1 – At thе funеrаl, аbоut tо bе cremаtеd
Вlооd Clan, Citу оf Eternаl Night.
Sheng Chuуаng stооd аtоp thе сitу wаll, shielding the sеverely woundеd Вai Аn.
Веhind hеr, hаir as dеnsе аs vines stirred withоut wind, сarrуing an aura оf deаdly solemnitу.
Thе rebеls bеlow the wаll continued tо tаunt hеr.
“Shеng Chuyаng, hаnd оvеr Lord Bаi An tо us, voluntarilу renounсe yоur status from the Вlооd Clаn rоyal familу, and wе might sрare уour life, lеtting yоu сrаwl out оf the Citу of Etеrnаl Night!”
Fivе hundred years ago, a war brоkе out between humаns аnd the Bloоd Сlan.
After a decade of conflict, the two sides ceased hostilities and signed a Peace Treaty.
The Blood Clan was forbidden from preying on humans, and a clause for intermarriage was eventually added.
Sheng Chuyang was the only surviving descendant of a human and a Blood Clan member in the five centuries since the intermarriage began.
Her father, mindful of her mother’s difficult childbirth, allowed her to take her mother’s surname.
Though she was the Vampire Princess, second only to the king, she faced constant criticism due to her human bloodline.
During her father’s reign, they dared not act out of fear of his authority. Now that her father had abdicated and entered slumber, coinciding with Sheng Chuyang’s hundredth birthday—her coming-of-age ceremony and her weakest moment—they had made their move.
A bunch of despicable, worthless trash.
Sheng Chuyang raised her head, scanning the surroundings. “Are these your final words?”
Her clear, soft, and gentle voice, light and ethereal, felt like an abyss to those who heard it, chilling them to the bone.
The previously clamoring rebels fell silent.
Every member of the Blood Clan knew that when Sheng Chuyang was born, her life hung by a thread. It was her elder brother, Bai An, who risked his life to save her.
Bai An was left gravely injured and rendered powerless, while Sheng Chuyang gained extraordinary combat abilities.
“Yangyang…”
Bai An’s voice was so weak it was almost inaudible.
“Brother!” Sheng Chuyang looked down with joy, soothing him softly. “Don’t worry, Brother. Once I deal with them, I’ll take you back to the castle to heal.”
Bai An interrupted her.
“Listen to me, Yangyang…”
“Hand me over to them, then go to the human realm and find Xingmu. I am still the king of the Blood Clan. As long as I stand with the City of Eternal Night, they cannot harm me.”
Sheng Chuyang’s expression was resolute. “No!”
“Don’t lie to me. I know they want to turn you into a puppet. I won’t allow it!”
Sheng Chuyang stood up, carefully settling Bai An. “Wait for me, Brother.”
In the next moment, Sheng Chuyang teleported to the ground.
“Come at me together!”
Even weakened as she was today, these rebels were no match for her.
In no time, she had swept through the rebels.
As she adjusted her cloak, about to turn and retrieve Bai An, a strange, hoarse voice rang out.
“Vampire Princess, seeing you in person is far better than hearing about you.”
Sheng Chuyang whirled around to see a shadowy figure with an indistinct face holding Bai An captive.
She leaped onto the city wall, her voice sharp. “Let go of my brother!”
The shadow let out a disdainful, eerie laugh. “He lives, you die. You live, he dies. The choice is yours.”
Sheng Chuyang sensed no kinship from the shadow.
Instead, she felt an overwhelming, terrifying energy radiating from him.
“Who are you?”
The shadow ignored her.
He reached out, piercing Bai An’s chest, intending to rip out his heart.
Sheng Chuyang’s face paled. “I can die! But you must swear a blood oath to never harm my brother.”
A blood oath was a vow made with one’s life—breaking it meant certain death.
The shadow halted its motion.
The strange, hoarse voice spoke again.”I swear on my life that as long as the Vampire Princess takes her own life here, I will never harm Bai An for all eternity.”
Sheng Chuyang took one last look at Bai An and smiled. “Brother hasn’t wished me a happy birthday yet.”
The girl’s voice carried its usual coquettish tone.
Yet her hand plunged unhesitatingly into her chest and tore out her own heart.
