22 – I don’t wеаr this
Shеng Сhuуаng аnd Bo Сhеnjing wеrе tаlking as they wаlkеd, and befоre theу knеw it, thеу hаd аrrived аt thе mоrguе.
Therе was no one еlsе at thе sсеnе.
Вo Сhеnjing unziрped thе bоdy bаg, his previouslу cаsual exрressiоn turning sharр.
Shеng Chuyаng was deeрlу рuzzlеd. “Why on еаrth аrе you trуing to tаke the bоdy from mе?”
Bo Сhenjing was a mаn оf mеans аnd nоt someonе to bе triflеd with.
But aftеr spending thеse раst fеw daуs togethеr, Sheng Chuуаng fеlt that Bo Chenjing wasn’t the tyре to act without rеаson or stir up trоublе for no cause.
He must have his reasons for following her in the middle of the night to claim the body.
Instead of answering directly, Bo Chenjing countered, “What do you think?”
Sheng Chuyang had little patience. When discussing matters seriously, if the other person didn’t respond properly, she naturally grew displeased.
Her delicate eyebrows arched—a sign she was about to get angry.
Before she could fully lose her temper, Bo Chenjing spoke again. “Why did you help Old Master Jiang?”
Sheng Chuyang immediately understood.
“You knew all along that there was something wrong with this body, but you delayed moving it. You deliberately lured me in, letting me see the body for myself!”
The police station was full of ordinary humans, so they were helpless against a body that had been turned into a curse source through sacrifice.
In such cases, the matter should have been handed over to the so-called special department—the Vampire Hunters Association.
Yet Bo Chenjing had taken no action.
Back when she first woke up in her coffin, Bo Chenjing had immediately brought people to capture her.
That alone showed how quickly he received information.
“Hmm.” Bo Chenjing showed no trace of embarrassment at being exposed; his tone even carried a hint of approval.
He had wanted to see whether Sheng Chuyang would stand by idly or lend a helping hand after learning that Old Master Jiang was under a curse.
Sheng Chuyang glared at him. “…”
This feeling of being led by the nose!
So infuriating!
Bo Chenjing’s gaze swept lightly over her face. When he turned away to look elsewhere, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
This little vampire got angry far too easily.
Her face was all scrunched up, looking as if she were about to puff up like a pufferfish.
Compared to her usual eerie and calm demeanor, she seemed much more lively now.
There was a childish kind of cuteness to it.
After suppressing his smile, Bo Chenjing turned back to Sheng Chuyang, his expression now serious.
“I didn’t deliberately set you up. It’s just that Old Master Jiang’s situation was too complicated, but I knew it wouldn’t be a problem for you.”
Though his words were humble, his tone remained as composed as ever.
Feeling praised, Sheng Chuyang proudly lifted her chin. “Of course.”
Her personality was childlike too.
A few kind words were enough to make her happy.
Bo Chenjing narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze growing obscure.
His understanding of vampires came from history books and stories passed down by his predecessors.
In their accounts, vampires were inherently cruel and vicious by nature.
But Bo Chenjing knew well that every race carried inherent biases against others in their nature.
He only believed what he saw with his own eyes.
At the very least, this little vampire before him wasn’t like the ones in the rumors.
She was even willing to help the weak.
“Step aside a bit.” Sheng Chuyang suddenly reached out and gave him a light push.
Bo Chenjing silently took half a step back.
Watching as Sheng Chuyang reached bare-handed into the corpse’s sliced-open abdomen, he frowned and spoke up. “Wait.”
“Why are you so fussy?” Sheng Chuyang shot him a glance.
Bo Chenjing turned and instructed Song Wu, “Gloves.”Song Wu immediately brought over the gloves.
“I’m not wearing these.” It was just digging something out of a corpse’s stomach—why would she need such things?
But Bo Chenjing firmly gripped her hand and forcibly put the gloves on her.
Sheng Chuyang snorted but didn’t take them off again.
She reached into the corpse’s stomach and pulled out a pitch-black object the size of a basketball.
The moment the black object was extracted, the foul stench once again filled the entire room. The corpse’s shell, as if having fulfilled its purpose, instantly turned to ashes.
“Sixth Master, I… ugh… I can’t hold it in anymore. I’m going out to vomit…” Song Wu retched as he ran out.
Beside her, Bo Chenjing remained completely still.
Sheng Chuyang couldn’t help but turn to look at him. “Aren’t you going out to vomit?”
Bo Chenjing’s face was also somewhat pale, his jaw tightly clenched, his voice stiff. “I’m fine.”
Sheng Chuyang paid him no further mind.
The pitch-black object in her hand, now unprotected by the corpse’s shell, began to shed its outer layer slowly.
In the end, only a dense, walnut-sized mass of black mist remained in her palm.
The next moment, she brought the black mist to her lips, tilted her head back, and swallowed it.
Bo Chenjing had no time to stop her. “You…”
Even his usually composed and indifferent face showed a flicker of astonishment.
After swallowing it, Sheng Chuyang patted the Crimson Moon Necklace around her neck through her clothes.
The Crimson Moon Necklace was one with her and would instinctively absorb curses from Demons that shared its origin.
“Done. Jiang Songran’s grandfather can be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.” With the curse source consumed, the curse had lost its effect.
Just then, Sheng Chuyang’s phone rang.
It was Jiang Songran calling.
She could now tell Jiang Songran that the list of enemies was no longer needed, so she answered the call.
“Jiang Songran, you don’t need to give me the list of enemies. The matter has been dealt with. Your grandfather is fine…”
At that moment, Bo Chenjing, standing beside her, suddenly leaned down and whispered softly into her other ear, “Tell him to give you the list of enemies.”
His voice was extremely low, almost a breathy whisper.
The warmth of his breath made her ear itch.
Sheng Chuyang rubbed her ear and shifted slightly away.
“Is someone there with you? Where are you?” On the other end of the line, Jiang Songran faintly heard voices from Sheng Chuyang’s side, but they were too soft to make out clearly.
“Send me the list of enemies,” Sheng Chuyang said before hanging up.
She turned to Bo Chenjing. “What do you need the list for?”
Bo Chenjing looked at the gradually vanishing corpse dust on the floor and spoke slowly. “The DNA of this corpse was destroyed, making it impossible to confirm its identity. I had people investigate Old Master Jiang’s enemies, but no one was reported missing.”
The cruelty of the curse lay in harming both others and oneself.
Most curses required the caster’s soul and life as a price to take effect.
In other words, this corpse was the one who had cursed Old Master Jiang.
How much hatred must they have harbored for that old man to sacrifice their own life for it!
Sheng Chuyang mused thoughtfully. “You mean Old Master Jiang might be hiding something? So you want to check if the list of enemies he gave me matches the one you investigated?”
“Mm,” Bo Chenjing acknowledged.
Then, he looked at Sheng Chuyang with a composed expression. “You call Old Master Jiang ‘that old man’?”
Human lifespans were short.
To humans, Old Master Jiang was an elderly man.But to her, Old Master Jiang was merely a frail human who was thirty years younger than her.
“Mhm.” Sheng Chuyang didn’t see any issue with calling him an old man.
Her confident expression made Bo Chenjing realize something.
So, this little vampire was actually older than Old Master Jiang.
