? What else could it be—of course it was because he didn’t want to!
He defensively licked his lips, and after three short seconds, replied dryly, “Ah, I’ve been too busy these past few days, saw them and forgot to reply, sorry haha.”
Sorry? Well, truly sorry. He didn’t know what to reply to Yi Yan’s messages; ever since that incident, he felt every conversation between them had turned awkward.
“Oh, so Xiao Zeze forgot,” Yi Yan looked at him with a half-smile. “I thought you intentionally didn’t want to reply to me.”
Lin Ze rubbed his head and gave a dry chuckle. “As if I would!”
“Right, I can’t chat with you anymore. There are too many guests right now and the shop must be short-handed, I need to get back to work.”
He really wanted to leave immediately. After giving it another day or two to cool down, his reaction probably wouldn’t be this intense anymore.
At least he should be able to calmly deal with Yi Yan, instead of standing here feeling as awkward and helpless as he did now, with no idea what to say.
Hearing his words, Yi Yan couldn’t help but scoff derisively.
Did he really take him for an ordinary consumer? No matter how endless the traffic of guests in Night Monarch was, when would they ever be so strapped for staff?
Does he take the actual executive runner of Night Monarch for a fool?
Lin Ze, oh Lin Ze, you’re in such a rush to avoid me now, huh?
“No rush. I told the manager that tonight you only need to serve this room, nothing else. It seems like we haven’t chatted in ages, sit down and have a couple of drinks?”
Without waiting for Lin Ze’s reply, Yi Yan stood up and pulled out a chair for him.
At first, Lin Ze had tried to decline, saying he couldn’t drink because he was afraid, he wouldn’t wake up in time and mess up his schedule.
But Yi Yan possessed high emotional intelligence and a sweet mouth; within a few words, he had Lin Ze completely wrapped around his finger.