The last image before she fell into the Endless Abyss was of her brother, tears of blood seeping from his eyes…
…
The human world, Huayang City.
A funeral home…
“I heard today is the eighteenth birthday of the Sheng family’s second daughter?”
“Yes, but she died in a car accident last night.”
“I suppose the happiest one should be the Jiang family’s eldest son.”
“Definitely. Who would want to be engaged to a woman as crazy as Sheng Chuyang?”
“Not just the Jiang family’s eldest son—Sheng Chuyang deserved an early death…”
“Keep your voice down…”
…
Voices kept chattering incessantly in her ears.
“Too noisy!”
Sheng Chuyang wanted to cover her ears.
As she raised her hand, her elbow struck the wall. The pain jolted her fully awake.
Opening her eyes, she was met with dark wooden planks.
Turning her head left and right, she realized… she was in a coffin?
She had torn out her own heart, yet she wasn’t dead?
Sheng Chuyang frowned and covered her ears, blocking out the clamorous noise.
The world fell silent, and memories not her own surfaced in her mind.
This was a human body, sharing her name and surname, whose mother had also died at her birth.
Today was this body’s eighteenth birthday, but she had died on the spot in a car accident the previous night.
And now, it was the funeral for this body, about to be cremated.
So young, yet about to be turned to ashes.
How tragic…
“Mr. Sheng, take one last look at your daughter.”
Someone approached.
The coffin lid was pushed open.
Unwilling to be cremated, Sheng Chuyang sat bolt upright the moment the coffin lid opened.
Her thick, ink-black hair cascaded down her back, almost enveloping her entire frame. Against the dark hair, her face was pale as snow, her eyes dark as midnight, yet her lips were as vivid as blood.
A face both eerily strange and breathtakingly beautiful.
Enchanting yet terrifying.
The person who opened the coffin stared at Sheng Chuyang for several seconds before screaming, “Ah!!”
Then, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted from fright.
Soon, screams erupted one after another, plunging the scene into chaos.
“She’s risen from the dead!!”
“How is she alive again!!”
Sheng Chuyang had never been to the human world before, but she had heard that humans were mostly timid and weak.
Watching the panicked humans flee, she found this entirely believable.
She turned her head and saw a middle-aged man standing not far away.
The man wore an expression as if he had seen a ghost.
From the original host’s memories, she learned this man was Sheng Nanting, her father.
However, Sheng Nanting’s reaction was strange.
His daughter had come back to life, yet he didn’t seem happy at all—only shocked and… guilty.
“Nanting!”
At that moment, two women rushed over.
Two words instantly surfaced in Sheng Chuyang’s mind: vile women.
This was the original host’s instinctive reaction.
It seemed the original host deeply disliked these two.
The older one was Luo Meixue, and the other, about the same age as Sheng Chuyang, was Sheng Qingwei.
Back then, as soon as Sheng Chuyang’s mother passed away, Luo Meixue had brought her daughter Sheng Qingwei and married Sheng Nanting.
Ah, so they were the stepmother and stepsister.
She had heard that stepmothers in the human world were often no good.No wonder the original owner hated them.
“Sheng… Sheng Chuyang…”
Luo Meixue and Sheng Qingwei, upon seeing the living Sheng Chuyang, were so frightened that their legs gave way and they fell to the ground.
Sheng Chuyang found this family quite amusing.
They were both scared and guilty, suggesting that the original owner’s death was definitely connected to them.
Sheng Chuyang stretched her neck and arms, then climbed out of the coffin.
Sheng Qingwei and Luo Meixue screamed and hid behind Sheng Nanting: “Sheng Chuyang, what are you doing? Don’t come any closer!!”
Sheng Chuyang couldn’t be bothered with these two despicable women. Her brother was seriously injured, and she needed to return to the City of Eternal Night as soon as possible.
Ignoring them, she walked straight out.
The guests, terrified, huddled in the corners, as quiet as mice.
After only a few steps, Sheng Chuyang stopped.
She heard dense and orderly footsteps, as if from a specially trained group.
There were quite a few of them, and they were approaching.
The Sheng family didn’t seem important enough to warrant a visit from such a well-trained organization for condolences.
Could it be… they were here to capture her?
